Getting Off Of Methadone (Page 3)

There are two of us males, early thirties. One of us underwent major back surgery three years ago and has been addicted to pain medication for a total of five years. I have been addicted for about three years just from simply being his main caretaker and dipping into the cookie jar a few to many times like an idiot. We went back to our general doctor (same guy) and explained that we are both full fledged addicts. We told him we have been obtaining Methadone off the street as is seems to be the only thing that works. He asked us what we where getting off the street and we told him Methadone. His response was, "Well that's the smartest thing you have done so far, because of its extremely long effect on the body". We told him we need his help, that we just have no money left and our livers are just a mess and we can't move on with life. He decided to put us both on 100 mgs of Methadone to keep us comfortable until he could make some contacts with the proper addiction specialists that he new. We went for an appointment to his office once every week. We made various contact to different areas, inpatient/outpatient programs, who would not even touch us because we were at too high of a dosage of Methadone. They told us they only work with Suboxone which means we would need to be down to around 20 mgs of Methadone to make the transition to Suboxone. What a nightmare. The doctor also did not have any luck with programs because they where either the scum of the earth clinics, not to mention everyone's famous new drug Suboxone that could be treated in the privacy of a doctors office. About 3 months ago our doctor fell, he herniated a disc or something, all of a sudden was going to be out of the office indefinitely! He never referred us over to another doctor or anything. He just simply CUT US OFF the most potent and dangerous drug out there. Now we are back a square one and no one will touch us because our dosage is too high and there really is nothing they could do. If we could just get us a general doctor to write for pain to get us down to 45 - 50mg, then all these options could open up. A detox would be my first choice, but there is no way in hell we can both come off 100 mgs of Methadone that fast. Anyone know a general doctor in the state of MA that can write for Methadone for pain. That would just help us greatly, but I'm starting to think that there is no hope for us, but I know I cant think like that. Desperate in MA here.

I just like to know where this person that posted about Rapid detox for $11,000 could tell where it was, the name and how bad or good detoxing was,etc.

ive been on methadone for five years at the clinic i was at 75 mil.. they didnt want me wean down i got in a fight with them and after many arguments they let me.. i have two addicted children to heroine and pain pills i was trying so hard to get them clean well i have now been using.. i see a dr now who gives me 40 mil of methadone a day. i have cut myself down to ten but i want on.. i freak out and cant function and panic if i dont take it.. i cant move or work or go to classes i am taking.. i need help. i need to reunite with god but i hace isolated myself from everyone. i dont know what to do.. no money no insurance .. i want to live to feel alive to not feel like i dont care what happens to me because im a bad person.. i only have a phone with internet so not sure i can even get back to this site. {edited for privacy}.. plzzzz help

Methadone saved my childs life. i had been doing 300mgs of oxycotin for two yrs. we had just finish building our first home when we were introduced to it. after a yr i couldnt work anymore. andsix month.later tried to quit oourselves. until i found out i pregnate.. (please dont judge i had had 4 misscarages when i was sober so i was going to do anything humanly possible to save this child) anyway in australia threw the hospital system is s twelve month wait to get on the program but i had heard of this private doctor hrlping ppl but you had to wait a month to get an apointment
the next day i went to the dictors office surgery. i barged into his office while he had another patient go diwn on my hands and knees in front of him and begged him to help me... he asked the other petson to leave.d work and dosed me that day...
his wife also owns the chemust i dose at.
i had a horrible pregnancy. lost twenty kilos in a month. i could eat or drink i didnt urinate for two weeks cause nothing past my stomache. so i was allowed to have a takeaway everyday. and my body would not let me swollow it but if i would inject two mks of it my body would settle down and i usually could swollow the rest i did this till u was six months pregnate and then i forsed myself to swollow it. and if i threw it up my partner gave me his.
three.months later i had my beautiful baby. she was seven and a half pound. feed great and had no side affects or withdrawral at all. and i watched her like a hawk day and night to see if she was suffering.
the midwife told me that she could tell if the mothers were following the program properly because if they wernt the babies would hangout horribly.
We left after five days and have never looked back
my daughter is a year and a half old now and is such a clever healthy child. has never been sick but now me and my hubby are ready to get our lives back
i lost my brother three months ago he O.D off a morphine patch.. thats the new fad here cause its so strong and cheap. he knew better i had put him under the shower when i used with him. but hed just dine a years jail and four months on a farm and he found it in the shed when he came home to visit and the rest is history
so i need to know wat they do in australia.. do they still knock you out?

