Fentanyl Patches Killing People! (Page 7) (Top voted first)

I would like to know WHY the FDA has not taken the Fentanyl Patch off the market? This drug is being handed out like candy. Anyone who is not terminal or under Hospice care or in a hospital invironment should not be using this drug. Why would a person be prescribed a medication that is 80 times stronger than morphine for a backache. I do not believe patients know how powerful this medication is. The warning should be labled in RED. When are you FDA going to realize This medication is killing while relieving pain! I know because it killed my son.

Your right, I had trouble with my family doctor for a couple of years, he would not listen to anything I said, he had it in his head that I was just after pain killers, I told him for a couple of years about he bleeding I had when using the washroom and the pain was unbearable, it turns out I have rectal cancer, he told me for a couple of years it is arthritis, he would not recommend me to get a CT scan or anything, it took a trip to the ER and the ER doctor getting me this CT scan, my family doctor also fired me , a year before I found out I had terminal cancer, it’s only terminal because he would not help me out sooner, and the Er doctor helped me because I was skin and bone, I was pretty much ready to die, I am suing this family doctor now, basically I’m on chemo which I’m lucky it’s working on keeping my tumor from spreading or growing bigger, my tumor has come out of the rectal wall and spread to the lymphcnodes outside there, I was finally given Hydromorphone for a couple of years then changed to 100 mcg fentanyl, I need this pain killer, people with chronic pain need a painkiller that works, I would also be dead of pain if it wasn’t for this Ned, yes I will die of this cancer, but at least I got my life back now, my pain is now manageable, thank god and thank for your post, I kinda thought I was the only person needing a pain reliever and was, was, feeling guilty, thank you

I had been prescribed Fentanyl patches for severe pain. My 19 year old son consumed 1-100 mg patch at bedtime I found our beloved Kyle slumped over his computer 10 hours later DEAD. Cause of death Fentanyl toxicity. This was in 2004 very little information about this drug was readily availabe.What can a mother say its been close to 10 years of self loathing, suicidal thoughts in the past. This drug can and has killed children granted he was an adult but in that one vulnerable moment we have experienced the worst loss imaginable. Fentanyl users use with extreme caution. I welcome comments.

As I just came off these god aweful patches which I've used for three years, only five days ago. After weaning down from 150 mg every 48's to every three days, then down to 50's and 25's, until done with this unbearable process of getting off them completely. It has been the worst physical experince I ever endured.
I also question why this drug is so freely given. With no resources for detox, and many Dr's not understanding the process of weaning down. This has been a nightmare, and I'm still extremely uncomfortable after five days. My advice to anyone offered this pain med to talk openly with your Dr about using something less harsh to come off of.

Please be very careful with Fentanyl patches, I also lost a son son who was abusing these patches that are 80 times stronger than morphene (sp?) They would dry them out and insufflate it. He passed out and never woke up. Please please be very careful, don't put anyone through this hell.

tell your pain doctor you want off of them now. You can do it slowly. I have come from 75 with 6 percocets 10/325 to zero fentanyl. I had to go back on the Fentanyl because nothing else helped me 24hrs a day. I came back on at 25 and 3 percocets /day and it is working ok with stimulator I had implanted in 2010.

I took fentynal for nearly 4 years. It was effective on my pain but eventually the side effects become too hard to deal with. My sleeping schedule still isn't right, my focus and organization skills have deminished, and it's been about 7 months since I've taken it. My Doc says it's the Oxycodone but my mood began to become better since I have been off of the patch. I just deal with the pain as opposed to feeling the ups and downs of the Fentynal patch. I wish I could quit taking the Oxys but nothing else eases my symptoms. I get to either choose pain or a lack of focus and fatigue. Chronic pain, as many people find out at even an early age like myself, 40, is very hard to deal with as are the medications in which we need to get by.
My most recent family doctor said I'm lucky to be alive as much Fentynal as they had me on. He said people should not take it for long periods to treat chronic pain.

I was on the 100 mg patch for 3 yrs. eventually gave me 15 per month for every 2 days. I lost 50 lbs. 230 to 180 lbs. After my second back surgery and the pain got under control, I stepped down to 10 75's and 5 50's. Then it was cold turkey. I consider myself a survivor. That stuff should only be prescribed to the terminally ill.

I take fentynal trans D patches 100 mg. They work well I am supposed to change them every 3 days. But after 2.5 days I start feeling tired and have this type of yawn where I gasp for air 3-4 times before the yawn. So I change mine every 2.5 days instead of every 3 days. To stop this reaction. I told the consultant at the pain clinic about the reaction his answer to this was to send me for councilling. Taking these patches worries me and I am thinking of cutting a strip off the patches to decrease the dose slowly so I can get off them. My heads a mess. I need to get off them.

My son was under the care of a pain management Physician in Calif. He was sent a prescription for 2 boxes of 100mg Fentanyl patches and 240 Oxycotin. MRI was neg. He took it around the clock as rx to him.He set his clock to take on time. If back pain is this bad what happens when you get cancer. Nothing will help. His experience with this medication was getting stronger and stronger every month. it went from 25mcg to 100mcg in four months.

I am not against Fentanyl for people who are terminal. It should be used in a hospital environment or under Hospice care. My son was a stickler for using his medicine exactly as it was prescribed. He was full of life, Just had a bad back. It eased his pain alright, It took it away forever.
