The guy was real nice said yes i have your methadone and 30 mg oxycodone, for 480 methadone he wanted 380.00 you read that right 380 bucks and then it came to the oxycodone 8.50 a pill i get 180, i told him i have insurance cash only. i said how can you justify charging that much i am in pain and you are price galjing and he told me that is the price and he does not make a dime on it, he went on to say the manufacturer set the price, i got mad and said i wish you the pain i go through every day, and if you were in a gutter on fire i would not pee on you to put it out lol. so i go to my dr office and she was very understanding and wrote me something to get my head on straight as my blood pressure was stroke level and i have had many heart attacks, went across the street and low and behold wallgreens had my dones 54 bucks out the door but no oxies or k-8 but at this point i feel blessed to have my methadone.

Esp elderly and those w/not so good health as blood pressure lowers etc..Can anyone enlighten me as to what is going on and will this lift? This is as insane as the NDAA law just signed W/O our knowing of that either. hmmmm

Very very good post! Again i say i thought Dr oath was to "do no harm"-I said how many ppl already did illegal hitting streets and just made some drug dealer rich w/all the unfilled LEGIT SCRIPTS-who wants to go to streets when u hv a legit script? You sure said it. I've been treated like a criminal b/c I live both in NJ and still PA-my doc in PA and I won't leave him. was w/other docs 18yrs-I am w/him now 6?I stick w/my docs and even pharmacy except sometimes if I can't take that hour drive b/c 1nce my son was sick I chose to go here in N and they made me wait till 31st day! How do you ensure ur scripts are filled in if on that 30th day, they are out, when you should be able to fill at least 3days ahead, car cld break down....they hv got to change this and stop "harming patients" DO NO HARM! Sounds like class action law suit to me. everyone shld keep names, dates., how many pharmacies you had to run to, did you withdrawl, get sick, end up in ER and I pray that's it. I HOPE was being a bit sarcastic about hitting streets, but don't put past some,b/c I sure don't want to suffer and at same time, oh ooops now u can go to JAIL. Isn't that nice? WOW. This is America? really? Good luck everyone!! God Bless and help all of us.

there are a few Walgreens that will fill your script! we got lucky and found a Pharmacists that charges what they are suppose to be. But that was looking a few months of frustration of going to every Pharmacy in the area not calling, but walking inside because they will not tell you if they have them or not over the phone.

you can print out a FREE RX Card online that Walgreens uses. we pay $135 for 210 with the card.

I had a Walgreens Pharmacist tell me well I have them in stock but I "choose" not to fill them for you!
Been with Walgreens for over 10 years and taking the same meds for just as long.

Nice piece, bravo, so true and disgusting!!!! I really feel for you! I am going through the same BS. Bottom line the pharmacists have way to much authority. If a person has a legitimate Dr. & script, the pharmacist should simply fill it.He should have no say so on what a Dr. gives us!!! They simply have to much power and it needs to be rectified. They think they are God!!! Hope things get better for you and all of us that are in pain.

It stink but the Pharmasist has the right to refuse to fill any prescription they want and some of them get a God complex when they dont even know what you're suffering from. They look at everone as if were all drug addicts.

I currently reside in TN and have been with a pain management clinic for a few years after a failed 360 lumbar fusion with 2 cages, screws and rods. I have never had a problem with filling my scripts (120 30mg Roxi and 90 20mg Opana) in TN. Recently I went to Fl where I have family and am considering making a move for financial reasons. My surgeon in TN referred me to a surgeon in Ft Myers to see since i was going to be there for a couple of months and may make a move. I did not see my PM Dr for February since I was going to see the new Dr so I would not have an issue with my Ins filling my scripts. The Drs spoke beforehand so all was legit!!! The new Dr whom i like very much, wrote me the same prescriptions I get back home and i went to several pharmacies to fill with scripts, records, and even in my full body brace and walker- but was told they were out. No one told me anything negative, just that they were out. I do not drive and only have a passport which is what i use in Tn to fill. I am now heading back to TN for my Dr to exchange for TN scripts. My question to any others in FL, Is this problem an ongoing one even for regulars? I can get a Fl ID if I need to but I may have to rethink a move if I am going to be left in pain simply becuase I live in what appears to be a pro-pain state-

It is insane. There is a better way to catch the pill heads. And it doesn't involve punishing us! Where in TN are you? Which clinic do you use?

