Gabapentin And Wine?

Is it ok to drink wine while taking this medication?

No. Alcohol will only add to the rapid heart beat associated with this drug, and shortness of breath and general feelings of discomfort will follow. Gabapentin is useful in small doses for peripheral neuropathies and certain epilepsies, but side effects abound ~ many of which are life threatening.

I'm not sure what Jim means by many of them being life threatening.

Jim can you please post back with more precise details?

As to the problems with alcohol, it's really that it can cause an aggravation of all of the side effects, so you may feel more nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and etc. than you would otherwise.

It's not a good idea to mix alcohol with any medication. With gabapentin, it magnifies the side effects.

I take Gabapentin 100mg 3x a day. For 1 month now I have had headaches and sores on my scalp. Are the scalp sores a side effect? How should I taper off from this drug? I also take Tarceva (chemo), and BP meds.

I wouldn't recommend it. Not recommended with Lrica which is the same compound of Neurontin and gabepeten.
Many side efects are per person. Lets say you have short term memory loss. Will magnify that. I am not a docer but have been on gabby for over 5 years at 3,500 mgs a day.

It might be your chemo meds since they are a lot stronger than pain killers. Look up the side effects of that and ask your doctor if it might be another medication not related towards Gabapentin.
