If you call the phone number on the box your patches come in they will send you adhesive patches to put over fentanyl patch. I had the same problem and that's what they sent me. Also tegederm patches made me break out with blisters and rash but the ones they sent didn't.

**TRIED & TRUE! BEST WAY TO KEEP THE PATCH ON!** According to the instructions AND both the Dr & Pharmacist, Tegaderm is not recommended because it's not breathable & will hold in your body heat causing stronger effects. What I use is a breathable stretchy white tape called "Cover-Roll Stretch". PT's use it over KT Tape. I buy it for about $11 for a 10 yard X 2" roll. I ALWAYS first clean off my skin with a little rubbing alcohol on a tissue. DON'T RUB HARD! Just lightly get the oil off ur skin. Cut the tape a little bigger than the patch & round off the corners so they don't catch on anything. I shower every day and this has never failed me. I also label each cover 1-10 plus the day I put it on & the day to take it off. Do this and you will never have a problem again.

If you cover the patch with the palm of your hand for 30 seconds it will stay on better,. I have been on the patch for about five years and find that the 30 second way is the best.

Like i just posted for someone else...im afraid I might not have any left for me when I go back to place my order!! LoL. Amazon has the tegaderm for the cheapest price you will find anywhere. I order the large sheets, a box of 20 sheets for $20. Then I cut each sheet into fours. So I get 80 tegaderms for $20 dollars! I was paying 65 dollars for a box of 100 from a walgreens hospital pharmacy. You can get them from pharmacies, but the only ones that will have them or order them for you are the pharmacies that are inside the hospitals. They have to carry them because they're used on the patients. It’s expensive and most insurance is not going to cover it. I have AARP United Health and Medicare never covered it yet in five years... Go to Amazon for the same exact product I got from Walgreens - that I can assure you!

I found that mefix is horrible for sensitive skin. When I took my patch off it caused my skin to bleed and puff up for five or six days. That was a few years ago and my new pharmacist gave me some bandage to try and I didn't realize it was a mefix product. My skin had the same reaction!

In regard to the patch needing to breath. Is there a difference in using something transparent or not if they both breathe the same?

I have used everything from duct tape to postal tape to keep the patches on...but they keep falling off...I do not sweat....I clear the area and apply the patch but...off it falls in a day or so....talked to the pharmacist who looked surprised when I showed her the sores on my skin from the various tapes.... called the mfgr. who sent us 10 overlay patches....but these were minimally effective.....for the price the mfgr. charges, you would think that the patch would stay on!...we have a pet dog who lives indoors...if this little one finds a patch, eats it and becomes sick and/or dies....guess what ? Legal case......perhaps we just need to contact the FDA, a congressperson or two (it is election time here) and a good lawyer....

You can get Tegaderm. Just know that if you have sensitive skin or get irritated feeling your shirts tags, etc, touching your skin you’re going to hate this. I have a spinal cord injury and nerve damage in my cervical spine that's caused thyroid issues and I sweat a lot as a result. So mine kept falling off. Tegaderm was okay but after about 8 hours of sweat building behind the Tegaderm my skin felt nasty and itched like a cast does for the same reason. Sweat. And I would pick it off in my sleep. Not only does it get really wet from sweat but the patches adhesive gets watered down with my sweat and falls off inside the Tegaderm if it's not completely tight and in a spot that doesn't have the skin moving a lot. So. Not many places to put it. I called Mylan and got the sleeves to put over it that they will mail out for free as long as your pharmacy gave you Mylan brand. Just call Mylan labs and ask and they will ask for the NDC# and Lot# on your box. I don't know is any other manufacturers do this for it.

We were taught in Nursing school to never use tegaderm to cover Fentanyl patches due to holding in heat and causing more of the medicine to be released instead of the normal release time. I understand you have to use extra measures to make the patches stick. Had same problem when I used the patches myself. Just a thought....not trying to stir up anything.

Use cotton balls and scrub the skin with rubbing alcohol before putting on the patch. This always has worked for me.

I hve been on all types of pain patches! I will try again, to help everyone who uses the patch. CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BOX!!!!!! The companies know of this problem, they will provide for FREE!!!!!! a overlay that goes over the patch!!! I hve never had a company tell me NO, in fact almost all of the time it was received in 24hrs. Why no one comes right out to let you know this, I can't say. Again, if you want to waste your money it must b nice that you can afford it. FREE, FREE, FREE, if you follow my advice!!!!!!!!

Hi, yes as a senior nursing officer these people have good advice. Mefix or hyperfix is a good dressing cotton. The patch must NOT BE OCCLUDED. It has to breath. Heat affects the dose. Do not use a plastic dressing. The patch is waterproof. Ensure your skin is clean, dry, and oil free. Use a different site each time. All the best, kind regards - G

I live in small town so I had to find tegraderm at a nursing supply place, the box of 4, 4X4" works well for the 75mcg. I, too, have her sensitive skin, change patch every 48 hrs, using the tegraderm covering each time. I have no problems with my skin using these coverings. In fact one of the uses are to cover wounds while healing. They are easy to remove also if you use the methods explained on the box. They are one of two dressing s approved in the fentanyl info...Although they are pricey, def. worth it.

Try hyofix of mifix it is non occlusive white non allergic adhesive used in dressings the patch needs to breath or it will heat up ask your pharmcist.if the patch heats up your dose is wrong. It comes in a roll.
After shower just pat with towel.make sure your skin is dry before you apply patch.

Since the medication is in the adhesive and the Mylan patch becomes dry and falls off, how is i possible for the medication to be absorbed into the skin? I have been using IV site dressings to keep the patches on but have had increased pain since using this manufacturer's patch.

For a cheap solution, try putting a really sticky plaster over the top. The fabric ones tend to the longest lasting in my experience.

in my opinion wearing a fentanyl patch is far more preferable from from a health standpoint than taking even one tablet a day, not as damaging to the kidneys or stomach lining, my Dr. also indicated this to be his opinion also, as for myself I have certainly noticed a difference in less urinary problems, as in retention and stream strength.