You know i really feel bad for you guys down there, Its a shame that people who do not have pain screw it up for the ones who really do need those. I have read the reason you guys are having problems getting oxycodone and oxycontin are because of those quick fast pain clinics writing for people who dont need them and for people who drive to florida from all these other states trying to get them so they can sell them, So now the DEA and state officals are making it hard to get those because they are being so highly abused in Florida. Those people have made a bad name for the state of Florida. I truly wish it were different so the people who need them can get them;

Donna , thanks for the advice . Do you or anyone else know anything about "Express Scripts " and their home delivery that i was enquiring about ? Or mail order pharmacies ? Also , i was reading what Jill said about places like Publix that say they "don't have, don't know when they're going to get, etc."...I may be naive but is that not true ? My guy @ Publix and a few others I've used in the past plus a few walgreens pharmacists have said they're not able to get, etc. and i always thought it was strange how some places can get/find yet others in the same can't ..so it's bs ?

Unless there is another Leah, something is wrong w/the site . I didn't ask about a Dr in Tenn..? Also, I keep getting responses to "my" post , but it's not mine...its legalscritoxy ...about filling in Bradenton or Sarasota ..I'm new in Ocala and fill my rx here from my dr's sister clinic in Orlando ..I'd ask if anyone knows a place in that county but even a mom & pop pharmacy I called told me they wouldn't be able to fill an rx from Orlando if I didn't live in Orlando !! Is it just them or would walgreens say the same ? This is all so awful for those of us who really need our medicine ! I've had to drive back to Miami to my Dr there and my pharmacy/pharmacist there !! I CAN'T KEEP doing that !! Omgosh. Any advice gang ?

If you reject 75% of the people who come in seeking oxycodone you do that by simple observation. How do you know what is going on inside their bodies. i currently know a 12 year old with stage 3 cancer that looks just fine. As for your comments on what is proper pain care you are taking on the role of doctor. If you do know more than the doctor then we just need to come see you and leave the doctor out. Why dont you tell the whole story, CVS pharmacist get a bonus. Any customer can ask for the number to complain. If enough people complain about the service you get no bonus. Finally, I have cancer. No one knows this because I look healthy, If i become forceful you will get me blacklisted. You are a vengeful person and I have no sympathy for you.

These posts are really funny... The best part is the people who ALWAYS start off by saying how "legit" their pain is lol... They always feel the need to start their post by saying "I HAVE HAD 500 BACK SURGERIES" or "I FELL OUT OF A 20 STORY BUILDING AND LANDED ON CONCRETE"... Its like you are so desperate to say how real your situation is that it actually comes off as fake... My father has been on 15mg Oxycodone for about 5 years and Oxycodone/Percocet for over 10 years... He is prescribed 120 15mg's every single month which accumulates to 4 pills per day... There is not one day where he ACTUALLY takes the recommended dosage, he ALWAYS winds up taking less and he has had kidney stones, bulging disks and countless other back problems... Along with his medication he also gets foot long needles shot in his spinal chord... You think he would go throw all that trouble just for some pills? He could have been upgraded to 30mg's a hundred times... The point I'm trying to make is that 99% of you people with all these crazy stories of "legit" pain are all full of crap... You are all junkies and addicted to oxycodone and any other opiate you take... Nobody who is functioning is in enough pain to be on 4 methadones and 4 30mg oxycodones a day... Nobody who can walk is in that much pain as in need of that much medication... The fact of the matter is that all of you complaining that you can't fill your scripts are just victim to circumstance... Blaming "junkies" for making it harder to fill your scripts but you are only blaming yourself because you are in that category... The amount of meds I see you people say you take in your posts would be able to treat a 3,000 lb elephant... You aren't fooling anybody... If you weren't on medicaid you would actually be able to fill your scripts... Every pharmacy has oxy in stock, mostly in large bulk... They won't let somebody who has a 1 dollar copay fill it there because they don't make any money off of it... I work in a pharmacy and I prepare prescriptions for people all day long... My boss (who is obviously a licensed pharmacist) turns down people all the time and he reserves that right... If you are willing to pay 2 dollars per pill to fill your script then he will gladly fill it for you... If you are a junkbox and you come in there with a medicaid card trying to get it without even having a copay then you aren't getting anything... Pay cash or get off meds... Or stop faking disabilities and get back to work so you can get a good insurance... And to the small percent of people who actually do have REAL pain, I wish you all the best... But some of these people need to stop fooling themselves...

