Getting Fat As A Cow On Thyroxine

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 5 years ago. I started taking Synthroid and lost 40 pounds within about a year (I was actually almost underweight - joy of joys, right?) Slowly, I gained weight, and couldn't diet or exercise it off. I was sick and hardly ate for 5 days and didn't lose an ounce. But, my weight still wasn't terribly.

Flash forward to 3 months ago when my doctor upped my dosage. Within the past two months, I've gained 12 pounds - 5 of those pounds were gained between last night and this morning. I ate normally, so what gives? I'm putting on weight at an alarming weight and nothing seems to help. Any ideas out there? For now, I'm going back to my old dosage.

Hello, Rose! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about your weight issue.

However, it is very common for people with thyroid problems taking such medications to suffer these types of problems and, unfortunately, most never manage to lose the weight and keep it off.

Learn more Thyroxine details here.

Have you consulted your doctor? They may have some other ideas to help.

And a sudden overnight weight gain of 3 to 5 pounds could signify a serious medical condition, so that's something you need to discuss with your doctor, anyway.
