Fentanyl Withdrawal Cold Turkey

So, this is my situation. I was on Fentanyl 75, and oxycodone 15 for breakthrough pain.my pain stems from a bad back which led me to have three back surgeries and still have inj's. radiofrequency ablation's with not much success. I just moved back here to AZ from Colorado and saw my previous p.m. Dr. Because of Swimming I've had a couple patches falloff and even lost one in the pool. So when I went to the p.m. Dr. he wouldn't help me wean off fentanyl cause I was 10 days early on the script. Even taking my oxy 15 I had horrible withdrawals. Headache, ears ringing, restlessness and worse to me restless legs. My p.m. Dr. said he would switch my patch to something different and wean me down but not until a months time. After complaining and explaining the pain that I was going through he called in clonidine & Clonazapam and I still had my oxys. Even with all this medication I still went through horrible withdrawals. I was only on Fentanyl 75 for 3 1/2 months. Today is Friday. I'm supposed to go back to the office Monday afternoon to see if they will start to wean me. I'm supposed to go back to the office Monday to see if they will start weaning. I would have never have put that first patch on me if I knew I would have to go through this hell. So my question is how long does Fentanyl withdrawal take?? I've read something about Fentanyl being stored in your fat cells and It takes longer???? When I asked my doctor before I left the office if I would be okay stopping the Fentanyl cold turkey with only having the oxys he said you won't die but it won't be pleasant. Well the way I feel I wish I would die so I don't feel how unpleasant this whole thing is. If anybody has been through the same situation can you please share how you made it through. Though it wasn't Fentanyl, I did got cold turkey off of several narcotics, after being on them for about 7 years in pain management. Yes, it can be very miserable.

The withdrawal symptoms, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, rebound pain, fever, chills and diarrhea.

The best things I found to help were warm/hot soaks in the tub.

Does anyone else have any advice that may help?

Thank you Verwon. I find that every day helps and you're right I jump in my hot tub because I live in an apartment and I just sit there for a while and it helps a lot. It's hopeful to hear that all of you have made it through it's just such a hard process it's such a shame for those of us who really needed the medicine and her being treated like druggies now when we want to come off of it. I have had severe back pain for 45 years. My most recent pain doctor has me on 25mcg fentanly and 15mg oxycodone x 3 per day. He want me to meet with his associate on the 26th to discuss suboxone. I have read the agreement info on sub's and it looks like a humilating process. my plan instead is...I have 6 patches left and about 20 oxy's left. I want to do the take only 1/2 of the patch at a time by leaving one side of plastic on, thus reducing it to 12mcg. I also want to reduce the oxy's to 1 or 2 a day. Is it a myth about the 1/2 plastic off thing or not?

I would rather have the pain which is incapacitating and I cannot work without meds however I am in such a position that I feel I have no alternative. I want out of the prison of addiction and willing to go thru hell to get there. I have cold turkey'd 300 mg morphine sulfate, (16 days no sleep, just torture) I have done the same with methadone which was worse and zanax also. I had no choice on those withdrawls as I was in jail, and they just laughed at me after putting me in the hole for "medical observation" even though they were prescribed and they had my medical records. Wasn't like I had no such records. This is different and more options to lessen the pain. So 25mcg of fentalyl and 45 mg oxycodone a day is not much compared to that. So please advise me the best way to do this. The take only 1/2 plastic off is the real question I need to know. Thanks
