Getting Prescriptions From 2 Different Doctors For Pain Meds But There Are Conditions (Page 26) (Top voted first)

Updated

Well I just really need to know if what I am doing is considered doctor shopping. I fell at at department store and injured my knee. Now I have to go to the doctor the lawyer sent me to. He prescribes pain meds for me but the only thing he can treat is my knee. I started having back problems. My primary care doctor sent me to a different doctor and he also gives me meds. But the pharmacy said they would call the doctors and tell on me. So I went and ahead and told the doctors myself so that it would not look as bad. What do you think will happen to me? The pharmacy refused to give me back my prescription. Can they do that?

Not at all, unless you signed a contract with a pain management physician doctors can prescribe you whatever they see fit. If your having the medications filled at different pharmacys than you having taken it to another level to trying to deceive the medicine community. Hopefully no one does there paper work and you won't get caught. Now if you did give them the same pharmacy. The dr office is 100% supposed to pull your chart of medications currently perscribed to you. So they probably did that and saw your medication list and didn't see a problem prescribing more

Yes this is considered Dr. shopping and yes the pharmacy can take the prescription and keep it. It is always better to tell each Dr. your dilemma/pain meds. I have been doing this for 18 long years. On another note, I recently started Medical Marijuana in Florida. After 18 years of opioids what a difference. The insurance companies as of now will not cover it, so it is cash. But I am finally getting my life back as far as quality. If you are looking for a high you will be disappointed. Taking time to get off of the opioids was worth it and my pain is minimal.

Hi~
I refuse to help anyone break the law Doctor shopping is a felony. You will go to jail. Grow up and stop it. Like I said I will not help you break the law ... I'm so done. Grow up people. Wake up and smell the coffee.

HI TRAY, YOU NEED TO READ THIS... If you are seeing more than one doctor for narcotic pain medications (opiates) That is considered doctor shopping..HOWEVER... If you have a pain doctor and you have surgery you can take anything the hospital gives you as long as you are treated by them and take your pain meds from your pain med doctor too. Also, you can get valium or ambien as I have been doing from my primary care doctor and morphine from my pain doctor and you are within legal boundaries. If you are doctor shopping stop now. They cannot bust you unless they catch you in the act. And all of the pharmacies are networked together so each of them know what you are being prescribed. So if they are filling both opiate narcotics, call yourself lucky. There are some mom and pop shops that aren't networked but if you are shopping, better make sure mom and pop aren't connected. Good luck with your knee and back.

no, obviously that's not right IF that is how it happened. but i never hewrd of a Dr. canceling a script who didn't write it! just go to diff pharmacy or back to the Dr. who wrote it. . . . do you have pain meds from any Dr.?!? if yes thats why pharm won't do it.

Sure but I dont *really* know if the dr. made a mistake or not. All I know is that I have 2 prescriptions. Why am I responsible for second-guessing the doctor's intentions ?

Alessio, the point is that the drs don't want to deal with a patient who gets rxs like that. They can see the dates you got pain rx for as well as the name of the med.strength, number of tablets, directions, drs name, etc. But the things is that you didn't tell each of your drs about the others. Frankly it does look suspicious. If it really matters to you, you can get a copy of your medical records and the pharmacy records and go to the drs and show them that you got the rxs for surgery. Although I doubt that will make any difference to them. For someone in that much pain, you certainly are able to move around a lot.

Dilemma, so my mom had a major spinal surgery recently, she had her total knee replacement surgery postponed for this so the neurosurgeons only supply pain meds for 3 months at which time we are to procure either a pm doc or refer to our pcp. On july 9th we were given our last script from the neurosurgeon and held on to it. on august 14th we procured an PM doc and he started prescribing pain meds. i was worried and didnt understand how it worked so i asked the pharmacy and insurance if i could still have the july 9th script filled just in case moms pain was still out of control, they had no problems with it , different pain meds, but then we get a letter from pm doc saying they are dropping my mom for this. i want to go talk to him or his pa to explain the mistake, i have a copy of the script showing the date it was written and a letter for neurosurgeon stating that was last prescript he will write. my moms medical history and narcotics database are clean so cant they see this was an honest mistake? we never signed a contract but there are no pms near us and i feel mislead. do i have fighting chance of convincing them to take my mom back

Victor feel free to ask Administration if I am who I state however, with someone as dangerous as you I am not releasing anything further. I did this voluntarily due to the aggression several individuals who clearly are here for the wrong reasons getting "testy" when Dr. J. and I told them where they were coming from.

