Fentanyl Withdrawal?
(Newest replies first)
Updated
I have been on Fentanyl for pain of cancer treatment side effects & have been reducing from 400mc & down to 25 mc without any side effects. After 48 hours of last dose I have been having involuntary leg movements, first on left for 12 hours. Had a little relief and upon eating and taking normal medication, I began vomiting and got involuntary leg movements on right side. Are these withdrawal symptoms? Do I need to go in to a doctor? I have no small dose of Fentanyl left to take. Only 100 mcg doses.

Yes yes yes they are you went down to quickly hun. You will live but go back up to 50 and talk to Dr
He needs to know. Please
Has anyone ever had Fentanyl Patch withdraw symptoms when reducing from 25mcg to 12.5mcg? My husband finished 7 weeks of radiation treatment and is trying to ween himself off of Fentanyl. He went from 100mcg to 50mcg then was taking the 25mcg for 2 weeks or, maybe longer. He just changed the patch 3 days ago to 12.5 and he is suffering from sweats, cold, tired, feeling emotional and has the runs... Hope this is all over soon and we can move on with our lives.. Nice to see that we are not the only ones going through a situation like this and it certainly sounds like there are many of you that have been dealing with more then we have. God Bless...
I agree with both of the above posts. The slower you taper off of Fentany; the easier it is on yous body. You have to do this with your Dr. so that you can get Rx'ed the proper amounts. I had to drop by 25mcg every 2 months to avoid the w/d symptoms you describe . . . QMNFW
You can always try and get your Dr to RX you either Oxycodones or Roxycodone pills to take as needed for pain. I take 30mg Poxycodones for break through pain and I've gone from taking them 10X's a week to about 2.
Those do sound like typical side effects, I too am on the patches for my Cancer, and I have gotten myself down from 175mg to now at 37.5.mg's. I suggest that you have your Dr give you a RX for the 12.5 patches, and take those for a few weeks and see if that helps with the withdrawal. I was told by my Dr's that that was the best way to go about it if your doing it on your own. But I think from everyone I have talked to (Dr's) and Ppl I know that were on the patches, that your body can not really take a 25mg drop, and that you should always go the 12.5 route.
Good Luck and God Bless you.
these are almost definitely signs of +moderate w/ds. Please have your Dr. Rx you at least #90 Oxycodone IR 30 mg bid prn. Take one when the pain or w/ds become intolerable. I would ask for #150 qid prn but it's you Dr. and I don't know how strict he/she is.
Have you consulted your doctor, yet?
Those can be withdrawal symptoms, but it is always best to check with your doctor to be sure.
In addition, they may be able to advise you on how to alleviate them, until the medication has fully processed out of your body.
