Gluten Contamination Adderall 30mg Teva Gate Pharma
UpdatedI am currently taking Adderall 30mg, name brand, manufactured by Gate which is a subsidiary of Teva. I've been taking it for 15 months. It is round, orange, numbers 3 0 on the front and a symbol that looks somewhat like a % on the back. I have Celiac disease, diagnosed a year ago and despite a strict gluten free diet I still have lingering symptoms. I ran out of Adderall 2 weeks ago and went 6 days without it while waiting for updated insurance approval. I finally was able to fill my prescription 1 week ago, last Thursday. After my 3rd dose I became very sick and assumed I consumed food containing gluten. But I've been unable to find the source of the attack, nothing I ate should have caused it. It's been one week and the attack has not subsided. The only thing I did or ate differently last week, was start back on Adderall. I called Teva and was told "to the best of their knowledge" it does not contain gluten but they could not give me a straight yes or no. To a celiac who suffers from debilitating symptoms, that answer is unacceptable. I'm hoping I can get better information here. Do any of the fillers contain gluten derived or gluten contaminated ingredients? I understand that possible contamination would be minimal however I take this medication 4 times a day, every single day, so exposure to possible contamination is a little more concerning as I'm exposing myself more than (for example) a 1-a-day pill or a short term antibiotic. Any additional information is greatly appreciated.

Hello, Celeste! How are you doing?
Gate is actually just a licensed distributor, the manufactured now is actually Teva for these tablets.
As to the gluten problem, these do contain corn starch, which may be contaminated with gluten, since most is processed in factories that also deal with wheat based products.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you for your response. That informations is very helpful!! I am aware of contamination issues with corn in food and I avoid corn for this very reason but I didn't think of this in context of medications. I stopped taking Adderall today under supervision of my psych doc as the reaction I'm having has become painfully obvious. Literally. So I am looking for a medication with less exposure potential, if thats possible. My doctor mentioned trying name brand Adderall XR or name brand Ritalin. Do you know if either of these have corn starch or other fillers that could have contamination issues? Or is there a website that publishes a list of ingredients for various prescription drugs?
I can't tell you how happy I am to have found his website and I sooo appreciate your help!!
Thanks again!
Celeste
I have researched the inactive ingredients for both Teva's generic and their brand products through their official prescribing information.
Gluten is not listed, and even if there was some sort of prerequisite to gluten
in the drug, I seriously doubt that the amount, even taken as often as you have
stated, would cause you problems. This simply represents my opinion.
Oddly I'm having the same problem with the Gate distributed Teva manufactured product in the 20mg version. I have never had sinus problems since taking Adderall and suddenly I have a very persistent sinus problem. The only thing that has changed is the drug manufacturer for Adderall. This needs to be checked. Teva needs to be responsible to its customers!
Celiac causes me distinctive symptoms: polyneuropathy, partial complex seizures, and a horrible, bleeding rash. Naturally, I am absolutely compliant with the diet. I switched pharmacies and got both Adderall 10 mg. and Carbemazepine 100 mg. filled, made by Teva. Although the pharmacist swore the pills were gluten-free, the symptoms were unmistakable. After three weeks, I quit taking the pills and was improving in two days. Ironic that meds for seizures and ADHD are causing seizures and ADHD.
I, too, think Adderall by this manufacturer contains gluten. Regardless of what they say or print, my body and brain tell me different. No more Adderall for me and my family!
I take brand name by gate and it gives me gluten symptoms pretty badly, but started taking the generic and i can't focus as well on them, but i get no gluten symptoms. i wish there was an alternative to the brand name that doesn't make us with celiacs sick.
