I have nerve pain in my right arm Doctor gave me gabapentin 300mgs to take twice daily how long does it take before I feel it working ## Hello, Dano! How are you? Since it isn't an actual analgesic, it may take 4 to 5 weeks, before it reaches its full level of efficacy in your body to see if it helps you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## took 3 days for relief of my nerve pain this time atound (in my buttock of all places) 2 years ago it is the only drug that kept me sane while waiting for a knee replacement. ## i took that 2 every 6 hours and i started walking down the steps and my legs gave out, i don't mean it will happen to you cos everybody is diffe...

How are you? That information is not correct. This capsule is manufactured by Ascend Laboratories and they list it as containing 300mgs of Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that is also used to treat some types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Uh no it's not klonopin, it's neurotin... Klonopin isn't a capsule,

If someone can please help me with these help with an opiate withdrawal or would they not? ## Hello, Jimmie! How are you? Gabapentin can be used to help minimize some of the withdrawal effects you may experience, such as the anxiety, dizziness, rebound pain and mood swings. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. It really depends how severe your withdrawals are, if they are very bad, it may not help much. Is there anything else I can help with? ## 300mg Gabapentin will help with convulsions, nerve pain such as Neuralgia, It will also help in minor cases of withdrawal, but will not stop them co...

I have been taking 300 to 900 mg's of Gabapentin for at least 15 yrs. for restless legs..doesn't seem to be enough now but am hesitant in taking more. Would it help if I took Cal Mag supplements as well at night? I also take a good magnesium supplement at night too. Also because of a recent trauma I'm on one mg of Clonazepam as well which doesn't much help. It puts me out for a couple of hours and then I'm awake. Between the restless legs and the lack of sleep my nights are a bloody nightmare and I'm totally fatigued the next day. Any help out there. Also I'm 75 yrs. old. ## Since my last post, I've seen my doctor and she says I can take 4 gabapentin a night so 1200mg's. It's a lot I know but it's helping the restless legs. Also, and this may ...

I've been so strung out on Gabapentin and Flexaril, which severely affect your sleep. I found a little something which is a blessing. Chloral Hydrate. It comes from China. This drug will get you to sleep fast and you'll stay asleep. Just 2-3 grams a night and you're out like a light. I was able to get off Gabapentin and Flexeril, both drugs that ruin your sleep. The crystals dissolve in water. There is no hangover. It tastes like s*** but I just chase with water. Do not abuse this drug or you'll be sorry. ## Hi Tedster, Sorry to hear about your challenges with sleep. Chloral Hydrate is actually something I've never heard of up till this point, so I want to thank you for mentioning it! Upon researching Chloral Hydrate I also noticed that the US National Library of Med...

While I was on 100 mg of gabapentin 3 to es a day my body felt sick. Nausea and headaches were the worst. Then so.a days I was just fine. I am taperi g now and I feel worse. Anything that will help with the tapering. I'm in 100 mg a day. I'm ready to be done with this drug. ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to the FDA, other typical side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, mood swings, and weight gain. As to the tapering, there isn't really much you can do to help, just take it as slowly as possible. How long have you been taking it? Are you on any other medications?

I've been taking 100mg @ night for 3 weeks. I have lightheadedness in the morning. Could it be gabapentin, or the caffeine from coffee that I take about 1/2 to 45 minutes before I get the lightheadedness? ## I was on this medication several years ago and one of the side effects was lightheadness. I also had headaches. ## Hi Sharon, According to NIH.gov, if you notice dizziness, drowsiness or nausea while on Gabapentin, you should talk with your doctor. The MayoClinic also confirms that lightheadedness is a side effect of Gabapentin. Something else worth noting is that a caffeine overdose can cause dizziness as well. I don't know how much caffeine you take, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possible contributing factor. Hope you feel better soon!

I was given this pill for a tooth ache which I awaken with an abscess with my right side of my face very sore and swollen, what's with this I've never experienced this reaction ever with a tooth pain envolving the same exact tooth, why this and why now? ## Hello, Destiny! How are you? Those symptoms are indicative of a dental infection, so that tooth most likely requires dental treatment to correct whatever underlying problem has caused the infection. You will likely need an antibiotic, as well, according to the NIH. As to this tablet, it is listed by Aurobindo Pharma as containing 300mgs of Gabapentin, which is not an actual analgesic, so it is not going to help with this type of pain. This medication can help with some types of nerve pain, but it must be taken consistently for...

