Gabapentin Causing A Metallic Taste In Mouth (Page 2) (Top voted first)

I recently started taking gabapentin to alleviate nerve pain from fibromyalgia, but now I am having a metal taste in my mouth and all the teeth brushing in the world doesn't stop it. I am also eating myself out of house and home with this med.... anyone else have this problem, and if so, how do I stop it?

I was taking it for chronic cough also. Didn't like side effects so tapered off 2 months ago & still have that awful taste in mouth.

I want to take it as needed for nerve pain for a pinched nerve in my neck and I have to seem nasty taste in my mouth I don't know how to get rid of it guess I have to stop taking the medicine but how long before it goes away?

I also have the bad taste that metal taste is horrible. However I do not eat my house out of house and home I am just the opposite I cannot eat because of this metal taste

I used to be on Gabapentin for hot flashes but did it last? No! The metallic taste will go away in a week. Just wait & see.

I was taking gabapentin but stopped but still having the metal taste. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Mine's been going for about 2 months.

My dr just started me on a higher dose(400mg) and I can’t sleep and I have a nasty taste in my mouth.
Should I contact my dr right away?

THC helped with my nerve pain, even when I am not using it. Gabapentin helped, but it made me feel like I was dying & if I skipped a dose the nerve pain came right back.
If they tell you lyrica has fewer side effects they’re LYING.

has anyone been able to get their taste and smell back to normal after discontinuing the medication i cannot eat everything smells and tastes so bad. i stopped the medicine weeks ago

I took Gabapentin my tongue swelled up real big it wouldn't stay in my mouth and whenever it went down I had a weird taste in my mouth and it's been a long time since I've been on it and the taste is still there

I was on gabapentin (300 mg 3x day) and stopped due to other side effects. Even tho I had a problem with taste I did not think it was the meds. Started going to a Pain specialist and he put me back on but only at (100 mg at bedtime) I have been on for 2 nights and today that metallic taste came back. I did not attribute it to the gabapentin when I was on it before, Now I know for sure and I am stopping it.

Yes, you're right. You don't get to enjoy any taste at all. Tried that MetaQil Mouth Rinse and did not work at all. I feel so miserable so I will stop it now.

I'm trying to reduce gabapentin. Been on 600 mg every 4 hrs for 4 yrs. decided to taper off when burning became unbearable about 2 months ago. My pcp gave me Lexapro BUT my vision blurred & became more nausious & anxious. 69 & feel doomed

My doctor prescribed Gabapentin because I am Menopausal at 47, isn'tthat a laugh? I have the same metallic taste. I am also on Warfarin, Dilantin, Omeprazole, Meclizine, Isosorbide, Fluoxetine, Gabapentin, Atorvastatin & Tylenol 3 w/ codeine. The Tylenol 3 is for my Fibromyalgia pain but I take it at night. Can the metallic taste in my mouth be dangerous because of any risk factors that I have? Thank you.

I had a harder time with Gabapentin withdrawals than any of the times I stopped taking opiates long term.

Wean yourself down SLOWLY, take it at night when you take it, adding magnesium helped me A LOT.

I hated Gabapentin and lyrica was even worse idk why that company tells doctors that there are less side effects with Lyrica.

I started using medical cannabis and it actually helps the nerve pain unless I don’t use it for weeks, then it comes back. With Gabapentin it came back as soon as I skipped a dose.

Phew relieved to hear this. I was starting to think hip replacement was leaching into system.
