I am 3+ years post-GB and have chronic back pain. Will be hanging my third back surgery at some time in the no to distant feature, which will include a vertebrae fusion.
I have been through a number of medications to help/deal with the pain, as well as a number of pain Doctors who have made me feel like a drug addict at times.
Some things I have learned along the way which I worked for - please check with your Doctor prior to trying these tips.
1. Liquid roxicet has been the only thing that has greatly reduced my pain (both skeletal, muscular, and nerve pain).
2. Be sure that you are not on any extended release medications as GB people have less of a transit time for medication to move through your digestive track, therefore you get less of the medical benefits.
3. Meds should be IR - Immediate Release when prescribed
4. For me, in my current situation waiting for back surgery, I am up to 12 10/325 mg oxycodone a day. Taking them whole does not help much. So I moved to chewing them, which had a horrible attested but was more effective. But what I do now is crush up 3 pills with a pill crusher, put it in a small bottle and with a splash of vodka and triple splash of Orange Juice. Something with the alcohol and acidity of the OJ breaks down the medication, andmy body finally absorbs it and I get the pain relief. This method is essentially making my own liquid roxicet, which as I said was one of the only things that ally has helped me, but physicians seem to be afriad of prescribing it.
Again, don't do this on your own without medical consultation. Just because it worked for me, does not mean it will work for you. I just wanted to sharehe results of my past wo years of injections, nerve eblations, several pain doctors who treat patients as criminals, etc.
Best of luck!
Have you discussed it with your doctor?
An issue that often occurs, after gastric bypass, is that many substances, including medications, don't get a chance to stay in your stomach long enough to be absorbed. The same can happen with foods, which is why people have to be careful not to become malnourished.
Didn't they discuss any of these issues with you, before the surgery?
