Getting Prescriptions From 2 Different Doctors For Pain Meds But There Are Conditions (Page 11)

Updated

Well I just really need to know if what I am doing is considered doctor shopping. I fell at at department store and injured my knee. Now I have to go to the doctor the lawyer sent me to. He prescribes pain meds for me but the only thing he can treat is my knee. I started having back problems. My primary care doctor sent me to a different doctor and he also gives me meds. But the pharmacy said they would call the doctors and tell on me. So I went and ahead and told the doctors myself so that it would not look as bad. What do you think will happen to me? The pharmacy refused to give me back my prescription. Can they do that?

Over the past two weeks, I've had a recurrence of the most severe pain since my surgery. DDX (as of right now, but I don't have very much confidence in this doc; he thinks he's all that and a bag of chips; that's dangerous). My working DDx is 722.52 - Deg, Disc Lumbar and 715.38 Osteoarthritis Vertebral Column. He prescribed very Percocet 7.5/325 #30 on 09/11 three calls went unanswered. I used my professional prerogative and got him through service at b7 a.m. because I had THREE calls unreturned by ANYONE. He said, "Did I do surgery on you?" "No,but I'll let that go. Patients are people to you guys. I've been a shrink long enough know that. I told him that the High Holy Days do NOT run 24/7 and neither did the Pope's visit to the NYC area. He confused me with someone else and said I needed a Pain Management Specialist and I responded, "I don't know whom you think you're talking to, but you're in the middle of doing workup. It's your responsibility to provide pain meds PRN until you decide on a treatment plan and I decided if I deem it appropriate. He was in his car and said he'll call me right after his office hours. I called to follow up and on of his NPs said, "I don't know what you say, Dr. Joey, but it;s about time somebody put that old bastard in his place." My brother Jack is ending HIS PA down to het the box with all my original creds. I kill the disk that held the scans through an extraordinary confluence of events. I learned I can change the name of my license as long as I'm not fleeing a revocation. I always hated the name Anthony. If I do need a Pain Mgmt specialists, I'll look for both of us, I know your pain is more severe and your circumstances are different, but I think an old friend just might be able to help us both. My sister defended him before the Office of professional Conduct, but that was about borderline insurance fraud. I know his scripts are being watched. He'll tell me if it's safe to be his patient. Bill's brilliant. I have to let the Admin people know that I'll be able to rescan all my creds in a couple of weeks.

I've treated kids who started opiates tasking their prancer grandparents high-potency opiates/opoids. They've all pretty much told me (as one kid, whom I happened to like because he was so honest) said, 'Dude, the s*** was right there My Granda had plenty. He was so think and I do you guys prescribe by weight?" [Pain killers? Sometimes we do]. He was down to 90 pounds and it didn't take much Fentanyl or Dilaudid to keep him outta pain. I'm not one of those animal addicts, man. I'd never leave my grandpa in pain to party with his meds. But there was so much there and I lie the feeling. pure opiate buzz...," but the scripts stopped when he passed and I had what I once read about an an "oil-burner of a habit." I'm a smart kid. How did I f*** myself up like this, Doc? And, more importantly, can you help. I can't become a 12-Step Zombie (I wouldn't let you. I don't treat patients in 12-step groups because they're too close to Cults for comfort and riddled with scandal themselves.) First, detox. No objections? "No, if you're around. I heard those pseudo doctors can be real pricks." I need to chat with you probably for a few hours to check out possible Mood Disorders — and I have a few, so you see nobody dies or goes nuts...well, not TOO nuts anyway that might be hiding behind the drug abuse. That was the case with me, only it took 20 years for the Mood Disorder Then after deciding what you;re cool with my disclosing to another therapist about a tx plan

"Doc? Can you promise me mo methadone except for detox and none of that subwhatthe f*** agonist/antagonist crap. I don't want that.

I can promise you we won't use it, but no arguments about detox meds, OK. I'll order them myself.

Problem is where to send this motivated kids that the 12Step cults haven't infiltrated I thought of a college bud who was the most intelligent and HIGHEST kid I ever knew in college. He has a tx center, but he went from a 12-Stepper to an AA/NA Nazi. He's brilliant and a great Internist, I"m sure, but I wouldn't turn a 19 y/o kid over to him. Any suggestions besides in-patient rehabs where the docs have SOME say SOMETIMES in the Tx?

