Going Out Of Town For 3-4 Weeks. Clonazepam Prescription (w/ 1 Refil) Expires 2 Weeks Into My Trip. Early Refill Question (Page 3)
UpdatedHey,
New to the forums. Just registered because this seems like the right place to answer my question.
I am on clonazepam .5mg 4x daily and get a monthly prescription with 1 refill. I filled it on the 14th of this month and I go out of town (currently live in Colorado and am going back to my home town of Baltimore) for 3-4 weeks on the 29th of this month. Also, my prescribing doctor is out of town until the 12th of October.
Anyway, my prescription is filled through walgreens, and I will run out 2 weeks from the day I leave town. I will be out of town anywhere from 3-4 weeks. My flight to Baltimore has been booked however my exact return date has not yet been decided but will be sometimes between 3 weeks and 4. I know that walgreens is nationwide however while in Baltimore I will not have a car and do not want the added stress of the possibility of not being able to get to the pharmacy on the day of my refill and possibly running out, or the potential issue of refilling an out of state refill that could arrise. My stress levels are not the best to begin with which is why I am on clonazepam to begin with, and it is just worrying me about going away without adaquate amount of my meds pending any problems filling while away.
I am wondering if I go into my pharmacy and explain my situation, do you think that I would be able to get a refill or a half refill before I leave on the 29th so that I leave town with enough meds to last me till i return in hand. This would be refilling 2 weeks early, but I only actually need to get 2 weeks of the refill to ensure I have enough which would be half of the prescribed refill. On my bottle it does not say any date in which I have to wait to refill, it only says a date in which I have to use my refill before it expires. I know insurance would not cover this, however it is a generic drug and should not be very expensive. The cost is not a worry to me. Do you think my walgreens will do this for me? I know it may seem to be asking a lot to be 2 weeks early, but given my situation I believe it is reasonable.
Has anyone had any experience with this or could anyone offer their opinion on whether or not this will be allowed to be done?
Thank you,
Steve
Sometimes people really do go out of town. I was in a similar situation, and I'm not a junkie.
I read it twice. I'm missing the part about the second doctor. All I'm reading is his prescribing doctor.
First call should be to the doctor or his office. Pharmacists routinely tell you they can't do anything until about 2-3 days early.
Perhaps, if your doctor is part of a firm, there is another doctor familiar enough with him that he would be willing to help. I was caught in that situation once, and one of the other doctors wrote my prescription.
or start cutting them in half as a last resort. At least you won't start jonesin'
Are there any n.c. pharmacies that don't participate in the csrs (controlled substance reporting system)? Just wondering.
In a word...NO. It is not up to the pharmacist's discretion, for one thing. If your doctor is going to be back before you leave, and you have a good relationship with him, just ask him to up your dosage. If a doctor prescribes the same drug but with an increase in dosage, then the pharmacist must fill it, even if it's a week after you picked up the original prescription. BUT, this can ONLY be done through your doctor.
Yes I've experienced the same problem. With getting. My Meds ahead of time and ended up running out two days before my trip ended.
Gloria,
No such animal exists any longer . All pharmacies are required to report dispensing any controlled schedule narcotic without exception.Your prescriber must make any necessary adjustments to dosage for a pharmacy to fulfill an early Rx.
Angie,
What makes you this holier then thou pompous self entitled pervayer of poisonous words. I would never wish harm on another but your righteous indignation is repulsive. How you can decipher whom is drug seeking as opposed to those desperately dependent on these dangerous to withdraw from narcotics makes you quite the seer huh? This site is to assist not to shame and bully those seeking assistance. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF.
Well for starters if I were the pharmacist I would wonder why anyone going out of town for 3 to 4 weeks is trying to sell me a transportation or lack of issues to refill a benzodiazepine. How were you going to get anything to eat??? Four weeks is a long time not to have some type of plan on getting around. If this person is that worried about running out of their medication they need to talk to their DR about that issue.
No not a benzo unless Dr says OK he is on vacation but they do have emergency stuff on their office phone recordings where you leave a message for a partial bridge refill or u ask Dr to fax a refill to a particular pharmacy in Baltimore there may be one in walking distance of not find closest one get fax #n info have Dr fax it in n take bus or train service or ask a friend or family say u are on antibiotics n u need to pick up a refill because you had sinus infection and it's still bothering you
Best thing to do is to call Walgreens and ask them if a Walgreens out of state will fill it. They'll be able to tell you.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Yikes. I've been through this. Unfortunately they hear this a lot. People make this story up which isn't fair to us being truthful. They will probably post date it and you can fill it where you're going. I know my girlfriend was going out of the US and needed hers filled early. They did it for her. Let us know what happens. Good luck. I know this oh too well
Re: Ridgerunner007 (# 3)
Thanks for that good information. I know that took time, so again, thanks.

Steve, When you get to Baltimore, take an Uber or cab to the nearest Wallgreens and have your prescription transferred there. It can only be transferred once per RX. yo have t be in person and sign to get it anywhere you are, so plan on making the trip. I did it livong in Florida on vacation in D.C. Prewarn your druggist before you go. Also write a request to your doctor's office as well. They may give you a completely new prescription to take with you for the amount you will need. They will date the RX so you can't get a double dose. It depends on your doctor. Hope this helps.
