Fentanyl Oxy...genetic Testing Shows Fast Metabolism Of Meds

After being hit head on by a drunk driver when I was 14 (I'm now 43) I lived until my mid twenties literally in agony. In my late 20's I was referred to a pain management Dr because of the severity of my injury and lack of trying everything else under the sun to relieve my symptoms, all to no avail. After years of seeing the same pain Dr I ended up in ICU due to an unrelated but still a very excruciating life threatening emergency. Unfortunately and too my complete surprise (while simultaneously praying for someone to just please put me out of my misery) I wasn't able to receive ANYTHING at all for pain in the ER out of fear of an overdose. I had been taking my prescribed medications for many many years which were 200mcg of the Fentanyl patch to be changed every 48 hrs as well as up to 13 30mg of Oxy PER DAY! I never knew this was a dangerous or extremely unusual amount, in fact I felt totally normal minus most of my pain, looking back I had never experienced the euphoric effects I'd always heard about from friends or acquaintances that used or abused drugs. I did in all honesty try experimenting but just never understood what the hell the big deal was that I alone wasn't experiencing! Because of this and other factors my Dr and I both agreed to Genetic testing which showed that my brother was in fact correct all those years when he called me a freak because (again among other strange findings) it showed I metabolize most all drugs INCREDIBLY fast (for example if I took one Ambien as directed its completely out of my system and I'm 100% awake in just under two hrs as if I'd never taken it to begin with) So I can only assume that was the reason for the insane medication amounts. But after hearing repeatedly that I'm lucky I never had an accidental overdose and having lost family and a close friend to overdose, I became concerned and began a year long excursion through utter hell while weening off Fentanyl completely and reducing my Oxy too 20mg 4x's per day (which I couldn't begin until a week after weening off both drugs 100%) I've been at this dose now for about 4 months. Problem is I can still literally feel when my medication is wearing off not only because the pain is excruciating and nearly unbearable but I still will have withdrawal symptoms set in almost immediately! Since I metabolize my meds faster than I should I'm actually sick from withdrawals as well as being in pain for several hours several times a day until it's time for my next dose... and the nights are so terrible I literally dread them knowing they're going to be spent awake and in misery. I was wondering if anyone else is or has experienced this since I know I can't be the only one who's had genetic testing to back up an unnaturally fast metabolizing of drugs. I'd really appreciate any advice or tips on how to get through this. And lastly can I ever expect the withdrawal symptoms to stop once and for all? At this point (early 2017) I'm wondering if that risk of an accidental overdose would've been the better way to go because so far this isn't living....it's hell.

Never,

I'm sorry this condition you've been cursed with is very difficult to diagnose. There are few pharmaceutical's agents longer acting or more powerful than fentanyl as you know. Has anyone ever suggested the use of methadone? It's extremely effective for pain control and with its lengthy half life most folks medicated once or twice daily receive measurable relief while suppressing any abstinence syndrome inherent with shorter acting opiates/opioids. Has anyone ever recommend this drug for you in the past? If not it may be something worthwhile to investigate. I wish I had more to offer you. All my best...Regards.
