Fumaderm Drug Information

What is Fumaderm? What are its side effects? Is it better to take than Soraitain or Methatrexate?

Hi,
I've been on Fumaderm for around two months now and have found the results really good. I still have small patches here and there but the majority has cleared up.
I havent tried Soraitain or Methatrexate, but I used to be on Cyclosporin, which I didnt like as it lowered my immune system and I always felt generally unwell and couldnt shake off a cold for weeks!

The side effects are less if you slowly build up the dose, I took one 'initial' tablet for a week, then two for two weeks before going up to one 'blue' tablet per day which I've been on now for almost 5 weeks.
I have had some side effects but nearly as bad as some others I've heard of. The main one is flushing, which can be quite severe but I found that it was worse when the dose increased but then wore off after about a week, I still get the occasional one but not nearly as bad and it only last about ten minutes.
I've had a few 'tummy' problems, the only way I can describe it is like my 'gut' filling with air, feeling bloated for a while, but again this only lasts about ten minutes and becomes less frequent as I continued the treatment.
I had two occasions where I had to rush to the loo, but this was one per day for two days and I felt fine the rest of the time.

My advice would be to give it a go but make sure you slowly build up the dose, and dont give up at the first sign of aside effect as it does wear off.

Hi. i#m new to yhis site. Basically, we have a 9 year old girl who has severe placque psoriasis. We#ve done topical creams, light treatment ( made it worse). We are now at tablet stage. Doc suggested metotrixate. On investigation. with side effects, we said no. he now suggests Fumaderm. There is no info on effects on kids this young. Looking for advise and opinions. Tks

I used to take fumaderm which was fab for my psoriasis but came of it as I want to start a family. Do you have any guidelines on how long my sytem needs to be drug free before I conceive?

It has come back with a vengance so I would love to start again. Does anyone know the safe answer?

Hi guys, there are lots of myths about this drug. Fact is it is very effective in most patients, safe and non-toxic and has been around for many years. Our own body produces fumaric acids all the time and this is the reason why it was discovered. The pharmaceutical industry has no interest in selling or promoting this effective drug because they want you as a long term client buying their emollients and other drugs knowing psoriasis is not a dangerous disease. Side effects are usually gastrointestinal and not serious or harmful and patients with skin flush seem to have greater benefit (maybe this is how it works). My wife has taken this drug for over thirty years regularly since childhood, never had any problems whatsoever but definitely gets worse without it. Don't forget that dermatologists might know less about this condition than you do as the affected patient and please do not listen to second hand advice from secretaries or cleaners etc working in dermatology practices.

I'm in my 5th week of fumaderm and had no side effects other than a bit of bloating and flushing. But my psoriasis seems to be getting worse. Is this normal?

I have been taking 6 full strength tablets of Fumaderm a day and I am on week 12 but seeing very little improvement. I have not had any new flare-ups but the old patches just seem the same. I'm beginning to panic that it's not going to work for me!