P450, you aren't an Administrator or Moderator on MedsChat. You have no more authority on this site than others members. The degrees you say you have give you no more authority at MedsChat that others. There is no reason for MedsChat to verify your credentials because you have no site responsibility here. There is a libality issue that MedsChat must consider.

There are many members here with degrees, knowledge and experience from working in certain fields that they use to help others. But they don't wear them like a badge. They realize that on a public internet forum it is up to each reader the weight they give replies. There is important information that is missing in a setting like this that can have an impact on correct answers. But that information isn't appropriate for a public internet forum.

I as well as others here prefer to spend our time trying to help other instead of trying to convince others how smart we are by constantly talking about ourselves and our accomplishments.

Dr. J I crashed again I think 12 step works yes they must inundate in group therapy and where else can you go for $1 in the bucket a meeting and get group therapy. That came from my now deceased pain specialist of 10 years who was a very excellent psychiatrist (remember I told you as a young budding psychiatrist he got to assess and do forensics evaluation on Charles Manson) and in speaking to him I had one guy I went back and forth with in Louisiana for ten years definitely ETOH but as we both know...They call themselves productive ETOH and addicts till they are steeped in it up to the craw and shaking near death DT seizures I saw plenty at the Richmond, VA in Virginia 600 beds and as a soon to be BS in Nursing did lots of my initial research there on the worst refractory schizophrenics in the nation. Remember when the VA sanctioned certain hospitals for certain specialty well many attorneys used my work on autonomy and Schizophrenia "restraint of the individual" because I did not believe in court ordered depot neuroleptics.

Why well EPS and TD and seeing for example some young Schizophrenic properly diagnosed (as you know in America we tend to wait until they hit their 20's due to culture and non acceptance whereas in Europe it is done earlier for the truth is positive symptoms that are the worst are auditories not a few visuals).

People will wonder what we are talking about here well you are correct. Protect your medication. My day was OFF I had to take a rest but if I do not see a physician soon and the comp idiots believe by Appeal they will hold me off and stop me totally for 6 months I have held off on medication (still on my normal treatment plan but so greatly reduced I will die soon I am housebound now). I went ahead and made a Motion to Remove the Appeal on their side (assistant Attorney General) because if you count within 30 days it is inclusive of the Opinion which the Deputy Commissioner awarded on the day of (inclusive) and asking that my Review for total mileage be however, so determined and immediate physician chosen (by me since the 30 days was way over).

I'm beat to hell Joey I had to travel the past 5 years which is why SSA is nailing me and only some yokel local (like that reversal) because I did a DON gig for a month which paid likely 5 round trips out there and you know over 5 years to California what my mileage is and was. Further they owe me 10 years still for Houston and I plan to tell the SSA that my award for comp is specific (since they disabled me based on the work injury you see) meaning the treating physician approved and had to go to court to win him when my Houston doctor died, must be seen and they DID NOT DO THEIR PART as WC rule in every state differs; mileage has never been paid me.

They have also tried to take my life recently. That we will speak of on our private end ok.

Thanks Administration you are doing a great service to the people I've helped thus far they won't post for I've referred them to physicians and those on medication rarely hang around long enough to continue posting when relief is near. They attempt to get their lives back. You do have a few either blasting or doing the same thing as I do give support.

But in kind if sending my information is not enough for you can we remove the reference or inference. I think you might when this other party who is stalking posts and is posting on other names to add that little "notice" to his or her posts.

I'm close enough to Louisiana to know something is wrong with a piss poor attitude attacking those indigent in the state for no reason and acting as if this soul controls the state. As Joey mentioned even a one time Governor of Louisiana was a mental case released from the state bin on good behavior..

Him Folks — I came upon this late. I believed in my state at least doctor shopping was the procuring of scripts for MULTIPLE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES from different docs. Somewhere along the tine, I was taught that if the patient discloses all the info and its not that he;s taking 10 C-0IIs drugs prescribed by Dr. Feelgood, he's covered and I'm covered. That's what the state med society says, but they're reading from the same texts I am!

