Getting Off Of Methadone (Page 4)

There are two of us males, early thirties. One of us underwent major back surgery three years ago and has been addicted to pain medication for a total of five years. I have been addicted for about three years just from simply being his main caretaker and dipping into the cookie jar a few to many times like an idiot. We went back to our general doctor (same guy) and explained that we are both full fledged addicts. We told him we have been obtaining Methadone off the street as is seems to be the only thing that works. He asked us what we where getting off the street and we told him Methadone. His response was, "Well that's the smartest thing you have done so far, because of its extremely long effect on the body". We told him we need his help, that we just have no money left and our livers are just a mess and we can't move on with life. He decided to put us both on 100 mgs of Methadone to keep us comfortable until he could make some contacts with the proper addiction specialists that he new. We went for an appointment to his office once every week. We made various contact to different areas, inpatient/outpatient programs, who would not even touch us because we were at too high of a dosage of Methadone. They told us they only work with Suboxone which means we would need to be down to around 20 mgs of Methadone to make the transition to Suboxone. What a nightmare. The doctor also did not have any luck with programs because they where either the scum of the earth clinics, not to mention everyone's famous new drug Suboxone that could be treated in the privacy of a doctors office. About 3 months ago our doctor fell, he herniated a disc or something, all of a sudden was going to be out of the office indefinitely! He never referred us over to another doctor or anything. He just simply CUT US OFF the most potent and dangerous drug out there. Now we are back a square one and no one will touch us because our dosage is too high and there really is nothing they could do. If we could just get us a general doctor to write for pain to get us down to 45 - 50mg, then all these options could open up. A detox would be my first choice, but there is no way in hell we can both come off 100 mgs of Methadone that fast. Anyone know a general doctor in the state of MA that can write for Methadone for pain. That would just help us greatly, but I'm starting to think that there is no hope for us, but I know I cant think like that. Desperate in MA here.

I am detoxing off 58 mg's of Methadone I am on 90 mg of oxycodone and 60 mg's of Morphine sulfate and 2 mg of klonopin a day. My doctor suggested I take 2 mgs of klonopin 30 mg of Oxycodone with my Methadone. Every 14 days I am going down 5 mg of Methodone. I want off this stuff. All of it. Yes I had a very serious suicide attempt and jumped in front of a truck and broke multiple bones. Compounded them I am in therapy now doing fine. These drugs are not the answer ANYONE got advice?

I am also detoxing off methadone. I've gone down from 100mg's to 40mg's at a rate of 20 mg's a week. I also take 3mg's of xanax a day. Dropping your methadone dose is easier to do than 5 mg's at a time. After I get down to 10mg's a day I switch to norco, 2 pills every 4 to 6 hours and it's a comfortable decline once you switch to norco and taper off. Done it before and tired of the ball and chain, like you must be. Good luck. Hit me up if you have any questions. Mike.

A mixture of methadone and xanax at high levels at first will surely help. Regular doses of methadone are 80mg's to 120mg's. That plus 2 xanax you will surely feel. I have a tolerence like a horse also and this is how I started. Decrease from methadone to norcos 10/325's and taper the xanax with clonodine. Then the ball's in your court.

Methadone is awful. You would be better off tapering if you are determined to quit. With a physician's supervision, clonidine can help with blood pressure, restless legs, insomnia. I wouldn't advocate suboxon to replace methadone, accounts from others have said it is even more difficult to kick and its just replacing one evil with another.

Man I can not for the life of me get my doc to give me Xanex. Where are u from Mike? My name is Joey I'm from SF USA. My girl friend use to get it but her doc is gone. My detox off methadone is laying heavy on me. I got so nauseated I lost vision briefly. That is dropping 8 mg and taking two mg of Kolonopin thirty mg of Oxycodine. Still real sick. I'm at 50 mg of methadone was 100. Man will this ever end.........

I'm from Long Beach Ca. I feel for you bro, only addicts can understand. Try to get your doctor to give you atavan 2mg 3x a day, and use those in combination with your klonopins. I cut my methadone dose from 85 to 40 in a week. Is your sleep time all out of whack? How long have you been w/o xanax? I still get my 85mg take homes and decrease my dose. Are you in a program? If so, tell them your dose is too low and detox yourself down. Don't hesitate to hit me up. Trying xanax is an option if you can afford it. God knows you live S.F. right?

Sleep what does that mean in English?
Is it a word? I'm sorry I vaguely remember the concept. I see my doc soon. She gave me 90 mg of OxyContin 60 mg of morphine sulphate and two mg of pins to help. I still stay sick. I am at fifty and dropping. As I get 13 take homes I drop ten at a time every 14th day. Xanax would be a luxury. Take care Joey

Your doing great bro. I'm in the same position as you. I've slept 10min. in the last 3 days. I play guitar to pass the useless days of detoxing. I get two week take homes too, but cut down myself so I'm not miserable in the process. I know you feel me. I get hooked up from my friend with the xanax. He owns a dispensary and his Dr. is our highschool personal friend. The only thing that makes me feel comfortable is benzos with my methadone. We both know you could slam a gram of dope and not feel any effects if your dosing regularly . How long have you been on methadone?

Been on methadone 7 yrs at 300 millagrams started comeing down on my own and got down to 100 mill doing 10 mill a week i was good then i couldn't afford it anymore and the clinic kicks mr off and brings me down 35 mill a week I'm on 20 mill right now and going through withdraws nothing helps they never tell u how hard it is to come off they just want your money i will never get on this shi- again if i can make it through this detox nor would i recomend it to anyone i know this has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do there's better options than methadone best of luck to everyone including myself.

It is difficult to come off of methadone, I know first hand.. But when you finally kick it, it is soooo worth it!! The roller coaster you ride on methadone absolutely sucks. I was on methadone for 2 yrs, but prior to that I was on all sorts of different narcotics for 8 yrs. Today I am clean (off of everything), I maybe take advil every now and then. Are you taking anything to help with the withdrawals other than just tapering? I was given clonidine and skelaxin while I was in rehab. Both took the edge off enough to tolerate the withdrawals. You might want to try some group therapy during this time to keep yourself distracted and in the mean time get some helpful information to get you through this. Good luck.

Man I wish to all heck I was near Long beach as I tried to get my Doctor to give xanax she just will not do it.
Just a few Say 20 I think this kick would get allot easier with that crutch. That is what she calls it more or less. I do not care what anyone calls it . It just makes sense.

Hi Rachael not sure if you got in the help yet. I don't know what it is like to be an addict but I do have a brother that is addicted to methadone. See him go thru this is hard. I try to help always by telling him he can do it so can you. Fighting is what you need to do . You will end up dieng young cause that's what it does it kills you slowly. Good luck

Just the fact that you found this site means you're in the right state of mind. I've never been past 100mg so 300mg's must be frickin' nuts! Just imagine if you were incarcerated having to kick a 100mg habit a day. Thinking of that keeps me on the right path! I'll be on 20mg's for a bit, then go to ten.
