Generic Oxycontin Prescription
UpdatedYesterday my doctor wrote me a prescription for "Oxycontin 20mg tablets" When I got to shoppers I was told they no longer make that medication. I was looking to get the generic oxycontins that I know are now available in Ontario. My doctor does not know much about this medication, and I am curious if she needs to write the prescription out differently. (I am thinking the generic name for oxycontin is oxycodone) Does anyone know for sure? As I have an appointment at the end of January and would be able to get the generic oxycontins that help relieve my chronic pain. I just need to be able to tell my doctor what the generic name is. Thank you in advance for all your help.
Hi Mac,
Oxycodone and Oxycontin are actually a little bit different. Oxycodone is an immediate release version and Oxycontin is an extended release version. If you're ok with immediate release I would just have your Doctor write you a new prescription.
I haven't heard anything or read anything that says Oxycontin is no longer available, have you tried any other pharmacies?
Yes the Dr. Needs to write a new script saying generic oxycodone in what ever milligram when you get them before you leave the pharmacy verify they say APO on one side and the milligram on the other
Thank you. Oxycontin was discontinued in Ontario last year being replaced by the new tamper proof version known as oxy neo. I do not like the oxy neos as they seem to take forever to start to kick in before my pain starts to become barable. I also find they do not work as well. So I should have my doctor write " generic oxycodone 40mg" instead of oxycontin 40mg?
Generic Oxycontin is no longer made in Ontario for anyone .( it doesn't matter if your on ODSP or pay yourself) As you know Oxyneo is the new tamper resistant one. The gov't has now approved drug companies to make generic oxycontin ( the old ones). And I know they are fast tracking it. But it is not avail. here yet. You said your taking 20mgs, so your stuck with the oxyneo's for now. The immediate release Oxycodones are not covered by ODSP but percocets are ( 325mg tylenol+ 5mg oxy)...Good Luck,I bet the generics will be out within next month or two ( there are thousands taking Oxy & the govt wont lose all the money it makes from it so its coming. We just have to wait for the red tape !
Are you people kidding? The ones asking for generic oxycotins ask as tho they are stupid or something. "does any know where I can get oxycotin for my pain? I need these. And THIS kind for my PAIN!" what ever. You just want to know what pharmacy has the new generic oxys because you were switched to the neos and want the new ones so you can crush them , snort ect. And just abuse them like you did last year. Notice how the poster says in his follow up the oxys were replaced by neos ? Didn't say that in his oridgional post did he? NO because he's a junkie a abuser and he thinks people here are stupid! I notice many other people here asking about the generics acting as tho there stupid too. They damm well are just abusers. Ones replying that have no clue should keep there mouth shut! They don't want to hear , ask your DR for ms cotin or oxycodone ( morph) they want crushable abuseable old style oxys. Goofs
The generics have been here for months already... Ontario was the first prov. to get them and now Alberta finally has them. There r 6 different companies that make the generics do be careful. 2 or3 brands actually gel up on you if snorted and the apotex seems to be the closest one to the original. Just make sure u tell ur pharmacist that you want the generic apotex and nothing else. .. My doc took me off the neos as I complained every week that 180mg a day did nothing. So he now has me on fentanyl 150 mcg. /72h . And let me tell you that this is the worst narc to ever take . I tried to go bak to generics now and all these docs r saying no to everybody . And now I don't k ow what to do
The abuser damm well knew the oxys were changed to neo. And he comes here asking where can he get generic ones like the old ones. His dr must be retarded. As if she hasn't heard anything about oxy coming off the market and replaced with neo. Not a bright dr. I wouldn't be going to see her. The poster above is not in any pain what so ever! Just a user/abuser like most of the ones here crying how much pain they are in. Oh they wouldn't ever try other pain meds such as morphine ect. No way. They want oxy so they can just abuse them just like the heroin and crack heads here begging to fing oxy online or at pharmacys. I think they will pull these generics shortly after release or make it so hard to get a script because they are regulated so tough by the goverment now that a dr has to try all other pain meds and apply to the goverment so his patients can receive a generic script. Its that or neo script. The dif is neo can't be abused. Crushed/injected after breaking it down. The fourms here are 99% full of abusers. Not reg people needing pain management. If there was a pill that helps them would they care if it was a abusable generic old style oxy ? I don't think so. If morph helps or neo helps they are happy and able to live a somewhat normal life just as myself!
