Fentanyl Patch (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedCAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO KEEP THE PATCH FROM COMING OFF AFTER SECOND DAY ? I SHOWER A COUPLE TIMES A DAY AND ON THE SECOND DAY THE PATCH WON'T STAY ON.THEN YOU USE MORE THAN WHAT IS PERSCRIBED AND YOU RUN OUT OF PATCHES AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T PAY FOR ANY MORE THAN PERSCRIBED, THEN COMES WITHDRAWAL?
kratom works quite well for the people who can stomach it....
i used it daily for 3 years with great success for giving me energy while killing a good deal of pain....
i originally started using it to ease me off of oxycodone......i had almost no withdrawals at all !
I had the same problem with the patches coming off and found a great pharmacist who shared the following:
3m Tegaderm Film 1624W-these work for 75mcg the and smaller. I special order mine through through Rite Aid pr CVS but I'm sure any chain will do it. They come in a box of 100the and can cost up to $70take but it's cheaper than buying the packages of 3 or 4 off the rack in the store. Hope this helps.
Hi there.. I am using the Par brand 25 MCG and the sandoz 12.5 at the same time Just a FYI Sandoz is made by the same company that makes the name brand and these are the matrix type. The PAR brand is still made with the gel reservior. The Sandox stick like nothing else and I can shower and wash and no matter what I do they will not come off, However I had big issues with the PAR brand, so I called up the 800 number on the box. They sent me 150, Thats right 150 Tegaderm covers in the 4x4.75 size and I can cut them in half and get 2 uses out of one as they are so large. I also explained to Par that before I got these I wasted like 4 patches as they did not stick and had to use many more to compensate, They requested from my pharmacy proof of purchase and they refunded me the amount I paid for the 2 boxes.. Just thought this might help others
These patches work so much better than the 4 ms contin a day I was taking as I would wake up in the am and feel horrible and have to take an oxy right away as not enough ms contin was working in my system overnight causing the slight withdrawel feeling in the am, Now I have consistent delivery and I have my oxy 10 for breakthru pain
Have a pain free day..
very good suggestion as these are approved to be used over duragesic patches without the worry of the cover causing an "over-release" dose of the pain med
Buy a roll of Opsite Flexifix. Either 2 or 4 inch width by 10 meter length. The 4 inch roll cost $29.72 on Amazon Prime.
I cut them yielding 83 4"x4.75" patches or about $0.40 each. Same size Tegaderm costs $28.00 from Amazon Prime for only 50 patches or $0.56 each. If you buy them in a drug store off the shelf, they can cost over $5.00 each! Both have "high moisture vapor permeability" which means they don't hold sweat under the microfilm.
Opsite Flexifix sticks MUCH BETTER than Tegaderm. I spend more than 1 hour a day in a hot tub and have never lost a patch with Flexifit and lost dozens of patches when I used Tegaderm! I was in Stamford CT Recovery when I was introduced to Flexifix as a covering to my Duragesic patch. This was in July of 2006. I have been using Opsite Flexifix ever since.
The least expensive "overpatch" which is equivalent to a tegaderm or bioclusive patches is the "Opsite Flexifix" roll of transparent dressings.
It is made by Smith & Nephew. There are two widths: 2 or 4 inch. The product # for the 2 inch is 66000040 and the 4 inch is 66000041. The length of the roll is 10 meters or 10.9 yards. You can get about 22 patches per roll.
Search Google for flexifix and the tape will come up
Amazon Prime price 50 patches: Tegaderm patches are too expensive!
Amazon Prime price 50 patches: "3M Tegaderm Transparent Dressing with Label 4" x 4 3/4" (10 x 12 cm)50 per Box"
Box of 50 for $26.50 = $0.53 each.
Amazon Prime price roll 4-inch x 11 yards: "Smith & Nephew 5466000041 Opsite Flexifix 4 Inch x 11 Yards Transparent Film Dressing" yields 82 patches for $23 = $0.28 each!
More important, the flexifix holds BETTER than Tegaderm! MUCH BETTER!!!
I spend hours a day in a hot tub because of my arthritis. The tegaderm came off in the hot tub and in a shower. Flexifix do not. I change my patch every other day because they don't last three days. I have needed to change a patch early because of sweating and water leaking behind the patch twice in the last five years!
If you go into a hot tub like I do, make sure you bring into the tub an ice cold drink to keep your core temperature down while you heat up your muscles. Hot water also speeds up the rate at which fentanyl is absorbed, so be careful if you are a new user or have recently increased the patch size. I would never take break through pills and then go into the tub.
Re: Dawn (# 194)
I understand. It's awful worrying that the only thing that gives any real relief and quality of life will be taken away. It seems the powers that be don't understand the pain came before the medicine not the other way around.
3M Tegaderm dressing tape, or Opsite tape, both work great.
I know medicaid or someone even covers the cost at least have for me for years, as they are aware of the problem.
heat from a shower etc. can cause excess drug release also. There are generic brands of dressing tape etc. in CVS pharmacies and the like also, as these name brands are pricey, if you must pay for them.
