No you risk suffering from opiate withdrawal if you have been on the medication for any length of time say for more than a few months. Opiate withdrawal is extremely painful and very unnecessary especially if you have a legitimate prescription for it.
That is correct, while it may seem small, since the dosage is only 25mcgs, Fentanyl is actually a very potent narcotic. It is actually over 80 times stronger than Morphine.
Therefore, if you have been taking it for awhile and want to stop using it, you should seek medical assistance for the best way to taper off, while minimizing the withdrawal and rebound effects.

Ahhh...ok,here's my situation...I have 2 herniated disks in my lower back that from time to time touch a nerve causing pain in my hip & down my left leg(& the front of my left leg has gone numb as a result). This pain started after I had my first child at the age of 20. I was initially put on lortab 7.5,one every 4 to 6 hrs. This went on for about 4 yrs at which point I started going to a new Doctor who was concerned about all the tylenol & switched me to Methadone 10 mg 3xa day..this eventually ended up increasing over the years to my highest dose of 70 mg a day(I am now 34) & over the past year I decided that I wanted to wean myself down as far as I could handle without being in pain,So over about a years time I had weaned myself down to 30 mg a day. Then about 3 months ago I moved to another State & went to see a new Doctor(who is a PM Doc)& He is THE ONLY one within hours of where I now live,& he was shocked at the fact that I have been on so much Methadone for so long,& will under NO circumstances perscribe Methadone! So he decided to start me on 50 mcg Fentanyl patches every 48 hrs,& Oxycodone 10/325 @ 1 3x a day for BT pain. So this is what I have been on for almost 3 months now(although I have only occasionally taken the Percocet,as I do not need it). I absolutely HATE the way these patches make me feel,& have been reading alot about them & am now terrified of how strong they are & of becoming addicted to them! I also cannot understand this Doctors reasoning behind switching me from 30 mg of Methadone a day to what he has put me on! Am I wrong, or does this seem extremely stupid!? So my main question is, What else can I ask to be put on(since I have no way of going back on Methadone,as he absolutely WILL NOT perscribe it) that will be strong enough that I will not withdrawal from the Fentanyl 50 mcg every 48 hr patch??
i am currently trying to cut down from 25mcg fentanyl and hate feeling so tired and strung out all the time. the withdrawal is awful and i cannot sit still , have headaches, panic attacks, stomach ache, chest pains, palpitations - the side effects are terrible. i'm going to try 12.5mcg as a midway thing hoping to lessen withdrawal and irritability brought on by all the other symptoms. in two weeks i'll try to move from 12.5 to 0. i am looking forward to being fentanyl free!x
You can but take Methadone to stop the withdrawals on 25 take 50mg Methadone same time everyday
