Food Intolerances After Taking Methylprednisolone Dose Pack
UpdatedIt has been a terrible 4 weeks after taking the dose pack, and I am slowly getting back to my normal self (not there yet). I have now developed in tolerances to certain foods... itchy mouth, throat, etc. I now carry benedryl with me at all times, and have been prescribed an EpiPen. I've never even had pollen allergies in my entire life... now this? I'm afraid to eat!!! Has anyone else developed food intolerences/alergies after taking prednisone? I am still dealing with other side effects as well.

Hello, Lisa! How are you?
No, that isn't something that usually happens from taking this medication, according to the FDA, so that's very unusual. People sometimes discover they are allergic to the medication itself and may experience symptoms such as swollen throat, hives, and trouble breathing.
There is no way to predict how anyone will react to any given medication, since we are all different, but there is a chance that it has also just occurred naturally, since our bodies do change with time, as we age.
What other side effects are you having problems with?
Turns out that the dose pack has caused ovary failure, and my allergies are due to a sudden drop of estrogen, (menopausal allergies) which is causing stress on my adrenals.... My FSH was at 129.5, and my OB believe's since my FSH jumped that high so quickly, that I'm in adrenal fatigue... it's going to take much more time for my adrenals to become less stressed, and to recover...
The dose pack had completely changed my life...
I am developing more and more allergies... I'm not sure WHAT I'm allergic to, now. Foods I ate yesterday, I can't eat today. I see my allergist on Monday, and I will set up an appointment with an Endo. I believe that the pack, even though I took it for only 5 days, had caused adrenal fatigue, causing the lack of cortisol and too much histamine... I just hope my adrenals will recover; BEFORE I run out of things I can eat!! (And... WITHOUT medication!!!)
How long is it before methlyprednisolone starts working. So far I have only one dose do I need I couple of times. I have sinus and ear prpblems and I took the first fose two hours ago. I dont feel any different.
I feel your pain!! I have been off the meds for 4 weeks and the worst of the side effects are lingering on. Of the many side effects I experienced, the smell and taste of food was major. My laundry detergent made me want to hurl. I have read on these posts that side effects can last anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months. That gives me a little hope! I wish I had never taken it to begin with.
Mayhem. It has been 3 1/2 months for me, since my last pill. My immune system is on overdrive, causing many food alergies (I had zero allergies before). I just came back from an immunologist, and she said it happens, that an immune system can go on overdrive. She did give me hope, saying that it should normalize again, although it could take months. Right now, I'm eating meat, potatos, rice, veggies, eggs and milk. I am even having allergic reactions to tap water and bottled water. I am also still dealing with nausea and lightheadedness. It took 2 1/2 to 3 months for my heartrate and BP to get back to normal.
Good luck on your recovery...
I have a rash all over my body, probably is an allergic reaction.I will try to go to the doctor tomorrow, thank you for answering me.