Wow. You seem pretty angry, and assume everyone here has no legitimate reason to ask for the generics. Well, have to ever thought that those generics, are about a 1/3 the price of the Neos? The Neos (with a bit of dose correction,as they did take longer for me to find the pain control kick in) worked fine for me. But, I don't have insurance, and they are so much more expensive, that I have had to dip into my investments 15 years ahead of time. By the time I am ready to give up my biz (which I could never do without proper pain control) I won't have much of a retirement savings to live for/on. And as to the other assumption that if oxycontin works, then so too should morphine, I am afraid that's incorrect as well. I was on morphine for a little over a year, and it was one of the worst years. The morphine had to be extremely high doses relative to the other meds I had taken. I was extremely constipated to the point of causing more pain. And let me assure constipation can be an very painful problem if endured long enough. It gets to the point where you don't want to eat anymore. The other issue with morphine for me , is that it made me feel like I had chronic pneumonia. My chest hurt so much at times, it became very painful to breath. Now causing more pain to a pain patent seems counter-intuitive don't ya think,
Please don't assume that a one size fits all approach to medicine is anywhere near practicing good medicine. It's really not. I'm glad whatever you're on s working for you, but don't deny those of us who need something else to work for them, the right to proper medicine. You may hate oxycontin, though that isn't very rational to hate a non sentient thing, but it is very effective for those who need it and use it as they are instructed. People who abuse drugs, well....they will always be around. If they were treated as people with health issues, just as those of us who have severe pain are, then perhaps we'd see a more productive way of helping them. People who not committing crimes against others should not be thrown in jail for what they do with their own bodies. That to me, is what s actually criminal: the state having absolute sovereignty over ones' own body. Abhorrent to me. And the fact that is costs way more to put one individual through the justice system than it does to give them scientifically based medical treatments is making some very very rich, and isn't you or I who pay for all those taxes that could be put to much better use.
Not. a one of those who became addicted, said to themselves, "hey, I want to be a drug addict, that sounds like fun. I will become socially isolated and all my family and friends will reject me. My only "friends" won't even be real. They'll all be dealers who just want my money, and "friends" looking for a free high. My whole life will revolve around getting drugs, and most of society will revile me. Yeah, that sounds like a great and happy life for me."
I've known good people who have fallen prey to addiction. Some of them are dead now, and some are walking dead. Some are trying to put the pieces back together. I would hope you could show some compassion and not dismiss them all as what you constructed as your view of them all.
We don't know their individual stories, and you may be right on some level about some aspects of some lives, but I don't know how productive it is to cast boulders and rocks at those who are already clearly suffering enough. And from personal experience, I find it doesn't help my pain levels any, by being angry at people I don't even know. It isn't their fault that we are stuck with an over priced version of an almost as effective medication. It's the fault of knee jerk reactive politicians, none of whom have really experienced the devastating effects of what a life with chronic pain can be like for some, and who bow to sensationalized media stories. And did this hurt Purdue at all? Oh no, they the rich ones, with their hands up the asses of politicians: puppets at the money trough, bent over in gluttony. The patent for Purdue original oxycontin was due. Hey time to fiddle with the delivery method, and get another 20 years of outrageous price gouging. Yeah, but go ahead, blame it on the addict with barely a 100 bucks to his or her name.
Enough said. And I do agree, for someone with chronic pain, you are very angry and hostile to addicts. Even legitimate chronic-pain patients abuse their medication. So I find it pretty offensive that you'd bash addicts like that. I know plenty of legit patients, that get multiple opioids and abuse one or two of their meds, but no one criticizes them, because they've got some serious acting skills. So don't judge. We're only human. People will be people. But in my area of the province (Ontario), I haven't seen anyone get t generics because doctors are scared s***less to write scripts. Not just because they know addicts will get them, but also legit patients abuse their scripts and then sell them too! So for the people who b**** about addicts getting these pills, you're providing them more then the criminals obtaining them from robberies or other dealers.
