Generic Opana Er (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

Wanted to share with everyone how happy I am to have finally received the new generic Opana ER 20mg tablets from my pharmacy. I had found Opana to be very effective for my chronic pain and was very sad when they switched it over to the new formula as it wasn't nearly effective as the original octagon shaped tablets and caused stomach aches. These new generic ones seem to me to be as effective as the original formula had been.

The tablets I received show to be made by Global Pharmaceuticals and are a small, round, green tablet with G73 imprinted on them. I'm happy to report that these are just like the original formula. Now I no longer have stomach aches from taking those plastic pills that Endo is selling.

I sure do hope that these remain as they are, but I have read a couple articles that state it may not be too long before the generic tables are switched to the new formula. I hope that never happens as I'm very happy to be back on effective Opana once again - it has been the only medication I've received that allows for me to have a clear head while taking care of my pain.

Best of luck to others in achieving effective pain relief!

i get the activis oxymorphone 15 mg er tabs and have been very pleased with how they work.i also recieved some of the new generic opana 40's recently and it seems like they are just slightly different than the old octagon tabs but they are still 100% better than those garbage opana tabs that endo is pushing.those are total garbage and shouldn't be sold to patients.

I would be really upset if I were you. I think you should try to find a pharmacy that will fill with the generic to save you pain and money and, failing that, you should find a new doctor. I would tell the doctor "It's only a street drug if it gets to the street!" And tell her you're offended that she's not trusting that what she writes for you will stay with you and not get to the street!"

Walgreens should be sued for their universal way of treating people like s*** and lying about everything. I get the g73 opana, yes they are better than the info plastic discs, but I don't find them the same as the old green/yellow stop sign octagon 20/40 mg er made by end.I get stomachs cramps and nausea, takes forever to kick in,I pass the pill undigested once in awhile also. Any pharmacy can order any class 2 medication,if they say no they are lying due to profit mmotivation. They are a business after all,and not there to jus st hand out drugs.

I'm on 40mg generic it's orange"G74"
I tried the old one and new plastic one as well, the generic gives me a get up and go feeling but the plastic one made me lazy! But if i double my dose on these generic one then I get sleepy it works way faster than plastic one so maybe thats why you feel sleepy so try take less amount one time and if that helps you can switch to 10 or 15mg ex: instead of take 2x20mg daily take 4x10mg daily a other thing I dont know if you have anything for break though as I take Oxycodone 30mgx4 daily but if i take both kind together i get really sleepy so i make sure i put at least 1-2 hours between the Opana(Oxymorphone) and Oxycodone

Yes, you have to ask your doctor to write for Oxymorphone not Opana. I get the Generic brand name made by Global Pharm/Impax labs. The are amazing for pain and work just like the old Opans before they changed the formula. Also, FYI, ALL CVS pharms can get them no matter what they say.

Yes the generics have been out a while now. I'm wondering if they have a different maker than Roxanne Labs for the generic Oxymorphone 10mg IR's as they don't seem to work for me and I take the 40mg Opana ER G74 & this month I'm trying the brand by endo as these were made by global pharm and I've heard they're filled with plastic since reformulated and one ingredient can cause cancer, so I'm trying the brand this time. I also go to a small town pharmacy & they usually always have my meds if not they have them the next day. I went today & they didn't have brand or generic in stock of the 40mg ER Opana's so I'm assuming since they're reformulated to be abuse resistant more docs are prescribing them. They just don't agree with me so to find out, I paid the brand for the ER ones as the IR's at four times a day are outrageous in price even with my insurance yet, the brand are $200.00. I have a copay assistance card from endo that saves me $100 but the issue is it can be used 24 times but has to be every 31 days. I don't know of any doctor that gives a 31 day supply of pain meds. Most RX a 28 or 30 day supply, so what they expect you to go without your meds for a day or try to get your PM doctor with all that's going on to write a 31 day supply? Nice but I don't think they will with the new CDC guidelines for PCP's but a lot of PM docs are following the rules. I was cut from my Kadian (morphine sulfate capsules) where I took 2- 20mg"s there times a day. It was nice to have every 8 hours and not 12. Heck, I'd take a lesser Opana if I could split it out over every 8 hours it's even less with my insurance.

It's a deal endo cut with insurance companies so they could sell their product, because nobody wanted their garbage plastic pills that don't do anything. So the insurance companies are pretty much forcing their clients to buy endo's pills. And then the insurance co gets a kickback.

