My doctor has had me on the 100 fentanyl patch for 1 year now. He is going to take me off it. Can you just stop taking it with out side effects or withdrawals. Please tell me the proper way to get off this patch. Please help me, I have the doctor appointment tomorrow and want to know what to say. So far it sounds like his plan is just to take me off cold turkey. I am scared of withdrawals. I am a mom of 5 kids and need to be ok. Please help.
Lisa,
Yes I do have family support! I have a very supportive husband! What's going on with your arm? I will pray you won't lose your arm! I hope you have family support too!
Cindy
I'm so happy for you, pains not good so I fully understand, I am waiting to find out if my arm will be amputated in the next few months so I know what you are saying, I still hate thinking about how fentanyl nearly ruined my life. Hope you find a solution to your pain that does not include addictive opiates, I've struggled with them so long it's cost me many years and so much personally. Sometimes you will need strong relief but just don't fall into the trap of having it on a daily basis and end up hooked it's just not worth it, antidepressant venlafaxine 75mg has helped me it won't be ongoing but I will start small amounts of exercise to at least get some self respect and confidence back. I hope you have family support?
Lisa,
Thanks for asking about me. Yes I think it's all out of my system and I'm done with the withdrawals! I guess the patch was helping with my back pain, because I've been having more of that lately .
Hi how are you getting on? Have you managed to get through and off the patch ok?
That's what I was going to suggest was to try to remain as active as possible throughout the day and drink drink drink drink drink water water water water. Doesn't competley get rid of the symptoms but has always done just enough to keep me from blowing my brains out
Wow! Good for you lol I don't even know you but I'm proud of you. Honestly you won't regret this! My email address {edited for privacy} if it's easier for you to email me for support. Good for you!
Lisa,
Thanks for all of your help and support! You are such a great person! I decided to go off my pain medication myself, but my pain specialist is very proud of me. Actually Tuesday night I took my last patch off!
Hun you will be fine, you are doing the right thing, feel free to msg me for support if you like. Mine went up to 125 and it was just terrible coming off so I do know how you feel and it's dreadful! Like I ssid try drink lots water, I got depressed too and felt like I had lost all control of everything, just couldn't think straight all I wanted was the drug to make me better but at the same time it was me who had chosen to come off it against the docs advice due to chronic pain. I really feel for you, keep up the good work! What day is it today as far as folding the patch? At least you got good advice there my stupid doc told me to cut it! That could have killed me. Be proud of yourself! Take care, hope you get some rest x
I was on 50mg Of the Fentyl. I hope the next couple of weeks aren't to terrible.
Hi
Coming off fentanyl was the hardest thing I've had to do but so worth it, if you can put up with this for two weeks and I know that sounds like a lifetime when you are living in hell but they will pass, lots of water, some magnesium will help and maybe ask doc to wean off over longer period of time as ten days is not enough. What strength are you on?
Lamb
I have been on Fentyl for 2 or 3 years! I have chronic migraines! I had 2 50mg patches left and my pain specialist told us to fold them in half and wear each one for 5 days then stop. I have had to urinate alot. No bladder infection. I can't sleep my legs are so fidgety and have to constantly go to the bathroom. I'm not eating or drinking hardly anything. I'm very depressed I don't leave the house. I don't crochet or sew anymore which I love to do! Has anyone had any of these symptoms?
Where you successful in your efforts to drop fentyanl? how did everything turn out? how long did you experience withdrawl?
I started at 125mcg 12 years ago. At one time in Summer I got down to 75mcg, but had a car accident, and was put on 325mcg. I have no hip joint due to a hospital infectin, staph, and osteoporosis, so a new hip + 8cm of femur would be a life or death risk, which I don't wish to take. I'm down to 300mcg, but it doesn't last 72 hours, so I'm not basing any more, and it's winter so much more pain. Over the nearly 20 years I'm like this I have arthritis too, hence the winter time pains.
But this drug is messing up my life, to be honest. I have 2 out of 3 days OK, but the third is cramps, spasms, sweats, aches, painful hip, etc. It is the nastiest pain relief drug I've been given. I was on morphine and my Dr stopped prescribing, but after a week I was OK, although in pain but only from my hip.