I was put on methadone the same time my brother was put on syboxone film
two months ago we lost our other brother to injecting a morphine patch
now since he died ive been on the speed i have at least four shots a day of wat ever and my brother (who is definatly the bigger yser and the weaker minded) hasnt relapsed once. he says that as soon as he has his saboxone he feels on top of the world. when i have my dome i feel like s***.

So in aus they have a brand of oxycotin that has naltraxone in it. but they dont administer it.
if the australian government made it mandatory to have oxycotin and morphine patches with naltraxone. when used properly it has no effect.
but when shot up sends you into rapid detox.
if they had actually went throught with it maybe my brother would still be here ...
why isnt anything being done? Do they like buring young ppl???

I am coming down off of methadone I have taken it for about 1 year after a few years addicted to opiates. The main thing to keep in your mind is this, there is always hope please believe there is no thing you can not fight back on with God directing your way. Have hope, I thought there was none but I am now almost on the other side here to tell you there is hope. Jesus is waiting for you to reach out for his hand and he will carry you home. Put him fist and methadone has nothing on him. My heart beats to help people like you find hope know it and although I have gone down slow 5 mg every couple of weeks it has been just scary but not impossible, it's mostly a mind trip, it feels better to know at the end of this I will not be searching for the next high, but I have the highest of the high lord our god in my heart. Hey I know this post is old but im going to take a shot and see if you respond. Im almost 27 and I have also been on Methadone since I've been 20 just like your self. I was on 90mg up until the last few months which I have got myself down to 35mg. I'm trying to do a detox like you did for 10 days but all around here is 5 days of methadone and you have to be at 25MG and they bring you down 5 a day for the 5 days your there. That sounds pretty crazy to me. Im just wondering where you went and how do you feel from it. I have never really had pain in my life until now. The past 3 months or so since I tapered my bones well like hell.

Jones33, I happened to come across your post 4 yrs later. I'm curious, how are you and your friend doing? Sounds like you two were seriously trying to get help and there were no options. Funny how they are so quick to prescribe potent narcotics but turn you away when you are in real need of their help. I'm a recovering Methadone addict. I was actively addicted to prescription medications for nearly 10 yrs. In my last year I was addicted to Methadone and taking close to 120 mg a day. I am completely clean today and can offer some suggestions if you two are still in need of some help. I hope that after 4 yrs that isn't the case. Wow..sorry about ur luck rt now. I also am on methadone, been going to a private clinic for 2 years, wow, here in Michigan 100 mg isn't considered that high of a dose, I am currently taking 224 mg a day, no s***, honest to goodness truth, however, I had a MONSTER opiate/ heroin intravenous addiction. Suboxone never worked for me...I would have to eat 3-4 8mg tabs a day just to attempt to stay comftorable. Clinics out here take Medicaid, the clinics work with you if ur desperate and broke, grants can be written and you can pay as little as $3 day. They don't have anything like that out there? There's hope guys, don't give up, I am about to try and start the long road of trying to come down, however. I have 2 ruptured disc and sciatica for years, I'm scared to death to

Get a hold of AFM talk to a doc there they will set u up for a assesment. I been on meth for 3 years. worked my self up to 80mg.. last 4 months dropped to 44mg starting to come down by my choise as fast as i want.. i pick what to come down by if i even want to come down. Its all about how u feel... Its called the M.I.N.E program. Methadone intake needle exchange program....plz look into it..it saved my self..been addicited too oxycontin,hydromorphine , and so on...for 5 1/2 years... Rolled my car broke my neck then had to come clean to my doc. they got a hold of afm and i started my journey. Good luck man

three years later are you off it,, I too cut down fromn 80 to 7mg as of today but it is too hard now,, was good till got top 12mg but wanna get off so I keep going downtproblem is I am getting it off the street now to get me through work, but am not using anything else--- not sure if im gonna be able to finish this off although life is awesome now

I would like you to know I was a h addict for 6 years. Got on methadone and was at 110 for 3 years. Went down to 1mg after a year. At 25mg I went down one a week. At 8 I started feeling crappy kept going down and at 5mg the next week went down 3mg then the next week went to 1mg and after a week stopped taking it. I had three takeout s just in case I couldn't handle it. But I'm 6 days into it and other than restless legs and just having no energy I'm fine. Believe me I went threw 4 h detox and was using iv. After 5 you feel crappy at night that's why I went a little faster at the end. I haven't touched one of my takeout s and never even thought of it. It is possible! My husband got off going really fast a year ago and is still clean. I'm dumping my takeout. I never thought I could do this. I heard everyone tell me its impossible. I've dealt with this addiction for 8 years and m is a great drug cause it gets you away from that scene. You can do it guys! Seriously don't believe what you hear.