@MC Fisher,

That's great news. Glad to hear you've finally received a pain medication that works well for you! Many people haven't even been fortunate enough to get their script filled, let alone for something that works. So I'd say you're doing pretty well!

Did you have to put in a special request for the generic version over the brand names?

I'm sorry to hear about your suffering and am glad that Oxymorphone has been able to help you too.

Yes - I really got them!! That is why I posted. Just call your pharmacist and see if they can order them for you. Not only are they working better, but they saved me a lot of money.

According to the Orange Book, Actavis and Impax should have the ER versions although mine seems to have been manufactured by Global Pharmaceuticals (Which I think is Impax - not sure though). Google "G73 imprint" and the first hit is a picture of what I received.

I'm on the 20MG version, which has NDC# 0115-1233-01 (National Drug Code). Check out globalphar.com product page for your NDC# if you have a different strength.

Give your pharmacy a call and best of luck!!

The FDA also argued that Endo's insistence on a decision by Dec. 31 was less a safety concern than a tactic to delay a generics company from entering the market on Jan. 1.

One generic version is already on the market - Endo is suing that company - and others are to start in 2013. Impax Pharmaceuticals will start selling its version of the medicine Jan. 1.

Impax, like other generic companies, negotiated a settlement of a patent-infringement suit with Endo in 2010, allowing it to enter the market Jan. 1. Such arrangements are examples of the pay-to-delay settlements between the makers of brand-name drugs and the makers of generics of the same medicines that the Supreme Court will hear arguments on in 2013.

They(FDA) are going back to court May 2013 over the generic opana. I saved more files about this and will post them soon. FDA is also having meetings about making generic pain meds non abuse free made to make them abuse free they just can't make them the same as Endo's abuse free Opana's.

I went to the Global Pharmaceuticals website and printed out the page where it lists the oxymorphone ER's that are available. I then took my prescription and the print-out to my local Walgreens. They were not even aware of the generics being available!! They said that they would include it on their next order, and that I should have my prescriptions within 1 week. Give that a try. Also, it helps to have your pain management doctor write the script as "Oxymorphone 40mg. ER's), or whatever strength that you get. I hope that this helps you out a bit!!

Ok thank you hopefully that will work for me. I go to get them filled in a week. Like you said most the pharmacies I have called don't even know the generic exist.

Thanks for the info. I took 20mg ER 3 times a day and 10mg IR 3 times a day for a few years. Now I take them only 2 times a day each. Taking the generic of each now that it's available I actually do better taking less medication overall daily. I may have to go to 3 a day on the IR for breakthrough pain but I believe I can get by on only 2. I intend to take as little as possible until I simply have to increase. Hopefully I can last on less for a few years. Taking the generic certainly helps alot keeping the dosage down because it works so much better than the brand name. So, thank you for the info on them being available. My combat wounds and my stomach thank you! And my wallet! Have good day.

I have been taking the generic oxymorphone ER FOR 9 days. I find it doesn't last as long as the brand Opana. Opana lasts for 12-14 hrs but the generic is worn Orr after 8-9 hr. I am going to pay the extra copay for the brand name.

I find that the generics do not last as long either. The Actavis generic lasts about 8-9 hours and the Impax/Global generic works about 10 hours. I use the IR version to cover the gap. The generics work a hell of a lot better in my opinion. I prefer the Actavis generic, but the Impax/Global generic is good too. Both generics are leaps and bounds better than name brand IMO.

I don't have the links, but through google I was able to find all the court documents Endo has filed against the generic makers as well a presentation Endo made for its shareholders. Both are very telling. Endo is suffering huge losses from the generic old version and the reformulated version. The generic is crushing sales of the name brand version. Endo has probably lost tens of millions if not hundreds of millions to the generic already.

I hear what you are saying, but I have to inform you that the so-called generic is really not classified.as a generic because it is not the current opana formulation, meaning it's not crush-proof. I have spoken to several pharmacies and they all said that if hand them a Rx for opana, that is what they will give. To get the old version of opana that is now available, your doctor must write out oxymorphone hcl er. If your doctor won't write it that way, either tell him that you can't afford the brand med anymore or for him to change you to something else. Maybe that will prove that the new formulation really dose suck!! Most doctor's shouldn't have a problem writing it as oxymorphone.