Fentanyl Patch, to keep from falling off after the second day use self-adhesive bandage. Buy good brand so you can use it several times, I had the same problem. Will
cover with plastic wrap when showering. Before placing on skin, always clean applied area with alcohol wipes (let or pat dry). Do not place patch on oily or sweat covered surface
BULL, I;M NOT SURE IF YOU HAVE GENERIC PATCHES OR DURAGESIC PATCHES,I HAVE BRAND AND BY CONTACTING JOHNSON&JOHNSON THEY SHIP 3 CASES 150 BIOCLUSIVE DRESSING AS NEEDED. THEY ARE APPLIED OVER THE TOP OF THE PATCHES, ALSO THEY RECMMENDED PLAIN TINCTURE OF BENZOIN. YOU CAN'T PUT ANY UNDER THE PATCHES BUT YOU CAN USE IT AROUND THE EDGES OF THE BIOCLUSIVE PATCHES. ITS LIKE GLUE BUT AGAIN DO NOT GET ANY OF THE BENZOIN NEAR THE PACHES. I HOPE THIS HELPS
I have used the patch for about 5 years. I use tegaderm over mine. It doesn't come off when I sweat which is a lot. It stays in the shower and it does not release the meds to early. Several companies make them but I have found the best price online about half what I was paying at a medical supply place. Just go search find the best price and there you go. My dad and I both use them and they are great. Something else that might help is I put my patches on the top of my upper thigh. The skin is not as sensitive, you get more air flow and I think it's the best location i've found. Hope this helps.
I tape my patch then wrap it with an ace bandage cut of a piece of the ace bandage then tape that This patch is going nowhere. try to put plastic saran wrap taped while taking a shower and it wont come off. Good luck all.
Hi, I am a former Registered Nurse and a Mylan Fentanyl patch user for years. I had the same problem with the patch falling off.
Here is how to make it stay on without interfering with the effectiveness of the patch.
I contacted the company they said to clean the area with just plain water, dry it off.
I also found if you hold your hand over the patches for about a minute, it helps to warm them up so the "glue" sticks betters.
If they come loose, or I perspire a lot, I cover them with Tegaderm patches. These are used in the hospital all the time to cover different things to keep them in place, and it works well.
Get a prescription for it, it's expensive. If insurance won't pay, I've been buying them on Ebay.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
Ive heard that u can contact the manufacturer of the patches you use ,and they will send you tegaderm film free of charge. No reason u should pay for it when they sell patches at HIGH prices and say that they Will stay on. Good luck
Ben......may I ask why you were on Fentanyl? I have been getting relief for a chronic condition and cancer for over 8 years now. I also wear 150 mcg in Fentanyl.
The manufacturer does not recommend putting tape over the patches to keep them on. When I had an issue at the beginning I changed brands and they were fine.
I have never had to remove patches for shower or swimming. If they are not sticking then you need to research why, improper application...too much oil or soap on your skin etc.
Removing your patches and saving them is not a good thing to do. You disrupt the amount of medication you are receiving and therefore you will suffer. Why would you?
I was told at the time of my first prescription how strong fentanyl was. Like any medication there are going to be withdrawel issues. It only makes sense it would take a while to stop taking it. It takes a while to get to a high dose. You gradually increase therefore gradually decrease.
We are all different, our tolerance to the drug is different. None of us will react the same. Anyone who uses Fentanyl needs to have constant care from a Dr and take his advice seriously as well as the manufacturers.
The thing I learned to do and I have been on patches for 5 years is to get a clean wash cloth put it under hot tap water as hot as you can stand it scrub the area with the wash cloth as hard as possible for 10 to 15 seconds a couple times. Let it dry and do not touch it then put the patch on right away and press it down hard and hold it for 30 seconds. After doing that I have only lost 2 in 5 years. It's your body oils that cause it to release don't us soap or it won't work.
I can't speak for no one but myself. I broke my back in 5 places. Backed over by a truck. This was in 2001. The last prescription of pills i had filled was 3 80 oxycontins 4 30 roxis and 120 somas and 120 klonopin. And others picked up here and there. But that was my legal monthly prescription. I asked to go on patch i was sick of staying high and not having any life. 150 mcg patches changed my life. I have a life again no pills at all and swapped over immediately no weaning off. After a couple weeks of adjustment to not taking pills. My life is great 100 percent more active. A family life again. I thank God for the patch. If everyone else hates them im one that dont. 4 years now. Alcohol area put on patch and cover with the 3m brand clear patch cover. Zero problems. I sweat shower swim everything. Very very few problems. No lotions before. Good luck.
...because **and not sure that you've ever used one of these patches or not id say no after reading your comment lmao but....**once you put it on the adhesive structure of the patch is compromised meaning it loses its ability to stick at all after that amongst MANY other reasons that you do not ever do as you suggested...so that isn't an option or people would have been doing it a long time ago. lmao duh