I am a chronic pain patient in California and have never abused drugs and do not even drink alcohol and my father was V.P. of Sales Training in Eli Lilly and was taught the dangers of Rx's so please do not acuse honest pain patients asking questions about when generic Oxy comes out. By reading threads I have now discovered and will take to my pain doctor that the tamper proof pills do not act on pain as well as the old kind. I thank everyone for informing me of this because my doctor never said anything.
We're Canadian. The generic OC's for the states won't be available til April I think. I'm almost positive that I read the american patent doesn't expire until then. Generic Opana is out though for you guys Kerry. Our patent for the OC's ran out in November of last year.
You sound so disgusted by these people that 1 you dont know and 2 you have no proof of your accusations. I used to be addicted to medication and it almost ruined my life, ppl who are addicted need love support and help not you looking down on them. You have no clue so dont make assumptions about ppl when you really have no clue. Spread love not your anger and hate
Not sure of other places, but in most of Florida, it is virtually impossible to get any OxyContin in a store, you mostly have to do mail away. In fact, getting any opiate ( Vicodin, Percoset, etc), is not only difficult , it is downright humiliating. You are instantly perceived as being a pill head, most pharmacists will actually argue if you need to take that many or that mg!! I realize my lovely state holds the dubious title if the #1 state for pill OD deaths, but to be quizzed, lectured and harrassed in front of lines of customers EVERY 30 days causes major stress. Bc of the death rate, ech pain mgnmnt doc is only permitted to prescribe xxx amount of opiates( based on mg, not quantity) of any type each month and each pharmacy is only allowed to fill xxx of total mgs each month. So, if you where not a long standing customer of a pharmacy, when the law went into effect, you were no longer able to get scripts filled and most pharms are at their levels. If you drive more than 5 or so miles from your house to look for a pharm, they will actually call police/ DEA type people who will find and question you! I am actually sympathetic to addicts, it is pure hell, but it is aggravating that bc of them, I cannot get legal scripts filled without mailing away!
Oxycodone is the active ingredient in oxycontin i have no idea what the generic name will be let me know if you find out
You seem so angry with people you know nothing about yet assume the worst of & then blame them for your problems. Perhaps attend an anger venting forum on how holding on to anger effects the whole mind& body making it more sensitive to pain PS STAY CALM PLEASE
I know i am on the Fentanyl as well....I switched from 30mg Oxycodone 5 times a day to 4 mgs of Dilladud per day...I still take my tramadol on top of it because its the only thing that works for my osteoarthritis.......ant yea the withdrawal from a patch sliding in your sleep and finding it on the bed instead of your skin in the morning.....makes for the ALL TIME WORST WITHDRAWAL.......Its man made H thats what i believe....but if u cant find the new oxys that worked better for you...I suggest getting on Hydromorphone
Why would you be so mean... I was only reading this outta bordon and a friend looking up pain relief as she suffers and takes nothing for it... anyways buddy ypu got a real bad attitude... what do you care? The person asked a question and ya just went off... peace dude... don't let forums get to ya
Getting pain medication is a real problem in Florida. I was on pain medication for a while, never abused, supposed to take one to two a day of 5 milligram hydrocodone as needed for pain. I never asked to be increased, took drug panels which said I didn't have enough in my system and refused to give me anymore. Now I'm stuck with just tramadol which usually helps a little but not always. I had started to work out and try to get back in shape until I was taken off the hydros which helped me to exercise but now it takes all I can to get through a day of work and come home.
Lu y17 yellow round pills are oxycontin 40 mg. I found it on a few sites but they're hard to look up based on the fact that they're new to the market.
That statement you made is not true there is both immediate and slow release oxycontin because I've been on them both