Hello again, I am the pharmacist that posted under Anon at the start of this month. As work is often hectic... I have not had the chance to check back to this board. I reviewed comments to my post and would like to comment and answer questions.

First off, to “hatesusernamesâ€. While I expected many to just tear me a new one, I was happy to see posts like yours. Respectful and well written. Your first point was in response to me stating that I reject 75% of patients (the quantity limits I'll address in a bit). I was not intending to mean that 75% of patients need to change their meds. What I am saying is that I can’t supply the amount of patients asking for the medications. I was merely stating that if there were 75% less oxy prescriptions, there would not be this problem to start with. You mentioned that Florida has many residents and that may be why we have so many pain docs here. While Florida is home to many residents, they do not represent 90% of pain patients in the nation. This percentage of doctors has changed drastically in the past 2 years, but my point in the 90% statistic was to point out that there was a problem in Florida only. As far as your comment about no one coming between you and your doctor, I would like you to look at it from my point of view. Everyone from your nurse to doctor to pharmacist are part of your healthcare team. We all want to help you, not make life hard for you. Let me ask you this...if you were looking for a new doctor and your pharmacist recommended you avoid a specific doctor, would you make an appoint with him or her just to prove me wrong? More than likely you would trust my judgement. If you ask me if a medication is safe to take, are you asking me for the fun of it or do you actually value my opinion? I wonder why on oxycodone, people suddenly don’t want to value my professional judgement? As for my opinion about oxycodone dispensing if I had no limits? It’s a great drug.... when used appropriately. When it comes to medications, I check my personal beliefs at the door. When the whole “I’m not dispensing birth control because its against my religion†issue came out, I rolled my eyes. Religious beliefs have no place in the treatment of an individual unless you choose you pray to get better. So when I tell you that I have no problems with it I mean it. Would I take the time to respond to this post if I had such a problem with it? I currently spend up to 5 minutes with the people that I cannot dispense to. Five minutes discussing pain management therapies and alternatives and how I can help. Does your pharmacist spend 5 minutes with you when you actually are filling a prescription? How about the ones that tell you no, they can’t fill it. How long do they talk to you then? When I turn away a customer, 9 times out of 10 they thank me for my time as they walk away with some going so far as to submitting positive comments to my corporate department for going out of my way to help (all from a customer denied oxycodone). And it bears repeating, I never discriminate. Anyone receiving oxycodone in my pharmacy only had to be there at the right time when I had the ability to accept new customers. When they asked, I added them. As I said, your post was well written and I wish more people took the time to understand like you rather that just get angry.

