Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms (Page 43)

I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.

Get rid of the dr. that gave you that patch. I am on it now with Percocet and I am having awful withdrawls. I have no problem when I do not have a percocet but this Fentanyl crap is driving me crazy. Seriously trying to consider how the hell to get off these soon.

I started on 75 fetanyl now on 62. Next month will be 50.also take 10/325 perc 2 to3 times a day. All this to go on methadone to replace the patch. Right now withdrawals for me are aches and pains hot and cold tired and restless. Don't know at what point I will be going on the methadone, maybe when I get down to 37 or 25. I still don't know if I have made the right choice, but I do not like the patch, they don't always stick and since I have no insurance, by going on the methadone pill will be about $320.00 cheaper. Did I make the right choice ? Is methadone going to help me with my pain?

Because of a fusion that is why I am on fentanyl and percocets. Your chances of getting better are not that great. I did it as a last result. Now weaning from fentanyl and percocets to methadone. Going from two evils to one I guess.

Jk - I have percoset but am refusing to do it daily as it will just then become dependent on that.. I had no withdrawals from fentanyl after so many years. I did it all myself over two months. No one should stop immediately just keep changing the patch longer between changing of the patch.. Good luck to all.. All these drugs hurt the body I am sure. Just have to learn to deal with pain. Changes your life that's for sure.I do more than I should knowing will hurt but can't stop living

JK I was on Methadone for a couple of years. That does not get rid of the pain. I took that for neuropathic pain for RSD and did nothing. I did not have a hard time coming off of it but this patch sucks. I am bouncing big time tonight after 4 days not having a patch.

Right now I feel o.k. But as the day goes on I know it won't be so great. Wish I never had fusion, can't really tell if it made any difference. Either way I am still on fentanyl and Percocet and trying to wean myself off, what a "pain". I do hope when I get on just the methodone it does make my life and pain easier to handle. Has anyone else out there made this type of transition? And how has it turned out for you?

J.K. AND LILRED, Have you heard of Suboxone? This is what I took when I came off the patch and it saved my life. NO WITHDRAWALS at all and it even helps with the pain. Please research this and try it. It's worth a try if it is going to give back your life...hope this helps....

Nutty nanny, I just read your post, I am at this time just trying to deal with the chronic pain. I have a high tolerence and my back feels like someone squeezing a fist full of pain one area just where my fusion was, l5s1. I am just trying to deal with no drugs as being on fentanyl never took my pain away anyway. That's why I finally decided to see if I could go without it. So far I am.

LilRed, gosh, your a stronger person then I....I guess everyones pain is different or maybe it's the same but handled different. I had two slipped disc in the lower back and now have two in my neck. I stay with a headache 24-7 it seems. On top of that, I have had three kinds of cancer, that I have beaten. But only by the Grace of God. I started out having ovarian cancer when I was 26, and now I'm 58, and have been on pain meds since. So, I think it is great that you are willing to go through this to be off of this med. I hope that you succeed and stay away from all pain meds. I wish that I could be that strong but I have been on them so long there is no hope for me. I have tried and tried, but only have to go back on them to even get out of bed. And I think being on them for so long helped me get this way. Even my mother wants me on something, they can't stand me any other way....cause now if I don't have something to kill the pain when I first get out of bed, I am one ill person. I keep telling the doctor that I'm addicted but he keeps telling me "no" I'm "dependent" and there is a big difference. Sometimes I wonder....Good luck and I pray your pain lessens each day that passes...

You are creating your own misery! With the way you are using the patches you are creating withdrawals! Every time you wait 4 days to change it your body goes into withdrawals and then you put a new one on and give your body what it craves. Wean yourself off evenly! Don't torture yourself for days and then give in! Good luck.

Angel, Thank you for your sweet words. I am right now trying to figure out if I need to go to the hospital. My left arm is real swollen and very hot to the touch. It is due to my mastectomy from my left breast. The doctors call it lymphedema and says it is infected when it does this. I am in so much pain. I just hate to go, I go there so much for this. I am so tired of all this. It's a never ending circle when you have cancer complications. Not only that but my blood pressure is right now 198/96, and my head is about to kill me. What am I to do??

Nutnanny, your dealing with a lot, with pressure so high you need to get that checked right away., you have beaten cancer so you have been thru way more than myself. I have had a few operations , but my back is what has caused me the most life changing.. Weather, effects my back more , today I was on my feet all day at a street fair, now will be in bed for the rest of the evening.. Heating pad sometimes helps me..just trying to not think on how I hurt..people can't understand what a back feels like unless they have it themselves..hope you get some relief .. Would like one day without pain,,

Lilred4, well, it's 2:44am in the morning and I just walked out of the hospital. They didn't even know how to access my port. And they had two young male nurses that tried to start an IV by jabbing the needle stright in my arm, and I mean jabbing. I got so mad and my pressure was 209/104 with a splitting headache that they said they could give me some blood pressure meds for it and maybe that would make my head stop hurting.....WTF...I've just took what you gave me and it didn't stop it and hadn't in the past few days. So i told them to get *#%$@& and I came home to keep taking the same ole stuff. Even my daughter that works up there was mad and could not believe how they were jabbing my arm or that they didn't know how to access my port. I'm so dizzy right now I feel like I'm going to fall out of my bed.....sorry, I'm just mad right now...daughter is trying to get me to go to the other hospital....I don't think so...I'll just take a sleeping pill and a couple of muscle relaxers and hope for the best...

Here, we understand PAIN.

I have such bad back X-rays that my doc will no longer let me see them as I know how to read them. 26 years in medicine.

Is your spine a trauma? Do you know exact location?
There is new procedure where they go in and just destroy MRI tagged nerves with radio waves to stop them from firing. It works. Tell me your tale, please.

Angel-was is spine fusion, from a fall in my kitchen from a accident from my dog, hit back on the point of kitchen cabinet, fusion l5s1 over a year later., I waited to go to dr, 7 months after fall. Was walking around with bone on bone, non sleep, 4 hours is great for me, surgery , still in pain over 9 years straight, never without, but refuse to be on fentanyl any more..so trying to deal with no meds but .. Finding it hard. Bring a special seat pad or I can't sit on most furniture

They posted the one about you going into the hospital at the same time as I was writing mine. So I look like an idiot telling you to "fight" when you had this awful experience.

I am sorry.

If you have a port, they should use IT. It's there for a reason. That was MEDICALLY WRONG. I would file a complaint with the Head of the ER. Gosh, I am so angry I could scream. You are immuno compromised. That is just what you need are stupid uncompassionate nurses and doctors when in crisis.

What about your infected arm?

How are you doing today?

I would like to hear from EVERYBODY. Lets all check in again, okay?
I am off the Pristiq and on a low dose of Prosac. WOW! What a difference that and being on 50 not 75 mcq/hr of Fentanyl patch makes. ALL WITHDRAWAL nonsense has stopped or I don't notice as I keep myself very very busy. Nothing is perfect but a little sunshine here after 7 years of hell.

Angel- I had asked my dr about that long ago, he said no too many problems, burn one nerve another part of the leg can be effected, this was at hospital special surgery in NY. Where I had it done. My back has several things going on, arthritis , bulging disks , several levels, scoliosis, from outside it looks pretty normal, inside a whole other story😒😒
