Gabapentin Max Dosage For Back Pain?
UpdatedHi, I've been on Gabapentin for about a year for back pain (I have DDD and arthritis in spine and back) I'm taking five pills a day...600mg each. I've recently been told by (family and friends) that this is a dangerous amount I'm on and they're worried. I do have a doctor appointment scheduled but my doctor left the practice and I'm having to start over with a new one. My previous dr NEVER discussed anything about this drug. She kept telling me to up the dosage until my back felt better.
Well, my back pain has all but disappeared. I'm hearing so many bad things about this med and I'm actually thinking this med might be contributing to my career struggle. I write for a living, and coincidentally around the time I started this medication I began having trouble writing or being creative.
What is a good alternative to Gabapentin? I want to stop this med but I'm so afraid of all the pain coming back and suffering once again. Has anyone else had a similar situation? Did you find a better med for back pain?

The safe amount for you is up to you and your doctor. This is not an opiate, and it is often taken in much higher amounts, if helps someone with pain, or seizures.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes.
Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your doctor for advice regarding your distraction and concentration issues?