Dearest P, I've been having a lousy week, better now, so I'm not up to speed. My sister's having fairly serious GYN problems, but they're under control and her ONB-GYN asked if she could prescribe Klonopin. I didn't see why not. The BuSpar her shrink gave her was worthless and she had some sort of scare with Xanax. She still won't tell me exogamy what happened. I suggested she write it as "Clonazepam - Sandoz," since Anne's a whiz of an attorney but doesn't know meds near as well. God knows what she heard about Klonopin.

So mom has decided to give the new primary care doc the opportunity to sit in as Pain mgt doc until she can find someone closer, Ive given her all her paperwork and told her that Im here for questions but she needs to talk one on one with the doc, be straight with her and blame the rest on me. I am disheartened yet confident that she will do well.I have much respect for all of you and hope things do get better for one and all. will let you know how it all goes next week for mom, shes just been cleared for the first knee replacement and the spine surgery is recovering well. it kind of puts all the trivial BS on here into perspective. I hope my written experiences have helped at least one person, i know that the responses i have recieved back have really helped me find that center one needs to move forward, thanks all, will keep you posted. later

No pain patient should be receiving opioids and have someone hold their hand. Example is one situation where I was called in as a professional witness for my own physician. A man I referred in whose wife held his medications and controlled his every pill made a huge error. The patient asked for stronger medication and was so sedated that his wife woke him up (when the pill was due again) and forced it down his throat. He ended up dead. No more details.

Interesting when the DA did some more history when she was in her early 20's her first husband died this way too. BWS it seems.

Your mother unless totally incompetent and then she needs nursing care should be empowered and make her own decisions. Chronic pain is forever she will need her medications for life no doubt and she can do this on her own. In this environment in America one doctor should write her medications.

I think some tenet of 12-Step therapy can be successfully adapted, but Ill never send a pt to AA/NA "Cult City". I learned my lesson during one of my Residencies. You're intelligent enough t separate the wheat from the chaff in group tx," but sometimes people are too frazzled to to that, even if they're educated and intelligent. I also hear and see more reports of Predation in AA/NA and that;s NEVER A GOOD SIGN. I was tricked once; I returned to turn that AAgroup upside down when my mentor asked me to accompany a patient being harassed for taking a non-addicting drug called TRIAVIL (pherphenazine and amitriptyline). The Doc primarily treating her couldn't believe his ears; patients exaggerate unknowingly snd there's psychic reality and all that — but this you lady told the truth. These people, including on GP were out of control. I was there and I identified myself stating that the doc was violating the Rules and Regulations of the State Board of Medicine by interfering with another doc's case. I added that anonymous is NOTHING compared to attorney-client or physician-patient privilege, regardless of what they believe, and we knew the full names of enough witnesses and commenters to place them all on a formal complaint. What this GP jerk didn't know is that my escort was we of the Chief of Staff to the governor or our fair state and he liked her very much. He told me that she;s brilliant in her own right and this s*** needs to stop. I think there were many painful individual and collective bowel movements when they learned who her husband was, that the governor knew all about it and issued a public statement of support for her actions against the group and her doc was probably the best shrink in the state. One loudmouth whose only red was 15 years of sobriety tried to stop me from writing down names. You cab remove your hand, or I'll break your wrist and charge you with assault, interfering with an official investigation. (It was OK'd by the gov!)

see, this i can respond to, your point is well taken and i agree whole heartedly, this is where i wished i had found these boards earlier, i thought i was doing a service by taking one less step out of this whole process but i can see now that they are all important steps placed there for reasons. Now, the bad news, im sure an oversight but you missed this one big point, Her condition is for a finite period of time, not lifetime, thats the beauty of this patients treatment plan right? barring no complications, one can surmise how long a cervical stenosis surgery will take to recover as well as the first knee replacement and 2nd knee replacement and then of course the recovering of those and the therapies and the weaning off of all of it. Now make your most intelligent guess temation, double , triple, quadruple that for the complications and youve got your number!!! of course too date it hasnt even been close to being that cut and dry but if you all remember in the beginning, The cervical stenosis was found by mistake, postponing the first knee replacement. had she not taken an injury near the knee replacement site, the knee never would have been postponed, thereby not allowing her to see that nuerologist about this carpal tunnel she thinks she may have {NOT!) of course the diagnosis was more than just stenosis and no one knew how she was not paralyzed with the spinal cord bunched up like that in several places but my point is that all she had going into this was numbing of her hands and tingling, no pain whatsoever except for the knees. People have told her that they had never seen anything like it. my thought about that is simple, I think my mom has sacraficed and endured many things for this family and pain is something she just endured here. i cant imagine only getting a 7th grade education plus contend with some of the most high maintenance children ever put on this earth. And thats what we were, I have long ago seen the true value of that 7th grade education and how much more valuable that was in this world. and the kicker, the thing that makes it all seem even more surreal is that my mom, isnt really my biological mom, how special am i too have this mom placed before me. Pardon me, it would seem i am digressing. P. can you accept the fact that you could ever be wrong, that you can help someone, just not in the way you wanted to? because brother, thats what youve done here today, as of late i realize that i had forgotten all of the stuff i just spoke of, thank you for bringing that back to me. i know P , youre going to try to find every reason to dismantle these words and make them into something they are not, but I got you there.. barring no complications, my mom has a time frame here and that is something that is rarely seen and you damn well know it so you can say whatever you want but it wont change that fact. and thats something to celebrate as well so either put the damn hat on or theres the door. Lol, ok easing up on the starbuckys

