Fioricet With Codeine - Is There Anything Better
UpdatedHi! I've been taking fioricet with codeine for six years!! I started with two pills a day (along with a ton of other meds) and now I'm up to five. My dosage is at 325-30-30. This is the ONLY medicine that works and will keep my migraines at bay. They are NOT rebound headaches, I do know the difference. I'm wondering if there is something stronger or a slow release or something else that I can take so I don't feel like an addict to this medication. Because frankly I am! I can't go two days without it or one, my migraines with debilitate me and 2, I loose my cognitive functions. Any advice is welcome.

I am very sorry about your migraines, they are a horrible thing to suffer.
However, I think you may benefit from my explaining the difference between addiction and dependence.
As defined by the NIH...
Addiction results in abuse of a medication/drug, usually because someone likes that way it makes them feel, but since the way they feel is just due side effects, it usually goes away after awhile, so they keep needing to take more and more to get that high, energy, or etc., back. If an addict stops taking their drug of choice cold turkey, they may experience severe withdrawal effects, that could be life threatening.
Dependence results when your body is used to you ingesting some substance on a regular basis, be it a medication, or your morning coffee, and suddenly stopping it could result in minor withdrawal effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, chills, or diarrhea. It is not the same as addiction, if you do not abuse something, and don't exceed your doctor's dosing recommendations. They are generally not life threatening, and typically last only a week, or two.
There really aren't any prescription options that will help. If this is the one that works best for you, it might be a good idea to stick with it and just accept that you may not be addicted, just dependent.
Is there anything else I can help with?
