Been taking doctor prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain for 2 months. I take 2 300mg before bed as it makes me too sleepy and off balance during the day. I am very concerned about internal organ damage. How much water need I drink to flush this drug out of my body quickly? I would appreciate as much information about this as possible. Thank you for your time and reply.

Hello, Okji! How are you?

Water will not help it to process faster, it will still retain the same half-life as always. The trick for kidney health, however, is to make sure you drink enough fluids to keep your kidneys functioning properly and to see your doctor immediately, if you notice any change in urine volume, have difficulty urinating, experience pain or burning while urinating or any other unusual symptoms.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and weight gain.

Do you have a diagnosed kidney problem?