There is nothing more to be said to you other then get help and leave your mother's medications alone!!

Every pain patient here suffers when someone abuses the right of a pain patient given medication for chronic pain.

And your medical credentials are exactly WHAT and obtained exactly WHERE? Ditto for your LICENSE(S). If I'm hesitant about making a decision for a patient it's because I know all about the drug, the benefit to risk ratio, the interaction and adverse effect profile. That's why I went to medical school and continued on and earned PhD in Pharmacology. I'm an animal lover, too, but it's my MD, my License to Practice, a Sate CSR and my Fed. DEA Registration No, that gives me the right to make professional therapeutic decisions. Yours was thoughtless and senseless. There's a lot more to controlling interactions than the simplicity with which you responded. That's irresponsible and dangerous.

I don't agree. Your family doctor is not qualified to treat broken bones or fractures, much less do surgery.

So, have a question that I've been DYING to ask for a few days now....

What is a "professional" nurse ? As opposed to an "unprofessional" nurse?

I don't get it. Aren't we ALL "professional"? Did I miss that part in Nursing school? I' m confused.

Listen.....first of all you never got the medication. Also I don't know a judge that would agree to jail time for a first offense even if you plead quilty. You would plea out. That is worse case scenario. Don't worry or lose sleep over your situation. It was a mistake and yes ignorance is not excuse but it's not a conviction either

A prescription expires after 21 days. So, if you wait beyond the 21 days, by law it cannot be filled.

Dr. J I crashed again I think 12 step works yes they must inundate in group therapy and where else can you go for $1 in the bucket a meeting and get group therapy. That came from my now deceased pain specialist of 10 years who was a very excellent psychiatrist (remember I told you as a young budding psychiatrist he got to assess and do forensics evaluation on Charles Manson) and in speaking to him I had one guy I went back and forth with in Louisiana for ten years definitely ETOH but as we both know...They call themselves productive ETOH and addicts till they are steeped in it up to the craw and shaking near death DT seizures I saw plenty at the Richmond, VA in Virginia 600 beds and as a soon to be BS in Nursing did lots of my initial research there on the worst refractory schizophrenics in the nation. Remember when the VA sanctioned certain hospitals for certain specialty well many attorneys used my work on autonomy and Schizophrenia "restraint of the individual" because I did not believe in court ordered depot neuroleptics.

Why well EPS and TD and seeing for example some young Schizophrenic properly diagnosed (as you know in America we tend to wait until they hit their 20's due to culture and non acceptance whereas in Europe it is done earlier for the truth is positive symptoms that are the worst are auditories not a few visuals).

People will wonder what we are talking about here well you are correct. Protect your medication. My day was OFF I had to take a rest but if I do not see a physician soon and the comp idiots believe by Appeal they will hold me off and stop me totally for 6 months I have held off on medication (still on my normal treatment plan but so greatly reduced I will die soon I am housebound now). I went ahead and made a Motion to Remove the Appeal on their side (assistant Attorney General) because if you count within 30 days it is inclusive of the Opinion which the Deputy Commissioner awarded on the day of (inclusive) and asking that my Review for total mileage be however, so determined and immediate physician chosen (by me since the 30 days was way over).

I'm beat to hell Joey I had to travel the past 5 years which is why SSA is nailing me and only some yokel local (like that reversal) because I did a DON gig for a month which paid likely 5 round trips out there and you know over 5 years to California what my mileage is and was. Further they owe me 10 years still for Houston and I plan to tell the SSA that my award for comp is specific (since they disabled me based on the work injury you see) meaning the treating physician approved and had to go to court to win him when my Houston doctor died, must be seen and they DID NOT DO THEIR PART as WC rule in every state differs; mileage has never been paid me.

They have also tried to take my life recently. That we will speak of on our private end ok.

No pain patient should be receiving opioids and have someone hold their hand. Example is one situation where I was called in as a professional witness for my own physician. A man I referred in whose wife held his medications and controlled his every pill made a huge error. The patient asked for stronger medication and was so sedated that his wife woke him up (when the pill was due again) and forced it down his throat. He ended up dead. No more details.

Interesting when the DA did some more history when she was in her early 20's her first husband died this way too. BWS it seems.

Your mother unless totally incompetent and then she needs nursing care should be empowered and make her own decisions. Chronic pain is forever she will need her medications for life no doubt and she can do this on her own. In this environment in America one doctor should write her medications.
