Hello, Kim! How are you?
It was just approved in 2007, so it will likely be several more years, before a generic is available. The exclusive patent rights for prescription medications usually last for about 20 years, then they can file appeals to prevent generics from being released for even longer periods of time.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, increased urination and hypotension.
If it is too expensive for you, there are similar medications that are available as generics, so you may want to ask your doctor about them.
Is there anything else I can help with?
