Finasteride Weight Gain (Page 6) (Top voted first)

I have been taking finasteride for about two years now, and it seems to me that I have developed increased abdominal flab. Thankfully, no breast development (yet!), but I definitely feel an increase in size around my waist and below. The literature available suggests that weight gain is not a side effect [1]; however, it appears to me that it might be, as I have gained about 7 to 8 pounds. I would be interested in hearing about others' experiences in this regard. Thank you.

HI I ALSO GAIN WEIGHT ON FINASTERIDE .stopped taken 3 months ago changed nothing else in diet ,lost 9 pounds .am taking pumpkin seed oil 1000 mg .working better than drug.am drug free now.wounder why doctor did not tell me.larry

I agree. I started to gain belly fat and tender enlarged boobs within a few months after taking finasteride, with no other changes.

Saw my urologist today for yearly check up..Had ultra sound and all was good except tiny stone in left kidney..I told him what had happened..Since stopping finasteride and he just laughed his ass off pretty much..Said i just needed to cut calories and maybe finasteride had slowed my metabolisim..

Yeah coming up on a year off the med now and i am like a different person..My body is wrecked and no sign of change..About to just give up on it..

Been reading several body building sites and are way more knowledgeable about dht than any of these *****s that are prescribing finasteride..I have been told now that blocking dht is the last thing any healthy male would want..Effects of blocking dht..Fatigue, Depression, increase in body fat, irritability, lack of strength, etc..It makes you feel like s*** basically and not like a man..And these guys experiment with hormones and testosterone all the time and know the effects..Dht plays a big role in body's metabolic effects and storing of body fat..U have f****d up big time taking this junk..And if not predisposed to male balding all the dht in the world won't do anything to your hair and is very beneficial to overall health and well-being..

I have been taking finasteride 5 mg for a year now. Belly fat is about 5 to 7 lbs more now. No matter how much I exercise, it doesn't even begin to recede. Hate it and I'll talk to doc. Believe it is due to lower testo levels associated with the prostate inactivity. Any comments?

I have been told by a victim of this s*** as well that the drug clomiphene helps tremendously with symptoms.

Rather be thinning than fat. That's why I quit taking the horrible drug. If you're a man shave your head and stop taking it. If you're a woman... even worse... stop taking and buy a hair piece rather than gaining weight that you can never lose.

I have been taking 1mg per day religiously for the past 13 years starting when I was about 35. I have been exercising like crazy and and eating right to keep the fat and 'moobs' off, and have been successful, but it has been a lot of work. I can't indulge in alcohol or dessert or my mid section diameter increases, particulary around the muffin top waist area. Recently, I was on a beach holiday following a stressful time at work, and shocked when my partner took a photo of me in the water as I was the heaviest I have ever been in my life, and have now gone on the paleo diet to lose the weight. Sure fat comes and goes depending on cardio and when I don't eat right, but I have noticed when I run out of finasteride for a while, things get better by themselves and my workouts become more effective. I imagine if I went off it for a few months I could return to a more normal lifestyle.

I have been taking fin, about a month for hair loss, have gained 5 pounds in midsection, fat hanging over pants! Awful... I am Done!

Update here..Continuing to worsen guys..Up to 191lbs now while uping my running some and same diet..Just continue to get larger all over..Hips, back, arms, chest..Got a refferal to and Endo..They won't even see me..Said I needed labs and my Dr said they can't do all that hormone testing..And the endo won't do it or see me without some kind of diagnosis or labs to show..So outta luck..Talked to Dr goldstein in Cali and they and few other drs recognize the condition but would have to fly 3,000 miles out there..Seems there is not much hope or help with these physical after effects..

Strange you never hear back from a lot of these people over the course of years and months about their status..I assume some may have committed suicide..This stuff is serious..A lot of folks have killed their self..

Update** Continuing to decline folks..Worsening conditions including even less energy..Tried to run this morning, made it 2 miles instead of my usual 3.1.. Used to be 5.25. I ran 4 to 5 times a week..Weight now up 40lbs! Around 198lbs..I hate to say this but feel I could be in the last stage of my life...My physical condition and well being has declined at a rate and now to point that I would have never believed or accepted in my life before..It's un-real and I believe now this condition is a life threatening condition for some people with these drastic physical and mental side effects..Seems nothing can be done to even improve the condition for us let alone reverse it..So I would think you would eventually not be able to function or death would result even if you didn't commit suicide as it just continues to worsen. I am afraid to try anything else or drugs as some have said you get even worse..About out of hope..

Finasteride is the only reason I have gained over 10lbs in 6weeks. I am a super fit 33 year old man who has been the same weight for over 8 years.. Yet within 6 weeks of taking this drug I am ashamed of my body. Not much point having a fine head of hair if you have a big fat podgy belly. I also had regular headaches too. Enough is enough, it's time to accept a balding head in the interests of staying fit and healthy.

Hopfully u stopped in time and the condition will reverse..You should see the weight come off and massive hair shed in 3 to 4 months..Mine did the first time on gerneic proscar..However if in a few months if your weight continues to worsen and hair stays you have got pfs..
