Fioricet Pills Should Require A Prescription

I so do not get why u can buy Fioricet WITHOUT seeing a Dr. My best friend committed suicide last year. He had OVER 800 Fioricet pills on him when he died!!! To me this is UNACCEPTABLE. He should've never been able to buy this many pills without seeing a Dr. What can I do to propose stiffer laws so this won't happen again to anyone?

In the U.S. this medication does require a prescription, it is not available over the counter. It contains a combination of Acetaminophen, Butalbital and Caffeine. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, stomach irritation, and insomnia.

Did they definitively say it was the Fioricet that caused his death? Just because he had the pills, that doesn't mean he took too many of them, but being close to him, you'd know more about that than I do.

Additionally, as sad as it is, pills can be obtained illicitly through various sources.

Among the ingredients in Fioricet, the only things available without a prescription are the Acetaminophen, and the Caffeine, though taking too much of them could also result in a fatal overdose.

I really can't imagine how you must be feeling, it is never easy to lose a loved one, and I don't want you to think I am taking that lightly. I've lost many people in my lifetime, and to this day, I still cry, when I think of them.

If you want to try to take action, you can contact the FDA at 888-463-6332. They can look into the matter and see if more regulation is needed. They have been trying to crack down and prevent people from obtaining such medications without seeing a doctor, so your information could help their efforts.

Yes they did find them n his system...He n I talked many many times bout him getting THOSE PILLS without seeing a Dr. and I did see ALL the bottles he had of them...TY TY TY 4 the info u provided... I had already looked the med up n got all the info on it but I jus can't understand how he got so many bottles of them thru the mail!!!! They also found alcohol n his system as well.... So the combo of both is what got him.... No I'm not doing well... I cry most all days... the 26th will b a year... I feel I shud have done more but he was so head strong against dying there wasn't much I cud do... I do THANK YOU 4 ASKING!!!

1st I'm sorry for your loss. You can not get Fioricet without an RX. It is a controlled substance now, that is the law. I would check by calling any pharmacy. They can tell you. Not that this matters but could your friend have bought it over the internet? If so that's a death waiting to happen. People are in so much pain and doctors are not giving out prescriptions without testing to see if it's a necessity to function every day. Again I'm very sorry for your loss, but check the laws and tell anyone and everyone never buy drugs on the internet.

Sharon, fioricet is not a controlled substance, but does require a prescription. It is not scheduled.

So basically u can get online pay a few n a Dr. Sends ur script efile or how ever n u can get a 3 month supply n b4 it's time to get a refill u get online again n talk to another dr. N the cycle goes on n on n on.... My BESTEST best friend died bc he Dr shopped on the web!!!! How can we keep this from happening again?????
