Going Off Roxicodone (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy husband told me he started taking a pill called Roxi's about about 4 months ago. He has back problems and we have done several outpatient procedures including the injections in the back and prescribed Hydro's. We have separated several times because of this. I don't do any meds for the fear of seeing what it has done to people as far as becoming dependant. He is back now and says he wants his life back before the pill usage. He has almost lost his truck and trust of his family. What are the side effects of going off the drug and what can we do to help?

These are highly addictive and the withdrawal effects can be very dangerous, potentially fatal. He should speak to a doctor for assistance in getting over his addiction safely.
First off the pills are very addictive i fight with my wife sometimes and before i went to the doctor we had all kinds off issues u tend to get aggitaded when u need the next dose so thats y my MD gave me methadone it makes u normal without the high and it's also used as a pain medicine and it's used to help someone get off the pain medicine
I have been taking 15mgs Roxi & it is very important to follow the directions that the Doctor writes & take it only as needed for severe pain. I have been on it for over a year now & have had no problems with them, it is a great med for people with chronic pain as long as you take only what your Dr says, if you start taking an extra 1 here & there you will run short on your meds & yes I have read that the withdrawl is bad, that is why I always have extra, I am very careful & sure as heck do not want to go through any withdrawl. As far as your question about what you can do to help him, I think if maybe you hold on to his bottle & only give him what the dr has said as I am sure the dr will be weaning him off of them you will notice a big change in his attitude- he may have been taking too many & would run out & that would explain why he would argue with you etc. Speak to his dr & see what he or she suggests. I have to say I wish I didn't have to take any meds at all but due to certain medical conditions I have, it is just not an option for me, I can't even take aleve or motrin due to peptic ulcers.I wish you both the very best & pray God will give you both the strength to get through all of this.People do get off of these meds all the time it is also a matter of pain level. You mentioned injections, I know from experience that some of these shots which are a certain form of a steroid also cause some very bad side affects such as moodswings & swelling & increase in appetite. My husband had to get them a few years back & his mood did change something awful as did other things, maybe that could be a factor as you mentioned that you have seperated several times & he has only been on the roxi for 4 months so some problems may have been from the injections. I hope my info was of some help to you both. God bless you both & take care.
anyone can wean themselves of any addictive drug if they simply have the will power, i would suggest if you re really serious of quitting or cutting back you get a pill splitter from any pharmacy an cut tablet in half , see how long you can actually manage , aleve dosage may be helpful as well as dr presripting .5 mgs of xanax
Your family and espically your husband is in a very difficult situation which is hard to overcome. You must be patient because recovery can be a lengthly process. The withdrawal symtoms are so severe that sometimes people contemplate suicide. You should bring him to a therapist and get him prescribed to suboxone which is a good, safe detox medicine. While on the medication he will be able to live his life day by day as a normal person and not having any cravings. Another way to solve this problem is to lean him off of the oxycodone. You hold onto the medication and give it to him 2 or 3 times a day. It varies by person depending on person's tolerance. For example give him 200 mg's for 3 days. Then the next 3 days give him 150 mg, then 3 days after 100mg..... Just repeat this process untill your down to 0. He may still feel uncomfortable for 2-3 days after he has not taken any of his medication, however he will be feeling much better than if he were to go cold turkey. good luck. Remember patience is a virtue.
yes roxi. should be reduced about 25 percent of the dosage every 3 days . however with doctor supervision., and withdrawl effects are different for everyone. but keep in mind getting of the medication is half the battle. staying off is another battle ,
I have been taking this medication for a year and a half. I hate that I have to have it to manage my pain but I do. And if I don't have it.....it is the worst feeling in the world. The worst hangover, ever!!! I do get mad that I have to take it or I can't function as anormal person
