Updated

My doctor just told me that they are no longer going to produce this medication? Even the generic!? Is this true? Has anyone heard anything?? I have not been able to find any information on this.

Just reiterating that I am talking about Fioricet (Butalb-Acetamin-Caff) --50-325-40... My doctor said that this medication is being discontinued... Does anyone know anything?

No it's not being discontinued. Absolutely not that I know of

Just to add, I have not seen any official announcements from the FDA or manufacturer of Fioricet suggesting that it might be discontinued. That said, I'd really start questioning your doctor's motives for telling you it was being pulled off the shelves. Maybe s/he just didn't want to write for it anymore and that was their passive way of getting let off the hook, so to speak?

Nevertheless, it sounds like a new doctor may be in order if this one is willing to openly lie to his/her patients. I would also contact the manufacturer directly for a straight answer and let this physician know what they said.

Please keep us posted if things change!

Hi, I take this its the only thing that helps me with my migraines in order to actually be able to function in everyday life. I've been struggling for over a few years with Chronic Migraine and now that I have it down to 4 to 6 migraines a month this is the only thing that helps me get rid of those. I haven't heard of anything saying it will be discontinued. If your Doctor is a Neurologist, my Neurologist told me that they were informed this last December 2015 that they were told in a National Conference they are really discouraging Neurologists from prescribing this medication. I guess tons of people are supposedly getting addicted to it. A 30 day pill bottle of this lasts me for 2 1/2 to 3 months, so its obvious I'm not addicted to it according to my doctor. So they see no change for me in it. But for other people they have gotten a habit of taken it more than they should. So... I'm not sure what everyone's story is, but to simplify, I haven't heard anything from research its getting taken off the market. I sure hope not! Or I will be back to testing many different drugs again, which i've already had a ton of complications from. Which has led to some permanent problems with me from awful side effects.

I wish you the best of luck, and I recommend to find a new doctor.

I have NOT heard that! But it does not shock me , with the price going so high. How can they do that? It i s a popular, we'll known prescription that has been used for decades. I don't want to start over with some other drug, I have been done that road too many times.

My doctor is making me do that now because she refuses to prescribe it. They say too many people are getting addicted to it. Even my Neurologist doesn't want to prescribe it. So this month needless to say, has been hell for me. I've had more migraines than what I was getting, and this new stuff which is 1 of 4 medications I haven't tried yet doesn't work. No preventives work for me. And I'm so sick of how much Obama and his administration ruined this for me. I feel like my quality of life is going downhill again. They don't want people to be on disability, but yet they make it impossible for doctors to prescribe medications that help people function. I'm so incredibly mad about it.

Addicted to it? Perhaps addicted to not having such horrible pain.

I have been unable to get the generic from my mail order pharmacy for the past two months. They just keep telling me that it is "out of stock" and I can try to find another Pharmacy to fill the prescription. As this medication has worked for me for the past twenty years, I hope that this is not true.

Re: J (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I don’t know why you were told that, it’s 2023 right now and I still take this medication. My doctor told me last month that they might be having some kind of a shortage he was having trouble getting it for some of his patients, but I think he was wrong I think it was the Fiorinal the one with the aspirin instead of the acetaminophen. Either way, your doctor was wrong this medication is still available in 2023.

Re: sofy (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Maybe you should delete this since this medication was never taken off the market. It’s January 2023 and I have a bunch of it in my safe right now. But president Plump was the one that was banning medication, remember.

Re: Coley (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Sweetie, Obama wasn’t president when you were writing this post about your problem with your doctor. I’m not sure why it’s Obama’s fault that your doctor thinks that you might be a drug addict, but that’s between you and your doctor that has nothing to do with the president who was president plump at the time that you wrote this.

Re: Mimi (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

It happens, the butalbital in it is actually a barbiturate, which was commonly abused back in the 60s or 70s.

But yeah I can tell you that having chronic daily migraines is definitely worse for a person than a drug addiction to a pharmaceutical supplied by a pharmacy. The real danger of drug addiction comes when people buy their drugs illicitly because they don’t know what they’re going to get and they often can’t afford the prices. If doctors really cared about quality of life or anyone including drug addicts, they would treat peoples medical conditions. The people around here who die from fentanyl overdose‘s are usually chronic pain patients who had to buy medication illicitly and they thought they were buying Percocet.