Victor I am sorry to tell you this once any discs have moved to stenosis which is fibrotic tissue and immobile surgery will not reduce the pain. At best she will have some decreased neurologic issues, and perhaps reduce cervical headaches BUT will she have pain YES.

In today's government DEA FDA witch hunt physicians will tell you whatever it takes to move forward. We have a stigma rule on FDA 120 mg. morphine equivalent, and you do realize that patients these days get arrested not just physicians.

Physicians and nurse of my caliber in America (Western Medicine) have an education for a reason so that we can do what is needed to give quality of life. Well even when Odumma rows his banana boat downstream we still will have several years with an aggressive leader who believes in profit motive and world leadership not simpering "I am the first this or that let's stir some fecal product and ruin lives" so Victor she will and already has chronic pain.

Stenosis is not curable.

Victor, Dude, Not that it really matters but I just really want to tell you that I'm 99.9% sure that P450 is a female. I just thought you'd like to know. I remember reading one of her posts she mentioned having a "ovarian cyst". Just sayin.

Sass yes I am a female 100% Dr. Joey is a male!

Victor there is no mistake in the medical world or God's world.

Cervical stenosis which is also one of my 400 plus diagnoses for pain which is intractable and incurable has because it is time oriented--if you have a cervical rupture; it is diagnosed immediately and then either resolves through the body's healing process OR surgically repaired within two years of the assault there is fibrosis. The inflammatory response is where WBC's rush to the walled off area (injury) in an attempt to resolve a situation that is abnormal. When a structural injury occurs the homeostatic process is permanently disrupted. Titanium hips for example outlive the patient that does not mean that the patient with normal hips does not fare better just opening the body in any area surgically also causes an inflammatory response. Touching a vital organ internally causes this response.

This means that abnormal scar tissue forms. Does not matter if it appears a patient is normal once assaulted or responding to injury the body heals in a manner ABNORMAL to what it was normally built to do. That means again fibrotic tissue which is ropey, hard, tense, does not stretch the normal tissue prior to injury DID SO. The more scarring that occurs the worse it becomes.

To tell a patient that surgery if they have chronic disc issues anywhere in the spinal cord is a joke. I know most of us who are handled conservatively seek several surgical opinions if sudden miracles are promised. FBS is more normal then top surgeons which I do have however, I do NOT repeat DO NOT go under the knife until it is life threatening. That is due to what I described above.

What your mother has throws her entire anatomy off. If her knees are bad she cannot ambulate properly if she has cervical stenosis she is already out of alignment and likely has several osteophyte formations which will need reduction and removal to repair her disorders.

She will need pain management most likely in order she have quality of life for life. She will need one specialist to write these medications and this should be done with all surgeons, and ancillary physicians aware. Simply put that is the legal way to do it.

Dont get caught up in it, I can make this very simple, and no matter what gender. but remember, there are vulnerable people on here that are going to believe in people like P. And for that reason alone, for someone who claims to be getting doctors referrals yet in the process, starts making these grand proclamations, spouting unverifiable statistics and yet manages to let everyone know that he is or she is credentialed here? You have to know then, by its very definition, to proclaim that, in a forum like this, is either beyond ridiculous or simply too sad to fathom, geeze the yearning you have for those real "credentials" is almost palpable here. leave people alone here before you do some real harm. your ticket to entitlement is invalid in this forum

Victor feel free to ask Administration if I am who I state however, with someone as dangerous as you I am not releasing anything further. I did this voluntarily due to the aggression several individuals who clearly are here for the wrong reasons getting "testy" when Dr. J. and I told them where they were coming from.

