G E Simvastatin 40mg

I've been taking Simvastatin 40 mg for a year and my cholesterol in below normal for my age and weight (130). Can I quit taking it cold turkey or do I need to ease off of it gradually? The only side effect I've had is the joint pain and not much energy.

Hi pete,

Although Simvastatin can be cold-turkeyed, I would still urge you to let your doctor know before you stop taking it, since I have read a few reports of terrible leg cramping and cardiac problems a couple weeks after stopping it.

Everyone reacts differently, so there's no telling whether or not you'd even be likely to experience such symptoms. But if you want to play it safe you can always taper down by taking a fraction of the dose over a period of a couple weeks or so.

Has anyone else here had success in stopping this medication? Any additional advice from personal experience would be greatly appreciated!
