I took Gen Payne for a terrible headache I had. It worked like a charm, but my nose started itching like I am having a hayfever attack. Could this be a side effect or do you think that it might have been hayfever?

It's definitely not hayfever but probably the codeine in the tablets which caused the itching. Codeine is routinely converted to morphine in the body in order for it to be an effective painkiller.
One of the side effects of taking morphine is a horrible but sometimes pleasurable itch. I've been on long term use of morphine and it would always start with my nose itching then my torso and my legs. Hope I could answer your question
