The box I have of furitex brand nitrofurantoin 100mg that has been given to me for my uti while I'm visiting Mexico doesn't say what dose to take or if it is dual release or regular... How can I tell and should I take two a day or 4?

Hello Hannah,

After doing some research I found a gov webpage that states the dosages should be only taken as prescribed by the doctor and that the dosages may vary from case to case so there is no suggested dosage. With this in mind I don't think it's a very wise decision to be making guesses or just trusting your safety to strangers on the internet.

In this case I would suggest two things in the following order. First if you have the option to do so, I would recommend getting a hold of the doctor who prescribed the medication to you or the pharmacy that filled your prescription as both parties should have documentation stating the dosages recommended by the doctor. If you don't have access to either of these then your best bet would be to meet up with a doctor that is available to have them assess your situation and then give you instructions on how you should be administering your medication.

I know this isn't exactly convenient but you really don't want to leave this sort of thing to chance and just hope it all works out. There are very serious side effects associated with overdosing on this medication.

I hope this helps. Have a great day.