Ok, on the the limits issue. I know Donna has asked me to respond to this issue and provided information contrary to my statements. When I say the DEA has limits on ordering, it is an indirect action. When I order a bottle of oxycodone, I send in an order form. The supplier (who sends me the drug) gets a copy and the DEA gets a copy. The quantity of medication ordered is tracked by both entities. I am not allowed to order without restraint. On a monthly basis, around the 20th or 25, my invoices begin to state “approaching monthly quantity limits.†If I order another order after that, I either get a partial order or an invoice that says I have reached my limit and cannot order any more medication for that month. At that point I get no more until the first of the next month. (as an aside, this occurs with all controlled ingredients. My company was out of generic sudafed for 3 months one year because they had produced the maximum limit of product allowed by the DEA. The last three months we had no store brand because we could not manufacture any additional units due to DEA restrictions). Plain and simple. Is it a law? No, it isn’t and if you ask anyone if there is a law, you will be told no. Suppliers however are required to restrict quantities and monitor pharmacy use. If you search Google news and type “CVS oxycodoneâ€, the 2nd and 3rd stories down show what happens when they don’t monitor. Two CVS pharmacies in Sanford, FL ordered enough oxycodone to supply a population 8 times the size of the city. As a result of that supplier not monitoring ordering habits of their pharmacies, the DEA revoked their license to distribute ALL controlled substances at one of their major distribution centers. (and yes, this causes shortages in those companies that get supplied by that warehouse, which would be most of central Florida) I successfully petitioned a 25% increase in my maximum order limits for oxycodone in my pharmacy. That increase is huge, but still allowed me to dispense to only about 8 extra patients. Are all pharmacies telling you the truth that they can’t get it in? I will tell you straight out, no, they are probably lying. I have never lied to my customers though. I am upfront and honest that I can’t take on any new customers.

Before anyone yells at me for stating I have a list, hear me out. My promise to each of my customers is that I will have your medication every month. No driving around... no worries. But to do that, I have to dispense within my limits. If I take in new patients or fill one time fills for other patients, those that have been promised meds that get their meds at the end of the month will come and I’ll have to turn them away. How would you like it if I promised to have your meds every month, and did so for months on end and then one month when you’re out of meds and come to my I tell you, someone was hear right before you and bought up the last of my supply so you’ll have to go somewhere else this month. You’d be pissed and I’m sure I’d hear about it for the next 30 minutes. I choose to give my customers 100% service every time. or this reason, I have to restrict what I can dispense. I personally feel I do more good by promising a handfull of patients a reliable source for their pain relief rather that randomly giving out meds to the first person that walks up.

To Donna Ratliff: I want to respond to you specifically. I am going to preface this with the following statement. I am sure you will be pissed at me after reading this and may even post such on this board afterwards. If you want me to be honest with you and help you understand this situation (which I am willing to do), you need to understand how a professional feels about what he has read from your posts.

I will admit I found this board looking for information on you. To tell the truth, I had been told that you created a document in circulation that is factually inaccurate and when I showed it to a state inspector, he called it a joke. The state inspector has reviewed this document and the local and state police have a copy of it on file for some ongoing investigations. While I am not sure if you did or did not write it, I can say I hope you didn’t because it has served as a beacon to pharmacists to not serve the customers that bring it in. If you are not familiar with what I speak of, no worries. (I will not be posting this document as it is innacurate in information and personel from the state have dismissed it.)

Next, I want to address what I see as a problem with what I see written on this board and in some of your posts. You are calling yourself a State Leader for the American Pain Foundation. You profess vast knowledge of the problems that patients are facing and seem to possess the same amount of knowledge regarding the doctors that prescribe the medications. This is where your knowledge seems to stop. I find in many posts that statements about pharmacies and pharmacists are inaccurate, false or misleading. I would expect that as a leader, you should have a working knowledge of all parts of this machine. If you did, you would see that pharmacies are not the “bad guys.†We are merely at the end of a chain and the last person between a patient and their medication. We work with your doctors to get you your medications. I do not simply take the prescription and give you a drug. If I did, I would care about any of this. I deeply care for each and every one of my patients and they rely on my judgement. You also brought up, as did others, the general statement that the prescribing doctors are “board certified†or specialists in pain management. I agree that many of these doctors are indeed trained as such. Some posts have also professed that pharmacists have no right to get between a doctor and his or her prescription. To this I ask you to think about this. Those same doctors who you say are 100% right and that have your best interests at heart are some of the same doctors that lost their licenses. Some of them are the ones that have been arrested. How many patients that have posted on this board have stuck with only one pain doctor? Hoe many of you have had your doctor close their doors? I am guessing many of you have. These are not the professionals you are talking about, but in these posts, they are the ones that are supposedly smarter than the pharmacists.