There is nothing more to be said to you other then get help and leave your mother's medications alone!!

Every pain patient here suffers when someone abuses the right of a pain patient given medication for chronic pain.

The physician referrals being made by P450 is info anyone can find on the internet. She is only going by the info online regarding the prescriptions doctors wrote in 2012 that were paid for by Medicare Part D. I also think she uses reviews from sites on the internet. Reviews can be written by anyone including the Dr or their office staff so they can't be depended on.

All she has to go by is what someone says and their medical records may well present a different picture to a Dr and his staff when they are actually read.

Victor, I could not agree with you more. P450 states she worked in a mental hospital as a nurse. Her so call medical knowledge is something anyone who has the time can find and read on the internet.I also have worked in the medical profession but I certainly do not mention it on 90% of every post I write. I am sure there are other medical professionals who have chronic pain that are on these sites but I never seen someone so determined to convince others about there work in the medical profession. In fact no real nurse would be telling people what to do medically because of the possible dangers of leading a person in the wrong direction since you they have no background or real knowledge of the patient. I also have some spinal stenosis along with many others on this site. However mine is not at the point to were your mother's in needing surgery. To do surgery for stenosis it has to be causing nerve damage and I know that pain can be horrible. I have has it before but for a another reason. P450 has never examine your mother nor looked at her tests or anything else. While P450 is right that your mother will have some pain for the rest of her life that does not mean the surgery will not help her pain level decrease greatly.

p450, cant you just give the information without all the other BS. you have as much right to be on here as I do but Im tired of the resistance everywhere, this was support for me, so say what you will, personally, Im sorry, and embarrassed at my behavior,i still have a mom who needs guidance and clearly im not the one to give it soooo cant we just shutup and talk already, i dont care who you are, please dont question my motives, im way past that and time is short. if you got info, i got questions.

BL and Victor very interesting combination. Victor comes back to post after a physician and a nurse but both the physician and nurse assess damage.

What damage did we assess?

1. That someone on pain management has a family member who is doctor hopping meaning requesting more pain management medications from more than one of her physicians. This tendency with over compensation and excuses as well as asking questions to understand "what did I do wrong" lead to a consensus medically of a family member interfering with patient care, and potential diversion.

2. Then we have a poster who has posted nonstop negative posts on Medicaid recipients in the State of Louisiana. Not at all supportive but condescending. When he or she gets called on it NOW they determine they will degrade (if they can because they would not have the balls to do so in person) that their game is up they have been found out.

Resources are available but a professional nurse doing pain support for over 20 years and a nurse for longer as well as a published scholarly researcher and for both of you big mouths (no better word to call people who insult without cause when given medical information they cannot tolerate because it involves their own ACTIONS to harm in the real world and people on this site) rectifies and gives support well BL cannot take it.

BL does not give any physician names BL is here to degrade anyone on this site because in the real world BL does not have a pain specialist and likely there is a medical reason for this. The information BL gives is not appropriate at all. Further when I pick a physician name I have sites where only health care professionals go to check credentials and also will know if they are a physician that I know professionally. I have an entire list of specialists that I personally have referred to and many do die or get out of this business for the malpractice rates and unfair medical treatment by government agencies make it too high a risk.

The signs are obvious and I'm sure many who are not professionals picked this up. Do you know how many people who do these actions end up in federal prison? Many do they get caught. Further the victims are the ones in pain because people NOT in pain are overdosing and leading to these rules that are now inflicting torture on those legitimate and in pain.

BL you should get some compassion or not say a thing. Didn't your mother ever say to you "say something nice or don't open your mouth." Well if she did not I am telling you now that what you say and do here is stupid and childish and is causing those desperate and in need to NOT post here.

I will leave it at that and hope you two (peas in a pod) get the answer now. As for Jenifer she is just alittle bullet pulled in for the ride and in my opinion both of you have just fallen off the horse; even an animal would not take the treatment you two dole out. I can say this MOST of us can sleep at night because MOST of us do not do people this way and Victor your MOTHER.
