Fentanyl Patch Switch To Butrans Patch

I was on Fentanyl 25mcg for one month. My doctor is switching me to a Butrans patch 15mcg. He says it is too short of a time to get withdrawals. How long do I wait before I use the Butran after taking off the Fentanyl ? Thank you.

I'm afraid that I must disagree with your doctor on that, because Fentanyl is a very potent opiate, so you may still experience some withdrawals.

Additionally, the Buprenorphine in the Butrans may cause you to go into precipitated withdrawals, if you start it too soon. Usually you need to wait until you're in full withdrawal, before starting it.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Hi Verwon. Thank you so much for your reply. I was on 25mcg for 27 days and it appeared I had too many side effects that would not quit.i took off the fentanyl patch 29 hours ago and I am taking Percs and Ativan and so far I am ok but of course I am cautiously guarded. My ins has not approved the Butrans yet so wil be using those drugs for now. Much thanks and I hope all is well with you.