I don't mean to be rude however going from oc's to Vicodin is not a cold turkey detox. Ur body is stil receiving an opiate to regulate ur withdrawals. I was on OC's VERY badly and understand Decreasing to Vicodin is definitely a better things however ur still using something to feel "normal". I've detoxed cold turkey from a 320mg a day habit and a Vicodin would have made a WORLD of differance. I'm NOT knocking ur way! If I had that option I'd be right there with u!! More power to u and GOOD LUCK!!!

Make sure that if you choose to go the Suboxen route that you are in full kick of methadone, at least 72 hours. Or else you will go through the worst part of the kick.

Hi there folks. It seems as though some of you know what you're talking about so I'm going to try this site. My problem is burnout (tolerance). I was doing OK until last year when I had to take antibiotics for 4 months. They nearly killed me and for some wild-ass reason left me with an insane tolerance; in fact, it's beyond tolerance. Nothing works no matter the dosage strength. I don't mean some little bit of doseage, I'm talking taking 800 mgs. (8 -100 mg. tablets) of MS Contin and getting nothing but a tight head, sort of like too much caffeine. I can take 180 mgs. of methadone, liquid or pill, and get the same result. 225 microgms. of Duragesic, nothing. 80 mgs. of Dilaudid, nothing. Oxy, Hydro, Opana, etc., etc., etc. nothing (except the tight head- btw, it is not horribly tight, but definitely unpleasant). Benzodiazapine, 120 mgs., nothing. I don't take these meds for sport; I've had a wild life and ended up getting busted up (and cut up real bad by surgeons who were too busy to do things correctly). I will not reconcile myself to a life of pain. Does anyone have any HARD data about opioid potentiators? Only SC works and the docs are scared to put a pump in me (I'm not scared, they are) due to a previous infection in an artificial joint. I can't go around with a needle in me (or so they say). I would go to another country where opium is legal but I'm too busted up these days. One thing about America; it's about the best place to be a cripple, as far as I know. Lastly, I don't misuse medications. As I stated previously, I ain't in it for the fun of it. Thanks for any help; this crap is a bit much. PS- if anyone has a suggestion that works I'll do my best to pay them.

If you have high enough traces of methadone in your system you won't feel much of any pain killer. You'll feel the benzos'. I have Chron's disease and I've been through more surgeries than I care to remember. How long have you been out of the hospital from your last visit, when you were getting IV pain meds?

@Wonker You seem like you are in quite of a dilemma. Tolerance is created when your body starts to reject the drug after a period of use. Are you currently on 800 mg of MS Contin as of right now? If so, you might want to start tapering down and when you reach "at least" 400 mg, then switch over to another narcotic pain reliever. Also, make sure to keep yourself educated on these potent narcotic pain relievers so it doesn't come back to haunt you in the future. Good Luck.

All that stuff is addictive that's why I don't understand why alcohol is legal when it is the only drug that withdrawals will phisically kill you. As far as methadone goes that's one of the strongest drugs out there and even harder to get off of there are people that go for years just trying to get off of it. Me being one of them but I am almost there. It sounds like he feel asleep because a mixture of all the stuff combined and sounds like a rough road ahead if you choose to stay with him. Just because all the things you listed. But good luck and make the right choich for your children if any. Because they are the ones who suffer most and will likly repeat the process when they get older.

Hey there i just got on methadone a couple weeks ago, I was addicted to herion for years and I take 70 mgs rite now every morning, I have seen alot of mixed thoughts about methadone and I saw your post and was curious how it ended up for you cause in this post u said u had gone from like 80 to 40 moving down 5 mgs at a time and that was a couple years ago when u posted this so I was wondering did u ever get fully off? If so how was it when u finally stopped taking ur last 5 mg doses weening down? Just want to kno cause there is mixed opinions and I don't want to keep takin it if its impossible to get off

I can just speak to methadone because of your tolerance. If you took 180 mgs, I'm on 160, you'd need 60 mgs of morphine for every 10 of methadone so that's 1800 of morphine to feel the effects
