Fast Tapering Off Methadone (Top voted first)

Updated

I've been going to the hell clinic (methadone) for a lil over 5 yrs. I had 6 take homes for most of that time. I told them i wanted to go down 2 mgs a day. They said i wanted to go down too fast & I'd be "unstable" so they took away ALL my take homes. I told them to start taking me down 5 a day then instead of 2 mgs. I only have 2 more days to go. I don't want to start old pill habits, but will taking Lortabs or small amounts of Morphine help with the withdrawals? I'm taking xanax (prescribed) & lots of vitamins & vit c. & of course Immodium. Just wanna know if taking small amounts of lortab &/or Morphine will help a lil with the withdrawals off Methadone? I've came down A LOT in the past cpl wks. Any advice is very appreciated. Thx!

Hello, Melissa! How are you doing?

While they may help, they are also habit forming medications, so there is a risk of becoming addicted to them.

The FDA also warns that they may cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

Most people do not ever get off of Methadone, they usually end up requiring a lifetime maintenance dose. How much are you currently taking?

I was on methadone 15 years for chronic pain. It gave me back a quality of life. My primary prescribed until CDC guidelines and mme caculater. Per DEA sending him letters to send me to a pain clinic I ended up at a pain clinic. All was good for a year until a pain chain corporation bought them out. I was sent to the new head Doctor. He verbally and emotionally abused me.. Told me I had no choice but to come off. I was on 60 my day for 15 years with no abuse misuse! I passed every test all those years. Even got send to a pain specialist to take tests to see if I had the personality to become an addict. He reported I had no signs and used my meds highly responsibly. I have several painful diseases. This Doctor took me off in three months and nearly killed me and landed me in the hospital. I've gone from size 18 to 8 in three months. I've lost all my muscle mass! I'm very very weak and now need help walking. My hair is falling out and the pain is so bad I'm not living life any longer. Then they put me on subutex after trying for two weeks I reported the side effects. My vision is bad. I see zig zags for the first 4 to 5 hours when I rise from laying. Does not go away until I'm sitting for that amount of time. Inside my body feels like my blood is boiling. That last about 5 minutes off and on 24/7. It's not menopause done that years ago. Besides it's a 100 worse than hot flashes. When reporting this they say can't be subutex it's not on the list of side effects. I reported side effects three times and the brush them off. Finally last visit I told them I want off! Oh well have to taper you! They offer nothing else for my pain! CDC did not make this law Doctors did. I need help. I fear I do not have long to live. I've tried all alternatives including 13+ surgeries & ended up far worse. I know what works for me and it's opioid therapy. My pain journey started at age 12. I took so much over the counter meds & those almost killed me. I'm in the last stretch of life. I can't live in this pain, it's pure torture. Please help.

Re: Stephanie (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Howdy, I've been on Methadone clinic for 10 yrs. An this is my second time,on Methadone. I was clean for 8;yrs in between. Went to dentist and Bam, back on. So, I have decided that, it is what it is. I'm not wanting any other. But, as for u? My advice would be for u to get back to a clinic. A clinic that will help u get to a STABLE dose for u. Because not everyone is the same. An it sounds like, u need to find one ASAP. Methadone is miss diagnosed, by many. Because one, they don't take time to find out about it. I'm on 160 waffers. An I live a normal day to day life. It seems like ur gonna be in pain for the rest of ur life? So WHY? if u was doing so well before, why change something that isn't broke? And as far as Suboxone, those strips take every pain med to be void. My husband is on them an he can't even have surgery, because he's scared nothing with that surgery will work. I really hope you find a clinic that can help u get the right dose an the right therapist. Because the right clinic does offer that. God bless
