Finding A Doctor Who Will Prescribe Pain Medication

I had been on hydrocodone for approximately 13 years until I had to change doctors. My new doctor didn't believe in pain medication. I have been off hydrocodone for nearly 3 years and my pain is getting really bad again. One doctor prescribed Tramadol but now that is a narcotic and the doctor will not prescribe it anymore. I suffer from fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, scoliosis, myofacial pain and I can't believe none of my doctors will prescribe me something for pain. The pain is constant and I frequently have headaches and sleep problems every night. I seriously need something for the pain--ibuprofen doesn't due a damn thing. I live in Upstate NY and would love assistance with this.

Go back to your former doctor. Doctors now are not willing to continue to prescrib meds that help to alleviate pain, especially for those of us who have chronic pain and will for the rest of our lives. I know, I need oxycodone for pain from 8 operations in less than 1.5 years and chronic osteoarthritis, which is mainly all over my body.

Actually, the DEA has put new restrictions in place that make it more difficult for general practitioners and surgeons to prescribe medications to treat long-term chronic pain. This was done due to concerns about improper prescribing and over prescribing.

Thus, to really get the help either of you need, you'll need to see a pain management specialist.

And the best thing to do is to set up an appointment with them, but don't ask ahead of time if they'll prescribe any specific medication, since doctors are taught to see that as drug seeking behavior.

Once you have an appointment, make sure that they get a full copy of your current medical records. In many cases, if they can see the updated testing information, as well as what medications have and haven't worked for you in the past, as documented by a fellow physician, they will usually be more prone to prescribe accordingly.

As to the Tramadol, if your doctor told you it was a narcotic, they were incorrect as it is not classified as one. You can see the information on it at the following link:

i have been on methadone for pain for 13 yrs my doctor retired now they just want to stop the medication i dont know were to turn to it took 15 yrs to finally find something that worked i dont know what to do i know there has to be doctors just dont know how to find one i live in vestal ny 13850 if there is anyone who can help i would really apprieciate it i am sick already and in pain and am scared i really need help i need my medication it is wrong having to worry like this i cant function and do what i need to due to being sick

@pskitty Did u ever find a doctor in upstate NY to prescribe anything for your pain ? As I've been in this same situation with my terrible pain and since I had to move from NJ here to Upstate NY I've had a lot of trouble getting my meds ! I'm in pain due to serios injuries from a car accident yrs ago and have MANY issues now which I won't get into all but know it's REAL ! I just want to know if you did find anyone or ANYONE ELSE CAN HELP ? Please respond anyone in upstate NY who can help me ! whatever you do, do not stop methadone cold. My Dr did that to me and I hit ER with 180/164 bp. It almost killed me.
