CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO KEEP THE PATCH FROM COMING OFF AFTER SECOND DAY ? I SHOWER A COUPLE TIMES A DAY AND ON THE SECOND DAY THE PATCH WON'T STAY ON.THEN YOU USE MORE THAN WHAT IS PERSCRIBED AND YOU RUN OUT OF PATCHES AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T PAY FOR ANY MORE THAN PERSCRIBED, THEN COMES WITHDRAWAL?

sorry to hear your problem with that patch, however it is very common. I put clear packing tape over my patch as soon as I place it on.It also prevents water or any soap or lotion from getting into the patch cause certain chemicals can react to the patch. I am happy to say after being on it for 5 years, due to an awful accident I asked my doctor to start taking me off of it, its not easy by no means, I am now down to 25mgs from 100mg. I do suffer with pain but its something I am willing to try to do.I take 1 day at a time. good luck to you.

before getting into shower..apply saran wrap or plastic bag over the patch and hold with rubber band...i've used this method with staples or stitches i've had..works great :)

Get either Bandaid brand or Nexcare brand water proof bandages, just compare the size of your patch to the bandage.....we use the clear nexcare bandages, and they work GREAT, clean the area with rubbing alcohol first to remove skin oil. Good Luck

I have just read your posts and I hope these will help. I'm going through withdrawl now since my doctors told me when one comes off to put more on. Now I'm early like 4 days grrr. I'm seeing family doctor and I feel really bad. This is second time in second month since this has happened. He will most Likely write me a prescription to do me over till my refil date. But I'm worried about being red flagged :c. And if that happens I'm so screwed if anything happens. I'm gonna ask doctor for the tekaderm ( spelled wrong I know) patches and cover the fentenyl with them. I feel so bad though. I really hope they don't think bad of me

There is a clear adhesive patch that can safely go over the fentanyl patch, as it is breathable...it is the ONLY way I can keep the patch on as I have very oily skin. I get mine at Walgreens and they actually give me three at a time for FREE! since I have to do aquatic physical therapy 5 days per week I also use the super sticky waterproof tape from Walgreens to tape AROUND the adhesive patch. Don't ever use tape over the patch itself..it is very dangerous as your body can absorb the medication at a higher dosage rate if covered inappropriately, so only cover with an approved adhesive patch specific for use with the fentanyl patch. Without using these I couldn't even keep the patch sticking for much over 8-10 hours, so I'm pretty certain it would work well for you too. The name of it is BIOCLUSIVE TRANSPARENT DRESSING. Good luck, I hope you have a Walgreens near and can get them for free as well! If for any reason you experience any effects that concern you that covering it with this may be causing you personally to absorb too much, just fold it in half and cut a square hole about 3/4 the size of your patch and place it over that way, as you would still get the good hold but wouldn't be covering your patch entirely.

I don't know what dose you are on but if its causing repertory depression you need to go with a smaller dose or another drug

I have been using the duragesic patch for about 4 years. I put it on and then use a Johnson and Johnson cloth tape over it. I can go swimming or shower without losing the patch. The tape is a 1 cloth tape.

I hope this helps.

I'm all new to keeping patches on too! I was prescribed Mylan patches. I've had 3 come off in just one weekend! UGH! Desperate times call for desperate measures so after reading all these posts this is what I've done and seems to be working, even with swimming and showering.
Clean the area well with warm water (I put my patch to the left or right of my belly button). Let it air dry well or give it a shot with the cool setting on a hair dryer for about a minute. Apply the patch. Curad waterproof tape works very well for me (and I sweat a lot, have oily skin and it's 95 and VERY humid where I live) Apply the tape on all 4 sides of the pain patch. Then I applied a piece of Tegraderm and taped the edges of that down on all 4 sides with Curad WP tape. Lastly cut a piece of Glad FREEZER bag (not regualr food bag plastic) to overlap the other layers and tape on all 4 sides. Press down as hard as you for a minute (if you use a hair dryer, use the low setting for a minute....it helps make the adhesive, on everything, stick a lot better and press hard on it again. Do your best to keep everything flat and not wrinkle or roll up as you put it on. I applied this yesterday morning, have showered 3 times (using hot water and taking my good old time!) and spent 6 hours swimming in the pool. It hasn't budged or bunched up at all since I put it on Saturday morning and the patch and layers are bone dry~no water has gotten near the pain patch! (I am calling Mylan for some of those special patch covers but until they arrive this will work) I sure hope this helps someone~it's frustrating when you only have so many patches and they won't stay on! Have a good evening! Cath

I read a post where it said to put the patch on your arm-(put arm down with palm out, and put patch above the bend in elbow and below the shoulder)On opposite side where you would receive a shot. Use brown sticky sports wrap around it to keep it on. Before you take a shower split a large freezer bag and tape it over both. I would even go so far as to start the whole process by first using tegaderm before I put on sports wrap.

I cant speak for the majority. I had a double mastectomy due to breast Cancer. Im actually weaning off them now.. started with 12mc, and am now only uncovering half of the patch to make it 6mc. -- YOU CANT cut the patch...

Some of these posts and stories are just crazy... seriously.

I have been on the patch and I have found a great solution! Before you put on a patch, take a roll on anti-persp. deodorant and apply where you will put the patch. After the deo. dries put patch on. Remember to hold it down for at least one minute or more!
