Finding Subutex Dr? (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

I am really having a hard time finding a doctor who treats with Subutex and not Suboxone. I have chronic pain syndrome and relief-seeking behavior soon became drug-seeking behavior. My psychiatrist put me on Subutex, and my pain was reduced a little, but I wasn't so much into drug seeking anymore. I was treated for 5 years. Then I moved, and I can't find anyone in Ohio who does this. I might have to move back to Chicago! Any suggestions?

I don't know one doctor who will RX xanax and subutex or Suboxone period... In PA or anywhere. They will not do it here! It is a lethal combo and the liability insurance here is extremely expensive. So much it ran my last GI doc outta the state. So my advice, give up the xanax! It's not gonna happen. Not in PA anyways. And really, I used to be on lots of xanax before and it is a b****, the worst drug to kick and is gonna suck bad, but it's worth it cause you will find out that after its all done and over, you never even needed it to begin with. Xanax is a drug that is completely in the wrong schedule. It has the most potential for abuse than any other drug and should be a schedule 2 not 4. Good news is that once you kick it, you never think of it again like opiates. It's one drug you will never be interested in again. But it is not an easy ride and is not gonna happen if you are not strong and wanting to mk a change. So I guess you need to figure out which one is the most important xanax or subutex.

I am not sure where you are getting information that Suboxone is NOT available generic....I have been on generic Suboxone for 2.5 years so even though this reply is 18 months later, it was available when you posted, and may help another. I have taken both generic and brand Suboxone and can state factually it is absolutely, exactly as pain meds and brand is remarkably better in several ways....it works faster, lasts longer, I can take smaller doses and brand actually makes me much calmer and focused where generic sometimes makes me feel agitated and depressed. As someone who became a raging addict to pain meds after a back injury with no insurance and waiting 2.5 years for state paid surgery, it was unavoidable that I would be addicted....and knowing there is Subutex out there without the Naloxone scares the crap out of me. I will NEVER go back to the hell and torture of addiction and anyone contemplating Subutex so they know they can sneak or indulge whenever with the old life is risking everything. Suboxone manages....MANAGES the pancreatic pain I have from years of alcohol abuse used to get through monthly, clockwork WD throughout my addiction and even knowing I could take the pain away completely by taking narcs or Subutex AND narcs, it isn't worth the hell. I understand and appreciate those with specific complications, but to those others....grow up....life is life, learn to deal with the tough times. Though my pharmacy (CVS) continues to treat me no different than a common street crack addict, I am stable, finished college and actually own "things" of value..... instead of having sold everything just for my next Rx. Since being on Suboxone I have only rarely romanticized the old days of opiate fog....for the most part I do not think about them and so do not crave them. We don't always get what we want....but if we realize we're getting what we need, that can be enough.

I am sure by now you've gotten an answer to your question, but if you are severely allergic to naloxone, and can only be rx'd subutex, then the doctor has to have documentation of your "allergic response" not to be confused with "adverse effects". An allergic response is like anaphylaxis, a severe allergy. A headache, slight raise in bp, and nausea are not allergic responses and are not considered a legitimate reason for being prescribed buprenorphine (subutex) instead of a combo drug. I just went back to my doc's office after being gone for a year. The last time I was there, my doc was rx'ing me four 8 mg Subutex per day for addiction and off-label use for pain for Crohn's disease. In a year, so many new policies had been implemented that even in my case, and being very familiar with him and everyone in the office, the most he could do for me as a new patient was two 8 mg SUBOXONE tabs a day without emergency room documentation, or valid proof of ALLERGIC REACTION documentation, to naloxone. Even severe nausea, raised bp, and severe headache was not considered an allergic reaction. Now, if I were to experience severe enough adverse effects after taking the SUBOXONE tabs he prescribed, I have the option of making an appt, driving all the way there at the time they opened, taking my daily dose in front of someone, wait for two hours, and over the course of two hours, have my bp taken in fifteen minute intervals, vitals, and have a staff member document witnessed side effects after dosing, and only after the doctor has reviewed these symptoms and makes a decision of whether the side effects are severe enough to "deem" you "allergic" to naloxone, will they take in consideration switching the rx to Subutex. Only current patients that were previously rx'd subutex and pregnant women are the ones who get subutex, and that has been the issue everywhere I've inquired about within the last year in PA. It seems to be a trend or a new law or something to decrease the frequency of Subutex rx's, especially in addiction based clinics, because technically, Subutex's intended label use is for treating addiction in pregnant women, lactating women, or others with documented ALLERGIES to naloxone. However, if you are able to find a doctor who is willing to rx Subutex as an OFF-LABEL USE for pain, ANY DOCTOR WITH A RX PAD can write you a script for SUBUTEX for OFF-LABEL USE! ANY DOCTOR! The difference is that Suboxone (bup and naloxone combo drugs) have no off-label uses, not even for pain management. It is strictly for treating addiction! However, Buprenorphine (Subutex) has been proven to show positive reactions in treating patients with moderate to severe pain, but has not been approved by the FDA as an intended use, but can be done so by off-label usage and there is no regulations against doing so. Read up on it at naabt.org under that education tab. So, if you go to an addiction clinic, in PA anyways, and expect to get Subutex, especially with any type of insurance coverage that pays for the pills, your chances of getting it without being pregnant or documentation of allergy to naloxone, are very very grimmmmm especially being a new patient. Sure, there are tons of clinics taking new patients at this time, but only for SUBOXONE scripts! But, if you do, in fact, have as severe an allergy to naloxone as you mentioned, obtaining proven documentation that will ensure you a Subutex script shouldn't be that difficult. Make an appt with a suboxone clinic, even if they say they do not rx tex, tell them that you've had severe allergic reaction to naloxone in the past and that you want set up for an appt to go through the process of documentation, they'll write you a rx for suboxone, you'll go in and do the steps, and once they have seen it with their own eyes, they HAVE to write the script! Good luck!

You CAN go once a month in PA, however you must go to counseling and it costs same as every 2 weeks. Ex: $80/2wks or $160/monthly. So it really doesn't save you $$ in any way. But that's just my experience.

well i personally would rather subutex because its cheaper based on the fact it does not contain naloxone. also, suboxone is DISGUSTING. it taste like on old orange rind peel off the bottom of a dirty shoe, its hard to stomach. subutex it so much easier to keep down because it is just a pill.

Perhaps I'm wrong and I welcome correction, but I've read that both Subutex and Suboxone are not approved in the US for pain relief. In Europe subutex is used for analgesia and has also been found to be a potent anti-deppressant.

GAGELLE: I found that my headaches from Suboxone were from the naloxone. My doctor immediately switched me to Subutex, without the naloxone, and the headaches got better. BUT...I was already a migraine sufferer when I started bupe, so that may have been a factor as well.