I am on 600mgs gabapentin 3 times daily. It has caused weight gain and due to the short duration of action I have to dose three separate times. I wanted to know if pregabalin might be better for me. I take gabbys for anxiety and mood disorder. I have heard pregabalin is more efficient and effective. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks. ## There's no way to say which one is more efficient and effective for any given person that tries it, since we are all different. What works well for one person may not work for another, and vice versa. As reported by the FDA, they both carry the risk of causing similar side effects, which aside from the weight gain, may also include nausea, dizziness, headache, and mood swings. Have you discussed the issues with your doctor?

I have been taking Gabapentin 300 mgs.- 2 caps 3 x's a day. have continued to gain weight and cannot lose it. A friend said that Gabapentin is the reason. I researched it and it is true. It does take away t.n. but I gain weight!!! What is the answer? ## Yes, it has been known to cause serious weight gain in some people that take it, according to NIH reports. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and dry mouth. If the weight gain has been severe, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying an alternative medication, such as Pregabalin, to see if it may not cause you the same issue. Is there anything else I can help with? ## THANK YOU BUT NO--I WOULD LIKE A NEW BODY BUT NO ONE HAS ONE. THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER. ## TALKED TO MY FAMILY DOC...

Does it work better taking food with it? I had read somewhere that small snacks in between made it work better. ## Hello, Babsy! How are you? No, taking it with, or without food isn't known to alter its efficacy, though it may help prevent some of its side effects, such as the nausea and dizziness it can cause, according to the FDA. Other side effects may possibly include headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take 300 mg gabapentin morning and night and having trouble remembering names. I plan to try adding 5 mg Aricept to see if helps memory. I like not having the pain but would like to get my memory back. ## That can be a side effect of most anticonvulsants, and there isn't really anything that will change it, other than trying a different medication. As listed by the FDA, other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, mood swings, and weight gain. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor?

Today is day 7 of 1 pill daily, only 100mg. Second attempt trying this drug, don't like it. Can I simply stop? ## Hello, Suzi! How are you? What types of problems are you having with it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes. After 7 days on such a low dose, you can most likely just stop it, but it would be best to check with your doctor, because stopping abruptly could create the risk of seizures. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your reply; i can do it over a few days. To answer your question, just feel kinda "strange" at times, you know? Then again, hate to give up too early. All the negative reviews are scary to me.

Please give me information about the harmful effects of this drug if u take it without having a prescription. ## Hello, Terri! How are you? The effects of any given medication do not change, whether someone does, or does not have a prescription, the only thing that changes is the legality of it. Under current U.S. FDA drug laws, it is illegal to have it, or take it, if it has not been prescribed for you. It is an anticonvulsant that is also used to treat certain types of nerve pain, and some mood disorders. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've use Gabapentin, 600 mg. And I been on it for years, but different manufacturers are not the same at pharmacies and if I don't get the same medication I would feel funny, or anxiety would occurred if it don't have the same number on it.meaning it could be a off brand. ## I'm use to going to CVS for all my meds, now I'm going to a Pharmacy that i feel like its nothing like CVS. I strongly feel they don't know my history of my health. So when it came to reverse my Gabapentin.I became nervous, cause I have to have this Pacific brand, and I seen that it had a different number on it . I don't feel safe. ## Hello, Jewel! How are you? What can I take right after I jump off my gabapentin taper to buffer withdrawal? Any other type of med?? ## Hello, Noble! How are you? Are you tapering or just trying to stop it abruptly? If you stop abruptly it can create the risk of seizures, according to the FDA. Other withdrawal effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, depression and headache. ## I've looked into natural herbal teas to ease WD's from gabapentin. I found Valerian root, lemon balm, passionflower, hops, and chamomile along with lavender flowers combined into a tea helps greatly! {edited for privacy} ## Thanks for the reply. I have tapered down to 100mgs. Scared to jump off. I awfully terrified of heights. I've heard some awful stories.

I've been taking 300mg. gabapentin nightly for about 2 months I no longer want to take it because it does nothing for my back pain. Can I just stop taking it without problems. ## It is always best to taper this medication slowly, because stopping it abruptly can cause a risk of seizures. Other withdrawal effects may include rebound pain, depression, anxiety and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a prescription for Gabapentin that I used or anxiety. My doctor gave me a prescription for 3 months worth. I noticed on the label it says Refills: P what does P mean? ## I must admit this is one I am not familiar with and I'm wondering if it is a typo. Normally there would be a number there, or it would state no refills. However, only your pharmacist can say for sure, there may be some reason they use it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Gabapentin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?
