Fulvestrant And Belviqside

I have stage IV breast cancer. After being unable to control cancer with different endocrine therapy my oncologist put me on Fulvestrant. The main problem that I have had is joint pain that has been made worse because of history of arithis. I have gained a considerable amount of weight (25 lb) which has made joint pain worse. My general practitioner put me on Belviq to help lose some weight. I am unsure if I should take it even though she said it wouldn't interfere with Fulvertrant. In the past my oncologist wouldn't discuss any weight control options even though he is aware of joint pain. His solution was to eat less and exercise more. I exercise 3 times a week in therapeutic pool and eat healthy. I really don't want to up pain medication. I believe weight loss would help joint pain. Is there anything else out there that won't interfere with Fulvestrant.

Hello, Patti! How are you? I'm sorry about your medical issues and I hope you become cancer free very soon!

It's actually not the Fulvestrant that causes a problem with Belviq, it's breast cancer. Belviq can elevate prolactin levels in some women that take it and about a third of human breast cancers are prolactin responsive. Thus, it's generally not recommend for someone with breast cancer, or who has previously had breast cancer.

That's likely why your oncologist wasn't recommending a medication for weight loss, many of them are risky and may aggravate your condition, or cause new medical issues.

Does anyone have experience with this and know what might help?