I know my Specialist would never put me on morphine, as I messed up with it, but I'm considering Methadone to reduce the amount I use in the place of Fentanyl. I know it's bad for w/d too, but it can't be as hard to stop as Fentanyl, or at least reduce. I'm really fed up with the side effects of the Fenta too, so I'm getting a bit depressed at the thought of finishing my life with this damned drug in my system. I'm 56 by the way, so I am well over half way through my life span.
Getting off the patches bit by bit, from 300mcg, would take YEARS, literally!
Methadone or Fentanyl? At least with a twice a day Methadone dose I wouldn't have 1 day out of 3 in w/d. I do know it's not perfect, but it could no way be worse than it is now.
Have any of you tried this. I thought I could base the dose enough with methadone to only need 50mcg or less of Fentanyl. My Dr is OK for this procedure.
Any advice would be welcome.
Hi all~ I'm sorry to hear of so many of you guys losing your insurances and just having to quit cold turkey, sucks. After being on the patch for over two years, I'm on a gradual walk down from a 100 mcg now at 50mcg's. I'm having mild withdrawals. Some RLS at night, sweats, stomach cramps, hand tremors. But they are not constant and therefore doable. As a replacement for pain I have gone to Cannabis oil and that is working out very nicely for me as well as helping to curb the withdrawals from the fentanyl.
Go out and buy yourself some magnesium tablets! That will help with your restless leg problems I promise!
Try Subutex! :) Other people have similar results with Suboxone, I've heard. I've been on it for three weeks and it has REALLY helped. My pain is GREATLY decreased (It's tolerable with OTC pain meds now.), and I don't crave or need Fantanyl/narcotic pain relievers. (My personal experience: After being on prescription Fentanyl, and before that Norco and Vicodin, for so long, the pain releiving properties of the medications stopped working and I actually became MORE sensitive to pain. I also suffered from intense cramping and bloating, was always nauseated, threw up a lot (resulting in trips to the hospital to get rehydrated), and the skin on my abdomen was so sensitive that I couldn't even let a bed sheet touch it without nausea and/or vomiting. Needless to say, I HAD to change in order to function at all.) The Subutex has helped me so very much. I hope this helps! Please let me know how it works for you if you decide to go this route. ~Best of luck! :)
Johnson and Johnson has a program that will help you pay or will pay for all of it when I didn't have insurance I went threw them they paid for my whole scrip for 2 and half years till I got insurance look it up on internet you can do on line or can send papers in mail
Hi, I am coming off of the patch at this time. MY dr. is weaning me slowly - every two weeks. I was on 100mcg every 72 hrs. I am down to 75mcg now and on the 15th of August I go down to 5omcg then 2 weeks and down to 25mcg then 2 weeks and down to the 12mcg and then off - I hope...for good. Not sure how my pain is going to do but hope that it can be controlled in other ways. Read many of the posts prior to yours there is some good advice there. The dr. should be able to give you some meds. to help you through any withdrawls. I am on none at this time myself. I would love to hear how you are doing as it is nice to have support and some one else who is going through some of the same things. Hugs and hang in there. WE CAN DO THIS!
I have been on 50 mg of fentanly for 4 days, raised to 75 for 4 days, then reduced back to 50 because I can not stand the side effects. I want off of it and want off of it now. What is the best way> I can not eat, am in stomach pain, nerves are shot, , Any help would be appreciated.
Hi My daughter has been on a withdrawl drug called suboxon for withdrawl about a year and was doing great until her boyfriend found out and threw them away. She doesnt want to take them anymore says they make her sick. She resorted to fentanyl which she smokes, I think. the thing is she and her boyfriend broke up recently then she stayed at a rick friends who gave her a lot of money. That didn't last long and now she is back home with us. I want to help her and she wants off of everything so she went to the addiction service and it will take time to get her in rehab. In the mean time I wittnessed horrible withdrawls and gives in to the fentanyl.
