False Positive On Hair Follicle Drug Test For Methamphetamines (Page 3) (Top voted first)

I have custody of my two oldest children and their mother has a problem with methamphetamines. I know this for a fact because that's why we separated, but she is claiming that the positive hair follicles that she has taken and failed are all because of her asthma medicine. Are there any asthma medications that cause a false positive on both methamphetamines and amphetamines on a hair follicle test??

yes different medicines make your drug test come up false positive for some reason. I also came up false positive for a drug that I do not do or even know what it looks like. I do not do drugs and will never. I have been doing a lot of research and found out that my ulcer pill can make a false positive on the drug screen so I am gonna bring my phone to show the doctor and also bring my meds to show him as well. Don't be so quick to judge because drug screens are not 100% full proof they can come up false positive for no reason at all...but 9 times out of 10 it's because of some medicine that u r on...Do a little research on the medicine that u question for a false positive and u will be amazed at how many people have come up false positive.. yes I have very low iron and I am a vegan so that doesn't help.With all the stress it's hard to eat healthy.

Actually you sound like the foolish one. These people are asking about a hair follicle test not a urine analysis, drug metabolites show up in urine within hours of consumption. A hair follicle is a little different, your hair trends to grow about 1/2 inch every month, so when the hair is cut from your scalp, in order to test positive fire something, it would take 3 days to show up at all, though most labs will tell you 7-10 days. Its really comin sense that your hair would need time to grow out to test positive....

I have taken over 15 ua and 4 hair follicle tests. I have never tested positive, until recently. My urine was negative but hair Folic tested at 6.7 mlb on a scale of 2.0 to 10.0 for cocaine. I dont do drugs at all. I paid again to have it retested at another clinic. Whether they actually sent it to another clinic i have no idea. The thing is the same number from the first call was the number from the second call i got. Have a lawyer friend that told me hair folic are not 100% accurate. I went on the FDA website and was amazed the medications that will give false positives on hair folic. but now i am at a standstill on this matter. The mro said take it in 2-3 months again, but would it not be better to go myself and have it done because i am in shock and my family that is in law enforcement cant believe it.

DJ, yes you are being rude. You say - "First of all don't you know anything about the drugs that you are taking? Do you not feel the effects of it the very next day? If you don't know that it takes a minimum of at least 3 days to get any drug out of your system; well then, you should just say no to drugs!" That's being a rude smart ass and I would guess you're in late teen or early twenties since you think insulting people who have asked for help makes you seem intelligent. Even if you were correct when you quote "facts", which you aren't, your arrogant insults would make it impossible to think that you're wise, even if you may be intelligent you haven't gotten into it.

Completely incorrect. Hair tests can not determine when there drug use occurred with any useful degree of accuracy. Only that it occurred within the guesstimated time frame of about ninety days, give out take. Then you so ignorantly suggest that "Instead of asking the question maybe you should consider trying to Google "Will the hair follicle test I take today come out positive for the Cocaine or Methamphetamine I did last night?" Should have put some thought into that one." Yes, you should have put enough thought into Googleing your own useless, incorrect, and insulting comments before you used a help forum to stroke your own pathetic ego and then validated your ignorance by suggesting that "You may think I'm being rude" So, yeah, "you need a reality check."

It is possible, but rare to get a false positive on a hair stand test. Check all medications against list of known possible causes of false positives. And is you can afford it (about $100-$200), hey your own independent test done. If its for cps, hey they'll take your kids for a few months and if you go to the classes and stay clean, they come home to you. Try to enjoy the break. It passes, kids still love you, and you can get some useful resources to help with being a parent after there home. Unless they terminate your rights, it'll work out fine. Good luck and try not to worry to much.

Hi guys, I do drug and alcohol screening down here is Australia. I cant beleive that hair testing is employed so frequently in the US given the time and expense in doing it. Of course i get a lot of questions about substances and medications and cross reactions and my best advice is always ask your friendly pharmacist. Im sure its the same for you guys but chemists here do 6+ years of university training and they know everything there is to know about substance interaction in the human body. Doctors are not anywhere near as knowledgeable as its not their speciality and i wouldnt take the word of a doc if your very freedom or family depends on it.

My mother which is 73 years old recently got a hair drug test at her place of employment which is a big Casino/hotel in Las Vegas and it tested positive for methamphetamine but she's never done a drug a day in her life nor is on any prescription medications. She does live with a house full of her grandchildren which are all older and have friends in and out of the house all the time, so it is possible they may of smoked drugs in the house from time to time but she never has. Is it possible to get tested positive by 2nd hand smoke? Her company is doing a 2nd test on her and we're crossing our fingers that it reads correct. If not we are considering seeking a lawyer to handle the situation. How could this happen??? And is there anyway of preventing it in the future. Please help!!!

