I am in tears, I have degenerative disc disease, a broken ankle that the ankle replacement has failed and am in horrible pain. The only relief I had gotten was with either norco 10/325 or percocet 10/325. Now with these new regulations that threatens doctors if they prescribe too much. What do we do now my dr is afraid to give me any refills because the regulation states the pharmacy has to report to what is called MAPS in Michigan. They state no refills and a 30 day supply is all my Dr can give. I don't know what the FDA expects the patients who have chronic pain expects us to do. I don't know if every state has MAPS but it is very threatening to DRs who are writing legitamit scripts. They can lose their licenses and pay hefty fines if the FDA feels they are writing too many scripts for opiates. The FDA is also telling the drug makers they need to make more long lasting opiates so there will be no chance of abuse. You know those druggies who are currently abusing these drugs will find a way to feel high off these long lasting pain meds. I have been on the long lasting oxycontin and it did NOTHING for my pain, just made me sick. I have also been on Fentynal which made me feel terrible, like I had the flu with the shakes and sweats. I don't know what those of us are going to do for pain, I have 30 days left and then nothing. My Dr is afraid to give me any refills and I can't blame him I blame the FDA for getting involved in my medical treatment because of the druggies and those who sell their pills making it hard on all of us. Does anyone have and suggestions?
@Rammsteinfan,
With big pharma acting the way they have, it's easy to see how pain patients are being left to fend for themselves in the midst of all their rules and regulations restricting proper medical treatment.
But as far as suggestions are concerned, there really aren't too many options as a chronic pain patient outside of playing Russian roulette with doctors/pharmacies/insurance companies or opting for alternative/natural/holistic therapies.
Given the circumstances, it seems to me that everyone complaining about the FDA and big pharma in general, should really give mother nature a chance with things like Medical Marijuana (both THC and CBD concentrates), including raw juice from the hemp plant along with other fresh fruits and vegetables juiced daily. I'm not saying this is the answer, but I've witnessed many accounts of pain patients being able to significantly reduce their meds by implementing lifestyle changes similar to this.
Hey David thanks for the post. I am s*** out of luck. The neurologist I was referred to by my PCP all of a sudden at my appointment tells me he can no longer see "pain" patients including me. WTF I now am without pain meds and am in severe pain. The pain docs in Michigan are afraid to prescribe any thing more than ibuprofen so that leaves me and other chronic pain patients out in the cold. I here it's pretty easy to get a medical marijuana card so that is my next step. Screw the FDA/DEA why are they able to control my medical treatment. I was not taking more than my prescribed amount but was still denied my refill for Norco. We can thank the pill billies for this, thing of it is is that they are probably still getting the meds they sell. Mad as hell
I totally agree with you I've even offered to go up to the hospital and have them watch me take my medicine anything that would work to relieve my pain I would do.Hell on the day and age of videotape why can't we take ourselves taking it and prove it.
