False Positive For Methadone On Initial Drug Screen

Please answer my question Asap. I took a drug screen and it came back with my Adivant, Vyvanse, which i have prescription for. I also take Suboxone, 2mg strips a day, the suboxone did not show up but methadone did. I have not taken methadone for almost 2 months. Here is what medications i had taken. Vyvanse, Adivant, suboxone, Risperidon, Pre-natal vitiams, Melatonin 1mg, Prevacid 15mg, Diphengydramine HCI 25mg, and Aleve over the counter. Please help me. The lab is in the process of running a confirmation test right now but i know i have NOT willingly taken Any methadone!!! Help Please

Hi Chris,

Suboxone (Buprenorphine) has been confirmed to test false positive for Oxycodone, so I don't see why it also can't test positive for Methadone, as all three of these drugs are synthetic or semi-synthetic opioids. Unfortunately, the standard drug tests typically used for screenings lack the sensitivity to distinguish beyond the basic structures of the drug class vs. the drug name, etc.

At this point in time, the best advice I can offer is that you try to dispute your case by getting re-tested with a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer. This method has the ability to distinguish the exact substances in question, but is not initially performed because of cost. However, it is often a follow-up option for those facing serious consequences such as a job loss or jail time. I think companies who don't use this method right off the bat are just too scared to spend a little extra money for the right results.

Hopefully this will change in time as they realize the statistics showing how many people this happens to on a daily basis. These false reports just put too much stress on patients who are simply taking their medications as prescribed.

Not true. Suboxone comes up as buperenorphine not out or opiate. Dunno what caused the methadone positive but shouldn't have been the suboxone. I've been on them for a long time and never failed a test like that once and take a test weekly.

Methadone can stored in your fat cells and not show up after several days if you have been exercising recently and doing a lot of it anything stored in your fat cells may show upmind you this only happens due to excessive exercising but after for five months I wouldn't show anymore. Other than that wich is extremely rare btw it is probly a false positive
