Generic Vs Vicodin
UpdatedFor many years I've sufferd from Fibro pain and for many years I've taken the generic Watson, which was just fine
Now every couple of months the pharmacy changes the generic brand and I've had an incredibly rough time and suffered through the different brands, some are just crap, the pharmacist recommends ti ask the doc to write, Vicodin brand only on the script, this makes perfect sense, but says my insurance may not cover this, Is this truley the best route and dose anyone have suggestion s on the best Watson's or others? I am currently on the 7.5/325.

Your Dr can write the rx for the brand and specify on the rx to dispense as written no.generic substitutions allowed. It is highly possible that your insurance company won't pay for it.
Sheila, I take the brand name Vicodin by Abbvie I believe this is the only manufacturer that makes brand name Vicodin. I have been taking the 10/300 for almost a year and have had no side effects and it actually works at relieving my lower back pain. It doesn't take away all the pain just makes it bearable and allows me to do more activities each day. It also has less tylenol than generic norco. I have insurance & my pharmacy has always filled my rx and my insurance has always covered it each month. Vicodin also comes in the 7.5/300.
Thanks for the post, any input helps. And I believe Abbott is the original vicodin manufacturer, I may just talk to the doc about the 10/300. Dose this help you with energy to get things done and move? They also have me on a long release Zohydro, which helps alot for that burning intense pain and he writes the hydrofor the onset pain.
Sheila - I don't know if the vicodin gives me "energy" but it does allow me to get out of bed and do errands and get through my day without that drowsy loopy feeling. Do you take the Watson white ones with red dots on them? I tried those once and they made me sick feeling like I wanted to throw up but never did. So I will never take those again. I know Qualitest makes a generic norco it is a yellow oblong pill which isn't bad but again has 325 mg. of tyelonol and to me isn't as strong as brand name Vicodin and doesn't last as long. I can get by with taking three 10/300 all day and move around with little pain. I believe Knoll was the original manufacturer of Vicodin but they are no longer in business they used to also make dilaudid. I think you will find the Vicodin to work pretty well without all those nasty side effects of other generics or with most of the crap generics out there now they just don't work and it's like taking a sugar pill and a waste of money.
Mine are from 'QUALI'. I have no idea where in the world that is but they are always exactly the same. I found problems with Watson as some were basically sugar pills and others were very strong. Insurance will probably cover brand name but at a much higher cost to you. I finally went to brand name before I switched pharmacies and now get the 'QUALI' ones which are always perfect. Hope this helps. Check other pharmacies in your area and ask what brands they carry. To your best~Pood
Yeah, there are different variations in the Watson, I always remember the colored Watson s worked well, And thats what I got for years, the pharmasist did say that some have changed the ingredienty Is your Qualist brand the yellow ones with the 3601? I heard those are effective?
And dose anyone know if the Watson 3203 white ones helpful, that is what one pharmacy has in stock, this has been a nightmare just trying to fill this script after last months fill an ineffective fill, the pharmasist is trying to get what I need in stock, ( still waiting though )
Yes, I have taken those It said on bottle they where the Norco brand and not very effective.
Now I've had a doc tell me, for sure that the generic are just not the same thing, name brand is the only way to get quality and consisitity in our medication, and true to many medications, the pharmacist agrees to the variations. And in case everyone doesn't know THE FDA REQUIRES THESE GENERIC COMPANIES ONLY MEET A CERTAIN MINIMAL % OF INGREDIENT, and different fillers for different manufacturers, this IS A FACT! FOLKS, FDA regulates us, why not these companies more closely I mean shouldn't we get what we pay for, while the cheaper our pharmacy s go the more profit right.
Well Steve, I understand COMPLETELY what it is not to be able to get off the couch and move around, and get things done. That's all we want our pain managed and to go on with our day like others, and maybe actually be able to attend a function, or get something done around the house.
If a Brand says it has 10 mg, it has 10 mg. But, if a generic says 10 mg it can be 8 mg-12 mg.
Just asked my MD for a higher amount and I got Rx for 10/325. I would have swore a 300 was made and she said NO. I don't understand all this need for the acetaminophen. Yes, we need a carrier but how much does it have to be. I don't like taking them but she messed up big time and I'm on them until numerous body parts can be replaced which definitely is not now…possibly a year from now if I'm lucky.
Poodle - the 300 mg. are the brand name Vicodin made by Abbvie I take the 10/300 mg. for a year now. The generic norco is 10/325. Next time you see your pm doctor ask her to write brand name on your script but it must say Vicodin 10/300 mg. and you should have no problems getting it filled. I do know some pharmacies don't have the brand name Vicodin on the shelf but it is no problem for them to order it. I get mine at Walgreens and one time they were out and had to order it but this only happened one time. The brand name to me are stronger and last much longer than the generic norco.
Be sure your Dr also indicates on the rx that no.substitutions are allowed
Your insurance may not pay for it.
My Doc swore up and down there was not a 10/300 so she wrote it for 10/325. At the pharmacy I asked the pharmacist and she said yes, 10/300 is Vicodin. I have not tried the new ones yet but next time I will ask for BRAND NAME ONLY. I'm beginning to wonder about her mind. She has been doing a lot of very strange things lately. Perhaps it is past time for her to retire. She used to be right on top of everything but not now. When the patient knows more than the MD, we are in a world of hurt.
With generics, Vicodin, Lortab and Norco are all filled with the same Med hydrocodone and tylenol. So there is no reason for drs to think there is any difference. I've seen patients get a rx written for Lortab get the yellow hydrocodone and tylenol.
I can definitely say that the new generic 10/325 is less sufficient than my old 7.5's. I'm thinking of taking the bottle back to the Dr. and say I want brand name only for this. You can have this because I don't want it.
i have issue with some genericd as well i always make sure the drug store has the type generic that works before i have them fill the script
you can call around to find watzons but a brazian co bought them out last year i think .... on 10-325 norco yellow football shaped seem to work best ,,,, also 75mcg patch
When I went in to complain, she said it was the hydrocodone that was not working anymore so she switched me to a totally different drug and I feel 1,000% better. I was a bit afraid of the switch but after a short chat with my pharmacist I know she made the best choice for me right now. Hopefully, after Christmas I won't need any of them anymore. The hydrocodone (10/325) was made by Malli. It works well for 4 hours, but not 6 for me. I actually sleep all night long without waking up to remed after the change. I didn't realize how much it was not working well for me until the change.