Wellbutrin can commonly cause a false positive for amphetamines. I'm on it as well. Certain types like the XL seemed to happen often while the SR didn't give me any problems. I've been on it for almost 3 yrs & it doesn't happen all the time. As a matter of fact most of the time I'm good but once in a while I'd test positive for amphetamines. I've never done methamphetamine & honestly wouldn't know what it was if you handed it to me. I was always so paranoid about taking drug tests. Now I always test positive for amphetamines because I'm prescribed Adderall so I don't worry about the Wellbutrin throwing false positives anymore. Hope this helps.

I actually read a research article about hair follicle tests when I was asked to take one because I'm a female with long thick dark hair that I regularly dye which impacts test results & I'm prescribed Wellbutrin & adderall which both cause positive results for amphetamines so I wanted to see if it would do the same for hair. The article talked about how controversial hair tests can be in a court of law because there's no flat baseline of starting points. It takes several days after use for the drug to even manifest in the hair so it doesn't show more recent use which is what courts should be more concerned with. It's mainly used to show prolonged use or lack thereof. lt's very discriminatory against race, sex, length & thickness of hair, even age because the older you are the slower your hair grows. A black male in his mid 40's has a higher chance of testing positive after a prolonged period of abstinence than a blonde 17 yr old female who's been sober a shorter amount of time. It's not supposed to be accepted in a court of law because of these issues & also the issues of accidental exposure from environmental factors that are beyond one's control but started becoming acceptable due to it's difficulty in tricking the results & because it shows habitual use more accurately but it's supposed to be accompanied by a blood or urine test to show recent use so defenders can prove their use is a thing of the past. However, like with most things, courts & cps bend & twist the law until it's all but recognizable in order to fulfill their own agendas. So now it basically depends on the individual court as to what's acceptable.

It wouldn't necessarily show positive for amphetamines, the amphetamine is under the 500 cutoff limit. I don't know what you are referring to in the second question. Was there urine testing or hair testing done? Be more specific!

Without knowing the positive level you tested at it's hard to say why you tested positive then negative or why the methamphetamine showed up and the amphetamine didn't. For example, if the methamphetamine level was 660 pg/mg it is possible that the amphetamine level was under the cutoff level which is usually 500 pg/mg. And it's kind of stupid to do a hair follicle test 9 days apart. What's the point, really stupid. My only advise is to get your own Hair 5 Drug Panel Test to see where you are at. You can do an Anonymous Hair 5 Drug Panel or do a test that can be used in a legal proceeding.

I have taken drug tests and mine came up positive for many things that I did not take. I went and had a hair test done and was clean. Everyone please be careful. The courts and drug testing facilitys can screw you. If I didn't know to do the hair test I would have went to jail for 40 days.

I guess I would start by asking if you signed and initialed a chain of custody form. If not maybe they mixed up your sample with some other person's hair. You could ask for a re-test or you could do your own Hair 5 Drug Panel test.

Yes, albuterol will show a positive. I tested positive while in rehab and they explained it wasn't my inhaler.

I double checked my Australian standards and industry data sheets for all known cross reactions/false positives for both methamphetamine and amphetamine in hair testing and if there is no lawful grounds to challenge the integrity of this finding, the result is confirmed, valid, reliable, unimpeachable on any technicality.... If all these criteria have been satisfied then I’d have to say, and cannot find any credible evidence that this result is a known false positive or through an idiosyncratic biological f***ery reaction never seen before or so rare as to be unverifiable, I’d have to say it’s accurate and she’s full of s*** basically. The testing methods are extremely advanced and they can easily distinguish between all of these substances present individually and to a high degree of sensitivity. It’s there coz she used methamphetamine at some point, and took enough to register above the tolerance thresholds for those particular substances and no other reason.

Hi. I took a drug test for cps last Tuesday February 13th, 2018. It was a UA and hair follicle test. My UA came back clean but my hair follicle came back positive for Methamphetamine (level 300). I've never used Methamphetamine in my life. I was in a car wreck and was prescribed Tylenol 3, Soma and Naproxen, and I also had the flu and was taking Theraflu due to me being sick. Can you please help me understand this Bs? My kids have been gone 4 months and i need my kids back. Please give me some kind of understanding. I'm going to take my own test this Thrusday and see the results myself.

The albuterol might show up as Amphetamine on a drug test. Not sure about the Methamphetamine. You might contact an MRO (Medical Review Officer). An MRO is a doctor trained to interpret drug test results and say what might be causing a false positive. An MRO would also testify in court. They have an association web site (aamro.com) where you can do a search for an MRO in your area. I have no connection with this web site. I would suggest getting a Hair 5 Drug Panel test to see what turns up. It looks like the combination of some of those meds might cause a false positive for something.
