Generic Macrobid

This antibiotic did cause burning in the chest, heart palpitations, disgusting taste in mouth that nothing can get rid of, loss of appetite and diarrhea and vomiting the first day I took it with yogurt. I wouldn't advise anyone to take this medication with dairy. Be sure to have a FULL meal before taking this medication to avoid severe nausea ?? I also had joint pain in my calves and tingling in hands and feet.

Sorry to hear about your experience with generic Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin). Looking at the drug monograph on NIH.gov, all of what you mentioned, aside from heart palpitations & that "disgusting" taste, are reported to be general side effects from the medication itself. However I too try to stay away from dairy as often as possible. Not sure if that's what set off your vomiting, but in my experience there are cases where dairy may exacerbate it because of it being mucous forming.

How long did the side effects last before subsiding?
