Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms (Page 79) (Top voted first)

Updated

I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.

I too have been on fentanyl 75mcg for 18 years, I have severe rheumatoid arthritis with severe joint damage
I lowered to 50, then 25 and finally 12.5. Last patch was left on for 7days. Which is now 13 days ago.
The fentanyl worked great for so long. Then I started to have very excessive sweating for no reason, it was debilitating. I would walk to kitchen or bathroom and be drenched in sweat. My pain mgmt dr said they don't know why it happens, but it does. I Cannot wait to be awful this horrendous drug withdrawl. Two weeks tomorrow without a patch on.
What have others done to get thru this withdrawal and debilitating exhaustion, etc? Taking Tinzidane and small dose Valium.
I Will see a dr tomorrow to see what my options are. Would never start this drug knowing what I do now. Any suggestions would be so welcome. And what to expect a month or two from now. I'm still on dilaudid for pain control

Good for you Karen!! Great job. I know it's not easy but trust me in about 6 months you will start to feel like a different person. In a good way lol. Just stay positive. I've been off of it now or just over a year and feel great. Now don't get me wrong, you will still have pain but I think you will find that your pain is actual better without it. I did have to start dilaudid 2 mg as you might find you still need something. I didn't know how deadly it was either. Back then I don't think anyone knew much about it. Please please don't ever go back on it!! You are almost there!! If you can afford it swimming is good for you or physio therapy. Good luck on your journey! Stay in touch.

Wd- how did everything work out? Your last post was very scary for anyone that needs pain medication. The new regulations and e-scripts are making it difficult for those with chronic pain to get prescription medications we need to have any quality of life. Please update everyone.

Thank you!!! I'm now at 10 weeks. Hardest thing I have ever gone thru in my life!! I'm now off the dilaudid too. Was in 6-4mgs, then 3-4mgs. Today I'm on vicodan to see if I will feel better. Still so extremely weak!! I told my pain management dr that to do this I should have gone to a clinic that detoxes people. He said oh we have that here. Well why in the hell didn't someone inform me. It's pure hell, I sure hope it's not another 4 months til I'm feeling better. In on my last leg here. Thanks for your response, it makes me feel better that I'm not losing my mind.

Posters,

Due to the illegal use of Fentanyl by drug cartels and selling it in fake NORCO and XANAX pill forms Duragesic has no life out there left people. I was on it for over 16 years and am happy to be back with my top specialist and getting off it completely switching to the longest acting cheapest drug in the world Methadone created under Hitler during their poppy shortage and then the patent sold to the US due to the high and fast tolerance.

Insurers are now just cutting people off due to the Affordable Care Act loop holes and most of us cannot just chance this with the FDA and CDC creating scares and government demanding physicians not practice medicine properly. My medication bill retail due to my genetic defect and metabolizing ultra rapid was close to $30,000 per month. I hope our new interventions bring it down to under $2,000 per month.

METHADONE is dirt cheap regardless and the only long acting that comes in solution form. For someone with my defect either liquid or IV or injectable is all that works. I am blessed to be getting off Duragesic with a whole host of medications this go round. I recall doing a taper on much lower amount years ago pre surgery and the hell I went through.

You can die from going off this drug cold turkey do not do it without a physician who KNOWS in charge here.

I am a believer in the use of cannabis when you are in pain. it is also great when u come off off the hard drugs and it will relax u in the body and in the mind. really it helps a lot with the depression. and also u will eat more. i for one lost 550-55 lbs when i got sick 9 years ago and just now starting to gain some back with cannabis and a new drug in trial called Dronabinol 2.5mg. I think it was a anti depression drug that had a side effect that helped with eating. great for me, others not so much. God Bless and stay away from any druggies. they can remind you of drugs. environment is a big thing when u want to stop drugs. I still have a hard time. it's all in the mind. but u should stay away from those types. i know it helped me from staying off street drugs.

Actually it is not illegal and most pharmacies do this. They do it to stop ppl from giving them away or getting addicted and using them wrong. A lot of ppl do chew on them for faster intake. They also inject it. This is in Canada. I don't know where you are.

Karen, you are not losing your mind. You are doing well! Just keep it up. It doesn't matter how long this takes. What matters is that you keep it up. Before you know it you will start to feel better. I know that weak feeling too and I hate it but that's just your body telling you to rest. I'm here for support if you need it. Good going!! So proud of you!!

You are so right! Good for you for coming off. I too was on this for 13 yrs. I was up to 150 mcg. That's just insane. I'm off it now too and feel amazing! I'm surprised I'm still alive. This drug can kill you weather you are on it or coming off it. It is DEADLY! You are on a good course! Stay on it and good luck! You can do this!

I too also use medical cannabis. You are correct in letting all of us know how helpful it is. Good for you too for staying off these heavy drugs! MMJ is perfect for so much. You no longer have to just smoke it. There are so many options. Stay strong!

Thanks for your reply Sandra
I'm now at almost 12 weeks, this Thursday. Definitely the hardest thing I have to ever font through in my life and I had some pretty gnarly surgeries and recovery.
I will never, ever go back to fentanyl unless I'm terminal!!!
I'm still not feeling real good. A few good days, still more bad days. Trying to stay positive, I'm just so exhausted from all of this. See my dr again Wednesday, will hope to more about how I'm feeling. I would pay to go to a clinic if I would have known how tough this is. Still have hot flashes and so weak and fatigues. Still taking 4 mg dilaudid twice a day. Was put on vicodan by my pain specialist but does no good. Had to go back to dilaudid. Going to try 2ng twice a day see if less side effects.
Hope you are sling wonderful

Karen you are doing great! There will always be days better than others. We will always have pain. Every sec of every day. I'm on 2 mg dilaudid every 4-6 hrs with long acting dilaudid as well. I don't think I will ever be able to go without some sort of pain med on board. I just will never use oxy or Fentalyn or Percocets. On those tired say do nothing. Listen to your body. I will keep rooting for you and thinking of you. Wishing you some pain free days. Keep up the strength!! Stay in touch Karen.

Thank you Sandra so much for your support! I really appreciate it!!!
Do you still have hot flashes on the dilaudid you're taking?
Did it take you a complete 6 months before you had your energy back. I can't do much right now I'm so tired.

I have been slowly going down from 75mcg to know on 25mcg and oh my it's like everything on my body hurts even more. I am barley able to walk know as the pain has gotten so bad in my knee's (where I had none before coming down on fentanyl). Has anyone else had similar issues with trying to get off this narcotic pain relief!

YES IT IS CALLED POST ACUTE WITHDRAWAL SYNDROME. What you mentioned are the W/D SE. Try getting some BENZODIAZOPINES Like Xanax, Ativan, Klonipin, or just Valium. Maybe Ambien to help you sleep. You can do it. I did it. I've beat a lot more than All Opiates. 6 mnths clean with no P.A.W.S.

That is how you will feel. Valium if u have, that will help. I took marijuana to calm me down after I detox from 100 methadone minus 5 mg per week til 0. That is when i went home to my family, (which the kids stayed with my mother, just in case). A few days later and that was that. Where u stay when u are clean will make a difference. I assume it's from pain. Mine was not then but is now.
