Are Vicodin and Hydracodone the same? I have been receiving Hydracodone from the VA Medical Center and on my last refill I received what appears to be generic Vicodin. There's a 'V' on one side and a 3592 on the opposite side of this white oblong pill. thank you in advance for your response.

You are probably more familiar with lortab. There are some differences. I have heard that lortab without the aspirin works very well for moderate to severe head trauma (i.e., shot in the head; literally he has a new eyeball and all is ok now).
Unfortunately I imagine that the VA is using the cheapest and "safest" mixture.

The V is a manufacturer's logo, it is not indicative of what the tablets contain.
However, Vicodin does contain Hydrocodone, and Acetaminophen, and the tablet with the V 3592 marking is listed as having contained 5mgs of Hydrocodone, and 500mgs of Acetaminophen, but this was changed several years to containing only 325mgs of Acetaminophen, due to new FDA regulations. No dose of combined opiate medications can contain more 325mgs of Acetaminophen per dose. NDC: 00603-3881 Thus, the tablets with the 500mgs of Acetaminophen are no long available.
The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.