Finally you have implied that pharmacists suck at their jobs. You said “maybe pharmacists don’t know that the new reformulated meds aren’t as effective.†This statement is insulting. Would you dare go into your doctor and tell him or her that maybe they aren’t up to date on pain management as they should be? You may not have intended for this to be an insult, but it is taken as one and proves to me that you do not have knowledge or respect for the profession of pharmacy. Pharmacy is and always will be part of the pain management process and insinuating that a pharmacist doesn’t know what they are trained to do is not something a leader in pain management should be stating or even implying.

Now that I know you are angry at me, take a deep breath for a second and listen. If you haven’t figured out by now, I want to HELP YOU. Help may not be in the form of telling you where to get oxycodone and anyone working or a pain organization should shutter at websites that tell patients where to get their prescriptions filled or which pharmacies have some in stock. Instead I want to help by letting you know that not all pharmacists are evil. We are all people. Mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers. I know pharmacists whose compassion for patients exceed even my greatest hopes. So if you want the help of a pharmacist, one that is willing to help, we are out there. All you have to do is make the effort to understand all of the facts of the situation and the pressures that we are all under.

As a last note, there was one person posting many inaccurate things. In the past 2 pages of posts, there were many things said that were just plain ignorant, so much so that I can’t even give them a response. All I want to say is that this person speaking for pharmacies does not represent the profession at all. If i had an employee that spoke as this person does, they would not work with me for long.

actually, ironically filling my oxycodone 30's is easy here its getting the rx! lol now that the 1 doctor for pain is gone, noone wants to take new cash patients. my guy at the pharmacy has my meds ready for me to come in. i have an appointment within 2 weeks so ill be buying off street till then just so im not in agony. what a mess. people in palm beach have opposite problem...plenty of doctors but no way to fill. this is bulls*** and pam bondi is a huge problem along with rick scott. neither one cares about us "small people" who are in pain. just make sure to vote others in office

sad truth is that I have tried to get lawyers involved. called DEA myself. all but threaten to burn down a pharmacy. read my earlier post. the only way lawyers will get involved is if you are DEAD.

ask your doctor to simply change to oxymorphone(dilaudid) 8mg x 3 a day (for 5 30mg oxycodone instead) i didnt believe they would work for me and was skeptical but nope...they work and work very well and trust me you will be happy...its good to switch up every now and then. you should be able to fill those.
i dont have any issues with oxycodone here in this part of the state...i just am waiting for my appt. next week so i dont have to keep buying off the street.
sad i fought for my country and now cant get my pain meds at all in this county all cause no doctor in this county is taking the doctors patients who went to jail...bs...we didnt do the crime but were getting profiled as bad people when most of us were completely legit.
thank God i have an attorney who hooked me up with a doctor next week...then i just need to fill it like you are doing now...

Most people I know have Bernard able to fill in punta gorda or in port charlotte from here in cape coral. I myself have tried the dilaudid 8 don't like them too used to the oxys I guess. My main issue is that everyone is insistent on the idea that Medicaid will no longer pay for them is this really the case?? I have a Dr appt. I have an appt for the 24 and not sure if I will be able to afford the 200 plus paying for the script also and I get 30 and 15 for breakthrough and I know I can fill in Miami and supposedly out there at Sunrise they are still under 3.00 each to fill?! So there's my wisdom for day for you guys I feel ya on the street kick but be careful I speak from experience ten years ago I got forced to do same and sold ones I didn't take and for 20.00 that was left on my table I sat in county for 18 months fighting a trafficking charge not good. We don't need to give the state any more fuel against us guys so be careful and also watch what you say on here even you never know who's reading this stuff. ;) Anyways I am on Facebook same name look me up if you need to talk or whatever I sit home all day as of late seems all I can do. :( Good luv all and I pray we are all out of pain soon if not already.
