Flonase And Cataracts (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Has anyone that has used Flonase got cataracts? I have them because of it and nasonex. Are there any class actions against the makers of this? I would not have used it if I had known.

Has anyone had problems with light flashes and floaters in their eyes? I recently developed light flashes and spider web floaters in my left eye. My Doctor can't find any problems with torn or detached retina. I feel that it's being caused by the use of Flonase. I've not had problems with cataracts, yet.

Why in the world is there not a class action lawsuit???

There was a class action suit, several years back. I only just found out about the connection between the Flonase and Cataract on the morning following my second eye surgery. And I asked my doctor if this was an inherent issue because I wasn't a steroid user. He quickly told me it was my Flonase, that I had been taking for years. No one had ever told me that.

I also rapidly developed cataracts after taking Flonase. I had no idea why they had occurred until after the surgery. I have always had low vision in my 'good eye' and I was always legally blind in the other. After Flonase it was too hard to hide my vision impairment. I was fired from my decade long accounting job literally when I asked for time off for cataract surgery. (I managed the company's bank accounts)

LMK about a law suit. I am in. The drug company totally screwed me and my family financially. Now after surgery, I can barely read because I have a lens that does not focus.

Flonase. Don't use it.

Have the doctors definitively tied your cataracts to the medications?

We have had other posts on here about vision issues developing from people using these types of medications.

The problem, however, is proving they are what caused it.

And no, I'm sorry, but I know of no class action suits in regards to this.

I am 38 years old and recently diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. My eye doctor told me the kind I have are also from steroids. The only steroid I have ever used in my life is Flonase. I used it recently for 4 months after tear duct surgery. I am devastated. I think I was left on Flonase for entirely too long. I wonder if there is anything I can do legally??

Yes, I was just diagnosed with cataracts yesterday after a routine yearly eye exam. It is apparently due to the use of Fluticasone Propionate (generic Flonase). I started using the nasal spray in October, but not continually since then. Used for 1 week and then as needed once per day after that. I am 57 and thought I was too young to get cataracts. My doctor, who is a specialist, told me that cataracts can occur even after just 2 uses. He asked me if I had any head or eye trauma and I told him that I had not, so then he asked about the use of steroids.

I noticed some fuzziness in the right eye vision. During my eye exam, when they test each eye separately, everything I saw with the right eye was fuzzy. The left eye is showing slight signs of cataracts. He said I will need cataract surgery. He did say that the pamphlet that comes with steroid does say that it can cause glaucoma and/or cataracts. It does say that, but my doctor never mentioned it. I am afraid to use any more nasal spray. I don't know what the effect is after cataract surgery. I will have to have that conversation with my doctor. I guess it just goes to show that we have to ask a million questions before we use anything and make a decision from there. Having anything done to my eyes just scares the hell out of me!!

Those drugs aren't aggravating or causing cataracts because they are allergy meds. They cause them because they are corticosteroids! I've already known the connection, have been told I'm starting to get them and my bone density is lower than it ahould be. I'd like to preserve what I have left of my sight and bones without surgery or those nasty bone density drugs, that really dont' help. I told the dr. Thanks, but no thanks. My antihistamine/decongestant tablet works just fine. (Wal-act, at Walgreens. Might need a Rx for it, depending on your stste laws, though)

Me too. I have used Flonase off/on since it came out on the market. I have never heard about causing cataracs and I am pretty upset. I had one catarac left eye removed 2 yrs ago. In Sept 2016.I went to eye dr to get eyes cheched. Right catarac not too bad. I have fall allergies with a warmer fall I used eryday. In Dec 206 my right catarac terribly worsened Eye Dr said. Had it removed March 2017. Went back 30 after eye check. Now I have a catarc forming on back of right eye and eye does not always focus now per it did it during exam, so im unsure the outcome yet. I am suppose to get rechecked after 6 weeks if it is still unable to focus.

I HAD TO GO UNDER SURGERY FOR BOTH EYES AND I WAS 49. IT WAS HORRIBLE BECAUSE THEY ONLY DO ONE EYE AT A TIME, SO 3 MONTHS OF HELL. PLUS I NEVER WAS TOLD FLONASE CAUSED CATARACTS--MY EYE DOCTOR ASKED ME DID YOU EVER USE FLONASE? I SAID YES, FOR YEARS. SHE TOLD ME MY CATARACTS WERE FORMED BECAUSE OF THAT!!!!

I took Flonase daily this year, and noticed each time I sprayed it, I got a twitch in my right eye.
My eyesight rapidly got bad this summer/fall and today I met with a surgeon to get a 2-3+ sign cateract removed from my right eye.
I’m 48 years old.
